Ill be honest I had a few preconceived notions coming in here. Pleasanton has not done a real great job with food lately and the former restaurant on this site was horrendous. I am happy to say this place exceeded my expectations in almost every way. The server was super attentive and knowledgeable about the food and processes, and the ingredients were top quality. Some of the execution was off but nothing was less than excellent. We stated with the crispy croquettes which were perfect. And the sauces served with them were and excellent blend of flavored. I ordered the "old fashioned Korean" which is more akin to a Manhattan, but was a really interesting take on Korean flavors in a four roses bourbon drink. The entree was a little underwhelming based on the ingredients. The hen of the woods mushrooms were not prepared correctly, which made the entire dish disappointing but not terrible. I cannot get past the $17 child plate. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS. The server was a huge asset to our meal...super sweet. Im still not sure it was 4 star experience though. Ill be back to get a better read on the chef and owner.

Gan is a new rastraunt in downtown Pleasanton on Main Street. A simple but nicely decorated cozy place where one can enjoy an elegant dinner. To start I had a dry gin martini - lt was dry and chilled well. AMUSE, an appetizer was something I never tasted before - acorn squash was alive within a very thin crisp skin. Then Ginger and Doenjang Cured Skip Jack was served on a nice greenish dish with wonderful decoration. It was truly one of the kind taste - Doenjang is a yellow bean paste from Korea with thousands of years of history. It combined with ginger created an flavor of the first class. Desert, Hot Bing Su surprised me: Bing means cold - but it was Hot dish; Red Bean Cake on a sweet milk anglise with fruits. Beautiful and sweet finish. It was a wonderful experience, I like to share with those who appreciate beauty and taste.

They are still doing their soft opening, which is pretty impressive for the quality of service, ambience and especially the food. The food was outstanding - siri will Seasons, very well prepared for texture, nice flavor profiles. It was an artistic experience I loved the whole experience. I recommend it to anyone who likes amazing food and a great dinner experience

Creative, flavorful menu! Ive enjoyed both the dinner and brunch menu and loved both. My absolute favorites were the pork belly hash, Korean chicken and waffles, and the wedding cheek. Oh and I cant forget the divine dessert menu and the solid coffee. I wish they were located closer to me in Oakland but it is definitely a treat to visit Gan.

A true gem in Pleasanton -- absolutely, hands-down the most delicious and unique dishes, combined with inventive drinks and great service. Its a high-end restaurant in our low-key city with reasonable prices for the quality and presentation. Every meal we have there is a great experience. Very highly recommend!!

Excellent fusion food. Would recommend the smoked salmon fried rice for brunch if you go! And their bloody Mary has a kick from Korean red pepper which is a unique touch.
