This was my first time at The Alamo and, due to time restraints with my friend, we ended up arriving after 9:00pm last night. We entered through the bar area, in which none of the servers gave us a second glance. We decided it was too loud for a late-dinner so we headed into the restaurant portion. The host booth was empty with the phone ringing constantly, several servers walked by without offering to help for 5-10 minutes. Finally was escorted to a table by a waiter whom took our drink order and wandered away. (We were 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant.) Our waitress showed up 5-10 minutes later asking to take the drink order (again), then disappeared for a good 20-30 minutes before we flagged down a bus boy that took our order, then she showed up a minute after to check on us before disappearing again. Bus boy then returned to refill our drinks, food arrived 10-15 minutes later (delivered by another bus boy), didnt see our waitress again until we flagged down the bus boy to ask about a check. We could have easily walked out without paying since no one was on our side of the building for a good 20 minutes while we were there (between eating and asking about the check). Maybe the bus boys should be promoted to servers, at least they were semi-attentive! We asked about specials for "Taco Tuesday" only to be told that they are for the bar only. I ordered the "Carnitas Guadalajara" (pork) but was given dry, overcooked, torn up, gamy-tasting chicken. I also received a spoonful of rice that was dry and almost rock hard with half a plate of soupy fried beans -- neither were listed on the menu as coming with the entree. (Would have asked our server what came with it or complained but she wasnt around and the rest of the staff seemed too rushed to answer questions or elaborate.) I ate a couple forkfuls and then called it quits. My friend got a grilled quesadilla that was bland but edible. Got home and felt like throwing up the rest of the night, still feeling queasy today. Needless to say: Im never going back! The Alamo (Bar & Grill) should *not* be remembered!

Id rather categorize this place as Mexican-inspired food for unsophisticated-sports-TV-watching people who need something to munch and dont mind lots of lard, not fresh meat, cheese, and oil. And I havent talked about the lousy service yet! My first time here I came to watch a game on TV during my lunch break. The burrito I had was huge, but of really low quality, and loaded with animal fat which didnt even taste good. A couple of years later I had some business at the public library next door, and not having much time to go elsehwere for dinner, I decided to give it another try. "How bad could it be? Ill just order a simple vegetarian dish or maybe fish," I thought. It was early, barely noon, so the place was empty, with only one other party sitting there. There was absolutely NOTHING healthy on the menu, even the rice and beans had lard in them (you know lard, as in fat from dead pigs!). Anyways, I was already there, so I ordered a meatless quesadilla. I figured they should be able to put it together quickly: Just put some cheese inside a tortilla, heat it on the grill/plate, and just add some chopped tomato and avocado slices on top, right? Wrong! It took them over 20 minutes to put this simple plate together! And remember, the place was empty! This is the second or third time I do this: I dont like a place, but I go back thinking that "how bad could it be? Ill just order something simple" and lo and behold, Im disappointed again. I really see no point in going to places like Alamo or Dennys, where the food sucks, the service stinks, but they still charge twice as much as a fast food joint (which has better food and faster service!) You want good Mexican food for cheap? Go to Baja Fresh or Chipotle! Their food is made to order, their ingredients are far, far fresher and better tasting than Alamos, and service is fast and friendly. Not to mention you pay only half...

Im seeing a lot of reviews posted here that in fact, belong to the Agoura Location. The Newbury Park Alamo doesnt deserve the beatdown folks have been giving it. How long have I been going to the Alamo? 15+ years. Many years ago, the service and food fell off into a void of despair, and we stopped going. I had heard from a friend that the Alamo had found its footing again, and tonight, on a rainy, cold evening, I gave them another chance. Man, Im glad I did. I cannot rate them five stars only because we simply picked up food, but I can review the service from the take out counter and the quality of the food. It was fantastic. The Albandigas soup, something the Alamo was really known for years ago, was fantastic. Though I do wish they would give more than two meatballs per serving, it was chocked full of veggies, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. Their nachos? Tops. A damn good size portion (it fed four) and their shredded beef was heavenly. Their quacamole was out of this world. Im super picky about my guacamole, having been spoiled by a friends fresh secret recipe, but this was heavenly. The service? Friendly, funny, and fast. We had our food in seven minutes, and to feed a family of four? Sixteen dollars. I will be more than happy to review this place again once I try it as a sit down restaurant, but lemme tell you, I WILL be back. Theyve earned their place in the lineup of "Whats for dinner" nights when I come home late, or need a quick DELICIOUS meal. Thanks Alamo, youve been missed.

Was at the Agoura Hills location on Mothers Day. My mom is a Mexican food addict. She loves tacos. Adores them. She took one bite of her shredded beef taco and wouldnt finish the rest because she said it tasted bad. The chips and salsa guy comes around with a bowl of guac and asks if we would like it. We figured it was some kind of Mothers Day thing so we said sure. They charged us $9 for something we didnt even order. Heres the icing on the cake: were waiting to order (were a party of 6) and 20 mins passes before my mother asks me to go find the waiter. I walked up and asked the host to send our waiter to our table as he was taking forever. Just as I was saying that, the waiter turns the corner and heard what I said. A minute passes and he comes to take our order. I order #11 and he asks me "with what?" I asked, "With what?" I was confused by his question so I grabbed the menu because I assumed I had missed something. He says, "Yes, with what? Chicken, shredded beef, or cheese? I thought you said you were ready?" I will *NEVER* go back to The Alamo again. If I could give it 0 stars, I would.

Looking at the other reviews, this one seems to be consistent. Arrived after lunch with 14 people and asked if they could accomodate us and they said yes. Took nearly 30 minutes to get drinks and one hour and 15 miuntes to get our food. When the food arrived they only brought 11 dishes so three of our friends never did eat. One of the meals was ice cold. Also, people arriving AFTER us were getting served first and actually leaving before we even got our food. Complained to the manager (young latino) and though he took some money off the bill, we still paid for bad service and a really bad attitude. Acted like it was our fault for bothering them! Will never go back and not recommend to anyone. Would suggest to them to just be honest and say NO if they can not give at least decent service to customers and groups. Coach
