.Good experiences. Once, when working next door at Pajama Studios, I broke off for drinks (excellent studios you musos out there - killer analog recording console) the other 2 times were for dinner. . Like much in Oakland, this establishment is expensive. Folks that say, "oh, but not by comparison to San Francisco" - fair enough, if you are accustomed to over-paying in SF, fine, then praps this isnt expensive. At least reviews indicate by number of "dollar sign icons" that this place is pricey: the last 2 days in a row I used a competitor to Google Reviews (wonder who!) to select (in Oakland) "single dollar sign icon restaurants...." Be seated to read: for 2 cheeseburgers on a Thursday THIRTY 2 BUCKS. For cheap Pho in Chinatown - please be seated - again, THIRTY-TWO BUCKS. I tell a lie; $31.59... The Chop Bar is cheaper than the above and FAR better cooking. My lamb burger - not always an easy medium or med. rare to nail, was spot on. Delicious Bloody Marys and excellent side dishes. Very professional wait staff EXCEPT one busy nice (the joint is small) they forgot we were waiting but didnt get pissy when we reminded them we were. If you got the bread - or if youre from San Francisco where apparently "we pay way more" LOL - then this is a good place, in a cool location of Oakland. NOTE: VERY popular so if desirous of dinner get on the wait list...

Pros: - pork confit (incredibly tender and the polenta was really creamy and slightly sweet) - paella (flavorful and full of seafood and meat) - grilled asparagus (crisp and the poached egg on top sealed the deal) - chocolate chip bread pudding (really rich (not the best Ive ever had though)) - apple crisp (had a ton of streusel and the ice cream on top complemented the flavor nicely) - super quick service - food came out RIDICULOUSLY quickly - friendly staff - high energy restaurant and good for groups - reservations accepted for groups of 6+ people Cons: - it seems like the wait could be REALLY long during peak hours, but Im not certain - not convenient to take public transit here :( Bottom line: I loved this place. ALL of the food was good and my family had a great time. I cant stop raving about Chop Bar and am itching to return with some friends.

This place was cool. The drinks & food were great, maybe just a bit pricey, but I suppose things are kinda trending that way. I had the burger & my wife had the meatloaf which were both delicious. We also had desert which was really good to. They lost points with me on service though. Dont know if it was an off day or what, but when my wife & I got there we were told we could sit anywhere except a 4 top because they like to keep them open for parties of 4. When we explained that we were expecting a third person they relented. They were also out of a lot of things, which I take as a sign of how good things are, but still. Also, the meatloaf my wife got, was a mistake. She ordered something else & was brought that on accident. Well probably giveem another chance to see if those things are just one offs.

My Chops experience was great. I literally had no complaints. I was with a party of 5 and no one had a bad thing to say. We started with two orders of the Tuna Tartar. It is a small appetizer, so you may want your own. The tuna was so bright and fresh and came with avocado and sour cream (I believe). It doesnt come with a vehicle to eat the tartar, so request some toast points. I ordered a special with prawns and scallops and I added a lobster tail. As a table we ordered a few sides. Everything was tasty, but the mashed corn was a pleasant surprise. I wasnt interested in that choice and it was actually my favorite side. The mac n cheese was also a star.

I went to this spot for brunch. Its about a 10 minute walk from Jack London Square. I made reservations and got seated right away (there was a wait for walk-ins). Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I ordered the Chilaquiles. Overall, it was ok, too eggy for me. They mustve used at least 5-6 eggs. The plate was huge so maybe sharing wouldve been a good idea. I dont think I would recommend this spot since nothing blew me away. Price point was great though, coming from the city.

It may not be your first thought for breakfast, but try it out. We were there on a Wednesday morning. The food was a great way to start the day. The Eggs ala Cazuela was full of flavor and the Chile Verde was delicious. And my daughter can attest for the bacon, as she ate the entire side order herself. Dinner is also great and is recommended as well. But I think Chop Bar is a hidden treasure for breakfast.

Wanted to love the burger. But I was just good friends. Added the special cowboy onions and the burger bun was not up for the task. Also, when you throw down money for a burger, I prefer it comes put together, rather than being forced to assemble the thing myself. Assembly can have a huge impact, and so thats what Im paying them to do. Still, seasoned well and yummy.

One of our favorite places. Quintessential Oakland Bloody Marys (with bacon, pickled veggies, and a spicy rim), but all the drinks are great, including specialty & standard cocktails, draft beer selection, and wine list. Weekday breakfast is chill, weekend brunch is fantastic but gets busy. Some communal seating, some semi-outdoor seating. Full service at the bar.

Chop bar is one of the go to brunch places in the east bay and it truly shows in the wait time on the weekend. They have a fantastic brunch menu I recommend the chilaquiles with green sauce and a bloodymarry for those of you who like some spice in your life. If you like good food and dont mind a little wait this may become a new home away from home

This is one of my five favorite restaurants and bars. If you come here as often as I do, the staff makes you feel like youre family. Hands down, the burger is the best deal ... affordable yet extremely tasty with avocado and thick-cut bacon (try it with fiscallini for an extra $2). Oh, and I love, love, love the basil gimlets and lemon drops!

Possibly the best Bloody Mary Ive ever had, and my eggs benedict were perfect and well balanced in flavor. Pleasant outdoor space for eating if you want to get some air. The menu is not huge but every dish I tasted was perfectly delivered. The staff were professional and sociable. Will definitely come here again and bring friends.

The burger is amazing but dont be fooled and make sure you order the Fiscalini cheddar. I have no idea what is different about it other than the flavor is so much more present and blends amazingly with the bacon and beef flavors. Honestly had this both ways and the 2$ extra is nothing to get this to a top 5 bay area burger.

I came here for a business dinner. The service could definitely use work.. Our waitress made it feel as though we were an inconvenience to her (there were only 4 of us). I got the chicken, and it was okay but nothing memorable. The paella looked good so if I were to ever come back, which I wont, thats what I would try.
