Since my bday was on a weekday, bF and I were on the hunt for a nice restaurant close to home. I had heard of The Village Pub and knew that they have 1 Michelin star. Thus, this was the perfect place for the occasion. We made a reservation for 8pm. We arrived at 7:50 and were told that the table is being prepared. However, we were not seated until 8:15, which I thought was uncharacteristic of a restaurant of this level. Typically I prefer to get tasting menus at fancy restaurants so that I can get a overall feel of the chefs cuisine. Unfortunately, The Village Pub does not have a tasting menu. Bf and I had no choice but to do a la carte. Wine List: Massive wine list. They featured a lot of wine from Europe that I had not heard of but the sommelier was more than happy to explain in detail the characteristics of the wine. The sommelier was very knowledable and recommended a great bottle of red from the Rhone region that paired well with both my pork and the bfs steak. Food: Dungeness Crab Flan - big pieces of crab, but otherwise nothing too spectacular. Monterey Abalone - this was the better of the 2 appetizers that we ordered. It was very flavorful. The poached egg was done to perfection. Pork (2 ways) - I really enjoyed this dish. I believe the pork was made into ham, as well as grilled bacon wraped pork filet. The meat was very tender. NY Steak - bF got the NY steak. The portion was just right. I dont prefer the NY cut of meat but bF enjoyed it very much. Chocolate Suffle - always a pleasure. Absolutely delicious. The only complaint being that it was lopsided, likely baked envenly so it fell on one side. Service: Our server was a bit awkward but he was attentive. He checked up on us numerous times to make sure that we were doing well. Overall: Service was great and the food was delicious. The volume of the restaurant is kind of high so its kind of hard to hear your own conversation at your table. The Village Pub is a great place for a special date-night or special occasions. I do want to point out that although the dessert plate arrived with the words "happy birthday" written on it, the dessert was not on-the-house and they did not give us a birthday freebee. Not a big deal, but sometimes its these little things that leave lasting impressions and warrant return customers.

Weve eaten here many times over the years, including at their old upstairs location which was far less pretentious. The food is rooted in classical French cuisine. Overall, they put out great food with acceptable portion sizes. The restaurant is very expensive, however. They have no problem getting 40 dollars for an entrée because of the Woodside factor and limited options in the area. Comparable food for less can be found in downtown Palo Alto, for example. Service is very good. Besides the prices, my other complaints would be that the restaurant is way too dark and as someone else mentioned, they do not offer enough vegetables on most plates. If you live in the area, you are familiar with The Village Pub and probably enjoy it. The people that typically eat here are extremely wealthy and dont mind the prices. Others who are less able to spend 500 on a meal may want to look elsewhere. They have a "pub" menu, but even those prices are very high.

Its called a pub but definitely is not a rowdy place! Amazing wine selection, amazing food, amazing service. Tips: - skip the pub food selection. Those appertizers are decent but will fill you up and make you unable to enjoy the main course. - duck and steaks are a must-try. I havent had such good duck since a long time. - dessert is the real specialty here, in my opinion. - do dress up a little. Jeans are good but no sneakers or flip flops. - do reserve in advance! We got in at 5pm, when the restaurant was empty and got very quick service. By 6:30pm the food was coming out much more slowly as people filled in. Of course, if you plan to have a 3-hr dinner then its no troubles. Happy dining!

Amazingly delicious... if Fruit Loops were fine dining. Being welcomed into the warm and cozy dining room is a nice prelude to the wonderful cuisine you are about to consume. Our servers have always been attentive and very informative. They are able to easily go into details one what is on menu. We started with a small treat from the chef, a cheese pouf. Next our starter of a green salad not on the menu and country pate. I had the pork loin which was twice as much food as I would want to consume in one sitting but couldnt stop myself. The skirt steak was melt in your mouth tender. We finished with some chocolate cake thingy with caramel ice cream and licked the plate clean.

Coming from San Francisco and being accustomed to fine dining, The Village Pub exceeded my expectations on all counts. The upscale classic decor is aesthetically pleasing, with overstuffed chairs and soft lighting throughout. The service is professional and clearly well versed in hospitality, from the hostess, to the servers, to the kitchen staff. The food, while pricey, is perfectly executed and beautifully plated. Glasses were always full, bread was offered on numerous occasions, and finished plates were cleared promptly, all inconspicuously and seamlessly. While they have an extensive cocktail and wine list, wines can be brought in for a $35 corkage fee.

Everything from the moment you walk into the restaurant to the moments after you exit are tailored to perfection. One thing that I especially enjoyed was, interestingly enough, the bread. Both types that I experimented with had some normality, with a touch of something different. This is just one of the things that make this place special. Another was the food, for sure. I ordered the pork loin and enjoyed it immensely. Just like the rest of the meat my table ordered, it was cooked to perfection and surprisingly tender. Overall, I recommend this place, with a warning that it might be hard to find, but one you do find it, it will be an amazing experience.

Dont be fooled... while the name is somewhat coarse, it belies a restaurant that exudes class and poise. The food here is homey but superb, and can stand toe-to-toe with the other great restaurants of they Bay Area. The environment in the restaurant is one of elegance, but does so without feeling overbearingly stuffy. The wait staff is very amiable and makes you feel at home. The restaurant can be somewhat difficult to find as its tucked away down a small road (especially at nighttime), but is certainly well worth the trouble.

Out on the deck on a warm autumn evening, the service was excellent, food options and quality were quite good. On the Zagat mention of "Prohibition-era" cocktails though, Id suggest you pass unless you like your sazerac in a chicklet-ice filled glass. Cocktails aside, its a great place for a delicious lunch or a weeknight out. Lunchtime: Fantastic service, over the top presentation (especially for lunchtime) and delicious food (burger, caesar salad, pizzetta). Cant wait to go back. Upping star rating to 5.

Not sure how I had missed the restaurant since I have lived nearby for 20 years. Real entrance if from the parking lot behind, not facing on Woodside Rd. Excellent service, delicious food. Expensive, but not completely outrageous for a wonderful meal. They also let you mix the pub menu if you are with folks who are less foody and appreciate a quality burger rather than fois gras. Ambiance is romantic while still having good light on your tables. Flavors of all our meals were really special.
