Food is not bad, service is pleasant, but the atmosphere and kitchen staff leave a lot to be desired. On a Friday evening the place was dead. The feel of the restaurant and the rest of the complex is very institutional, like a nice retirement community. There is no sense of place or personality and clunky notes abound. For example, this wine country resort is placed in an commercial officel park. And the restaurant offers outdoor dining, but what is the charm of an outside patio adjoining a parking lot? Yuk. As for the kitchen - as noted by other reviewers - they seem to have no idea how to time courses. On an evening when maybe three tables were dining - and with about 5 chefs in the open kitchen - we still ended up waiting 20 minutes between our first course and the entree. Worse, we saw two of our entrees sit under a heat lamp for about 10 minutes while they prepared the other 2 entrees. This is not rocket science guys. Unfortunately even with all that time they got 2 of the 4 entrees wrong (my daughter got mashed potatoe instead of the vegetables she asked for; my son did not want cheese on his burger). Pretty simple stuff. Our waitress was very pleasant but she would simply disappear for long stretches - out for a smoke? Since there were almost no diners, the 6 or so wait staff had little to do, but we still spent long stretches trying to find someone to ask for another glass of wine or the dessert menu. We had an OK time, but I would not return. Too many other really great restaurants in the area.

Bad service once is toerable. Bad service twice in the same week is not. There is no acceptable reason why a Meritage (Shell) resort restaurant should be incapable of providing good service to its guests. Very disappointing. The in-room dining, however, was great. This goes to show that it is not the kitchen or the people who deliver the food, it is the wait-staff in the restaurant. Recommendation: eat elsewhere or order in. Good luck!

The food is good, especially the strawberry cheesecake, served with a scoop of mint ice cream. The lime butter that comes with the bread is very yummy. I went for dinner by myself which can be a bit awkward but the staff was friendly and made it easier. The prices are high but not surprisingly so given its a resort. The service is fast and simple.

Dont understand the post about a complex resturaunt layout. It is beautiful. The breakfast is fantastic (didnt try the buffet, but Wine country style breakfast and belgian waffle of the menu are the best). The service is great. I did only it breakfast here, so maybe the rating changes at other meals (considering the negative posts). I loved it.

The food is okay. Ive had cheaper and better dead cow at themed franchise steakhouses. I tasted a rib eye and a sirloin. Deserts are much better. The service was really good. Probably the wines make up for the food. But oenology is beyond me.

Amazing food! Great for romantic dinners. You can bring the family but this place is not for young kids who need to be controlled. Its a nice quiet place.
