I do not know what other reviewers have to complain about. My wife and I just had dinner there with friends and the food, service and decor were lovely. We ate indoors. The arty Italian style of the main room was tasteful and charming. The staff seemed to be dressed in particular rustic Italian costume to complete the experience. I had a lovely caprese salad which was fresh and tasty. The pene vegetali was full of tomato flavor and full of fresh vegetables. My wife quite enjoyed her ravioli funghi with sage and butter. We shared a glass of a fine Pinot Grigio. The atmosphere in this Saturday night was lively and it is in fact loud, but that is part of the dining experience. All in all, this gem of a restaurant is perfectly on par with the many wonderful Italian restaurants in Northern California that have become so commonplace. Portelli Rossi was no exception, delivering good food, service and atmosphere.

Too noisy, too crowded, and the whole placed smelled of smoke from the kitchen. I kept waiting for a draft from someone entering or leaving to help me get through the dinner. The food was o.k, though not exceptional.Go here if you like meat and traditional fare. Not for vegetarians. They dont give you anything extra; if you order raviolis, thats it, no little extra anything. The wait staff is overly professional and stiff which doesnt lend itself to the small containment of the environment. Id suggest to the owners to stop penny pinching on extras, a more relaxed staff, and more fresh air. Too pricey for what theyre offering.

My wife and I have been here at least 12 times in the past year. Weve come for the lunch buffet and for dinner. Every time we leave we swear this is the best Indian food weve had anywhere, and weve had good Indian food in London, Vancouver, NYC and Melbourne to name a few cities. Its tucked away in downtown Novato along a charming little old town street. The staff is always really nice and prompt. Methi Murg is an amazing dish. Come to think of it, Im getting a craving for Batika right now!

We went for dinner and just had to go again for lunch. The chicken tikka masala is absolutely great, the naan and mint chutney is superb, and their lunch buffet was a treat - nice sampling of Indian food for a good price. The wait staff were helpful and friendly. There is not a lot of space indoors but it was actually nice to sit out on the patio area.

Ive been here twice fore the lunch buffet. There is a decent amount of variety. If youre vegetarian, Im not sure if the buffet will have enough vegetarian options to warrant it... Maybe just order your own dish. The butter chicken here is amazing. Come on an empty stomach to get the best bang for your buck.

Ordered the Chicken Dum Biryani to go (I work down the street) from the online menu said it was $10.50, I show up and they charge me 15.14. No plate, No fork, no napkin. Barley any chicken.. about 3 bite size pieces. I basically paid 15.14 for a bowl of rice.

I had heard how great this restaurant was and was very dissapointed! The shortrib gnocchi lacked shortribs--it was shreded beef. My chicken marsala lacked mushrooms--I recieved 2 slices of mushrooms and 2 leafs of spinach. I will not return nor reccommend.

Ine of the best Indian restaurants Ive ever been to. The curry chicken and butter chicken are both exquisite and the waiters are very friendly. I would definitely be going there often if I lived in Novato

I love this place for their food. Get there early to get a nice lunch experience with fresh rice and naan. Sometimes I get there at the end and the rice is dry, so getting there early is much better.

We went here for the lunch buffet. It was pretty good, but I have been to other Indian buffets with a bit more selection. However, what they had out was good. Id go back with no arm twisting!
