Solid pub-style food offering, nothing amazing but nothing bad. Deviled duck eggs - 3 stars. Slightly larger than normal eggs deviled with duck chicharrones, piparras and micro celery. I didnt find these to be really special in any way. In particular, Im not the biggest fan of celery so I could have lived without that. Fried chicken sandwich - 3 stars. A few pieces of fried chicken stacked tall with slaw, red onion, basil, and pickled watermelon rind. I definitely didnt taste the basil, which is a bummer. The chicken was lightly breaded, tender, and a mix of white and dark meat. The slaw had a certain unique tang to it, perhaps more sweetness than Im used to. I thought the sandwich was too bready and the fries were way over salted, to the point of permanent mouth pucker post-meal. Overall, my meal here was fine. I wouldnt rush back but I wouldnt protest either.

The Squirrel fills a niche in the Rockridge restaurant scene as a basic, beer-centric sports bar. Beer offerings are very strong, while food continues to improve since opening. The Fried Chicken Sando is certainly the most consistent item on the menu, while the Fish and Chips leave something to be desired. There is no doubt the Squirrel had large shoes to fill as Barclays was revered by all Rockridge residents and visitors alike. In time, the Squirrel has the potential to become "the" neighborhood water hole.

This is a wonderful neighborhood spot. They have a large beer selection, good wine and cocktails. They are kid friendly which makes sense in a place like Rockridge. I personally like pulling up a bar stool and catching up with my bestie who works nearby. The staff is fun, sweet and attentive. Im especially fond of Caroline, Andrew, Mike and Taylor. Good for comfort food and a laugh.

The beer selection was excellent, but the food was not as good as I was expecting given its price. Jupiter has a much better beet salad. It was also very loud, which made conversation difficult. Its where Barclays used to be.

Solid laid back bar thats good for a burger or a breakfast burrito for lunch. Really enjoy the outdoor seating and it there never really seems to be a wait. Ill definitely hit this place up to catch a game with friends.
