Basically the only place on the peninsula that I will go out to for cocktails (I have a good home bar and also dont mind trekking into the city). Its a big bonus that they have such a great beer and wine list as well so everyone can drink what they like. Their upscale pub food is great. If I remember correctly when they first opened the fish and chips were so wildly popular they eventually took the dish off the menu as a way to encourage people to order something else (it was my first visit though so I asked nicely and they obliged). Ive been here for date night with my husband, girls night out with a friend (and then we went to a movie a few blocks away), a light dinner with a whiskey tasting session, a quick lunch with a friend on their lunch hour, Ive been here for New Years Eve... it works for so many occasions. You must try their scotch eggs, in my opinion they are the best in the bay area and I find others disappointing as no one else seems to be able to keep the yolk slightly runny. The burger is great and they always have an interesting vegetarian option. But my favorite meals here are sharing small plates with whoever is at the table. Charcuterie, Scotch eggs, pickled veggies... perfect.

So right when you walk into the restaurant the setting is gorgeous. The atmosphere is relaxing especially when the candles are lit and the decor is just beautiful. Its a tough choice deciding on what to eat, everything on the menu seems delicious. With a group we usually order different plates and share. Ive tried most of the food but definitely not all. Some of my favorites are the Pot o Pickles (its super cute theyre actually in a pot), Nettle soup, of course the Goat Cheese Fritters (OMG Goodness!), Nettle Crowdie Ravioli, Martins Club, Soul Food Farm Chicken Breast(!), Wild Gulf Shrimp and the Organic Beef Burger. Theres even a few things on the menu I thought I would never try BUT I did and I enjoyed them, such as the House Made Black Pudding and Herb Crusted Marrow Bones. Make sure you stay and make room for dessert. All are A-MAZING but my favorite is the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Needless to say but the wait staff is pretty on top of things and really knowledgeable. One major plus in my book is keeping my water glass full, I know it sounds crazy to some but its important to me and also shows the waiters are paying attention to their tables. Next Im trying the Fish & Chips!

I recently stopped by Martins West with my coworkers for drinks and small plates, and I loved it. Conveniently located on Main St, its easily accessible from the Caltrain station and has a great ambiance – exposed brick, lots of options for different types of seating, and cozy without feeling like you were right on top of anyone. The drinks, food, and service were all excellent. I ordered a rye Manhattan up, and it was made perfectly. Our charcuterie board was delicious, and the option to pick our choices of meats allowed us to order some unique things, like rustic pork pate, wild boar salami, and antelope salami. We also ordered the broccoli cheddar croquettes (amazing) and the grilled octopus (super tender and surprisingly complex with the ham hock and runner beans). I wouldnt hesitate to come here again. Highly recommended if youre looking for a fun date spot in downtown Redwood City or a place to bring a group!

This gastropub was genuinely made it easier to move to Redwood City and I suspect that now that Im in the neighborhood, itll be one of my favorite pubs in the Bay Area and one of those places that I love introducing to both friends and coworkers. The atmosphere is a little European - I love the rustic decor - with the noise level low enough that lively conversation is unimpeded. The food is ok, a little expensive and served in pretty small dishes. If youre after huge, hearty meals youll be disappointed. The consensus at the table I was at was to avoid the fish and chips. However, I found all the other dishes to be eclectic, unusual and tasty. The real strength of the pub is in the large beer selection (mostly bottled rather than on tap) and the exceedingly well made cocktails they have.

I came here for their beer week event and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely was drawn in initially since they had such good taste to select Dogfish Head as their beer of choice for the week, and I really fell in love with the ambiance of the restaurant from there. The two food dishes we got (lamb meatballs and pork belly) were great dishes, but definitely very small in portion size. If you are price sensitive, this is absolutely not the place for you. However, for a romantic night out or an intimate night out with friends, I think this is a great location. The decor is beautiful and the food is all locally sourced. They have a great mission, and I definitely am a fan!

Probably the best gastro-pub in the peninsula. I love the sliding ladder they use behind the bar to reach the bottles on the high shelves. The cocktails are well-crafted and the food is delicious. The only negative thing is that some of the people working here are a little moody. Theres one hostess who never seems to smile, and a few of the waiters act like youre inconveniencing them if you want to order something. I dont really mind it...its something I can easily ignore and I still always have a good time here, but its something they could improve on for sure. I expect other customers would be bothered by it.

I really enjoy this location. Its in an interesting part of town, one that I dont visit too often. If you visit here, make sure to try the Moscow Mule. Its delicious, and doesnt taste like it has much alcohol in it. But a few will really set you back. This is a great spot for a large group. When was there last time, our group had nearly 20 people, and it worked out. Beware, though, they served some form of haggis here. Not for the faint of stomach, and certainly not for me. The bar seemed to have a good deal of personality, one that was nice and comfortable, while still being a bit dressier than nearby bars.

Worst customer experience weve had in a while. Service was slow and waiter needed to be reminded of items ordered. "Heirloom" tomato salad was a mix of one heirloom tomato and one unripe, globe tomato cut into wedges. Sea bass entree was too small (2 ounces) and waiter insisted it was six ounces before admitting they ran out of fish. Management handled the situation poorly. Duck was so chewy, it was extremely difficult to cut with a knife. The only saving grace is the cocktail menu. If you go here, youll need one to tolerate the horrible service.

I Went into Martins West Gastropub for a couple of cocktails with some friends the other night. We had the Moscow Mule, Penicillin and a Raise the Roof. All the drinks were made perfectly. We decided to get a couple of appetizers with our drinks and tried the charcuterie and grilled octopus. Both dishes were the perfect size for our group of 3 and was delicious! Will definitely be coming back soon.

Awesome gastro pub in downtown Redwood City. I had the lamb burger which was excellent, and also the scotch eggs. I like the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. It is definitely more of a "restaurant" feel, than bar/pub like atmosphere. Its hard to find a good Gastro-Pub outside of San Francisco, but this is one of the better ones on the peninsula.
