Salt cooked with food. Okay, so thats a bit dramatic but theres a ton of salt in everything. Does that taste bad? No, it is tasty but its certainly masked by all of the salt (or complimented depending on your perspective). Do I like the food? Yes, in general but I dont make a habit of the place because mostly because Im left tasting salt for hours thereafter. There are certain dishes that I believe are better such as the shrimp plate. Thats very good and the salt works well as shrimp tastes better with salt. The combination chicken plates are just okay in my book. The chicken is moist but again, its chicken and salt albeit slow cooked which does make for great texture. After years and years of eating there, Im winded down my visits. I went today with business colleagues who wanted to try it but again, Im sitting here 2 hours later tasting salt. Salt Food: great place but the honeymoon is over.

How can this be an "authentic Puerto Rican food" place when its completely run by Mexicans? Had the "Bistec Encebollao", too many onions and it was bland, they probably didnt properly marinate it in vinegar. The only "Mofongo" plate they offer is by itself, no meat included. No Mayo-Ketchup, Medalla, Malta, Sorullos, Empanadillas/Pastelillos, Arroz con Gandules, Bacalaitos, Guineos en Escabeche, Alcapurria, Jugo de Acerola, Parcha o Mango anywhere in sight. They have the audacity to call Pasteles "Puerto Rican Tamales", although the process might be similar these are two very different dishes, with very different ingredients and flavor profiles. Very disappointed I drove 3 hours and dealt with Bay area traffic for this. The gringos love it, they wouldnt know any different. Puerto Rican, Mexican, its all the same to them.

AMAZING Puerto Rican food!!!!! I was so excited when my boyfriend and I just so happen to pass by not knowing there was a Mill Valley location... We ordered Bistec encebollado and Pollo a la brasa.... Came with rice, beans, salad and plantain or french fries... Everything tasted so good and the portions were very generous considering we ordered half plates to share! Priced correctly too. I love the family style set up of sharing a table with others. Staff was very nice -- They had on this cool Sol Food gear which they also sell to customers. I couldnt of been happier with the experience over all, just wish I was hungrier so I could have fit in dessert :)

Cant say I hated the food as I didnt even stay long enough to eat. We arrived and it wasnt busy, and there were several seats available outside so we sat down. There was zero signage instructing us to do otherwise plus we had a dog so needed to secure outside seats. Within 30 seconds, the host or whoever came over and rudely told us that we needed to get out of their way so they could wipe the table down and furthermore, we shouldnt have sat down until we had ordered. Word of advice - if you want your customers to actually sit down and eat, try to be a little more welcoming and not bark at them to get up the second they sit down.

Love Sol Food. This is their smaller location located in Mill Valley. This spot is definitely less crowded and has more parking. However the location here is tiny, with only one community table that sits about 8 and a bunch of bar tables. It looks to be more of a delivery hub. As far as the food, this restaurant serves great Puerto Rican food. I really liked the Pollo de Horno and the bistec sandwich is good too (however the meat was a bit overcooked this time). I also want to try the ribs next time. Definitely use their vinegar based hot sauce with their awesome rice.

The food here is so good. Just like the food at the San Rafael branch (i think that one was first). Line here was crazy, mainly because it was smaller than the other branch and there were a lot of hikers coming here after a long hike. Plantains are amazing, drinks are awesome (the sparkling lemonade is very refreshing). And pretty much all the entrees are great, the fried shrimp is super tasty and i love the bistec (one of my favorites). Sort of a trek to get out here from anywhere in the peninsula but worth the journey.

I dont get what the big deal is about this place. When i ate at the original Sol Food in San Rafael many years ago (not in the big green building, before even that), I thought it was great. This local offering here in town just doesnt wow me. All the meat is overcooked and greasy, even on a salad. Maybe thats the style and Im just uninformed, then its my fault. The place is tiny and theres usually nowhere comfortable to sit if you are in a group larger than two. At least they deliver.

There is usually a wait during peak times with good reason. The portions are big, the meal is not boring and most importantly it tastes good. I could do without the line, or wait for seating, but thats what happens when a place is doing it right. They have nice non-alcoholic beverages, I enjoy their mango tea and their limeade. My favorite place to grab a fresh bite in Marin!

Yum yum yum! Sol Food has the exact thing going for Puerto Rican food done right. Just about everything on the menu is tasty. Grab a lemonade (from a glass mason jar!) to wash down the delicious food. Yes, theres high prices, but you get what you pay for. The Mill Valley location is a bit tucked away from the busy hustle of Miller Ave, but its worth the find.

These guys make great food and do a lot of business. I feel like when I pay to have food delivered they should give a realistic time of arrival and complementary utencils/napkins +ketchup (as requested online) Hello sol food- your delivery game reveals your level of appreciation for tipping customers.

Who knew you could find decent Puerto Rican food in Mill Valley? I always get the shrimp mofongo. Its made of mashed plantains and is quite filling! The first time I had it, it was good but the second time was very dry. I would come back if I was in the area but not a spot to go out of your way for.

I love this place because of the food and the hot sauce. This location is far less busy as the other San Raf location with all the same feel and tastes with out the wait. Its Mill Valleys best kept secret all tucked away in that location. Big plus they actually have ample free parking!!

Sol Food is awesome. We make it a point to visit this restaurant almost every time were in Marin. Quality of Food is very high, and the taste is spectacular. Make sure you order Sweet Plaintains. The Mango Iced Tea is awesome, as is the reliably delicious Pollo Sandwich.

From the bistec sandwich to the pollo al horno, sol food has never been a disappointment. I have tried about half of the items on their menu, and I would order all of them again. Just be ready to wait in line for a while, especially if you order fish.

Delicious Authentic Puerto Rican food to die for! I ordered their Caldo de Pollo (Chicken Soup) along with Shrimp w/salad, black beans, and platanos (plantains). Worth every penny! Great service and clean establishment and loved their decor!
