I have been to the Little Tokyo and Rosemead locations and really liked the ramen. Live nearby this one, but have always gone to the main Sawtelle spots so I finally decided to hit this place up. Its a bit further and off the beaten path. Met a friend here on a Saturday night. Parking was a bit tough, drove around for a while before discovering a lot a block away with meters up until 9PM. Waited a few minutes but didnt take too long. This location is much bigger than the other locations and the menu seems more extensive. We ordered Sapporo, some edamame and our ramen with the various toppings. Everything came out pretty fast. The ramen was delicious and the staff was super friendly. The waitress who brought out our beer did a cheer with us and as per most Shin Sen Gumis that I have been to, the staff was always shouting - greeting people and what not. Overall a cool spot to eat and hang out.

Location/Parking They are located in a somewhat easy to access location right off the 5 freeway. Sadly they dont have a dedicated parking lot of their own, but street parking availability isnt too bad. They even have a sign posted to not park in the lot adjacent to the property since it belongs to a different business and apparently the owner is a massive muppet that has the towing company on speed dial. Food Definitely in my top 5 of best ramen places in LA. The quality of the food compared to their sister branch in Little Tokyo is about the same. Wait time Now this is where I docked the 1 star from. You will wait quite a bit. Both from waiting to be seated since the venue isnt that big, to actually waiting for your food. All in all, wait time aside the place is pretty good. Id come back again, just not when Im starving and hangry.

Of course, depending on what ramen you like, you may be a little biased but I love some Shin-Sen-Gumi which has not changed much in this new version on the Westside. Here is $6-8 ramen that is easy-to-eat and fairly light and customizable. You get a checklist of things to choose from like light/medium/heavy broth or the size of the noodles. There are some other tasty treats like the spam musabi that is delicious along with cheap, draft beer (along with a few other drink options). Friendly service is also a big plus. The coolest part about this one is that its inside a cool NY pizza-like decor arena and has some cool sights (and a lot going on around you from the TVs to the open ramen bar area). Parking-wise, there is street parking all-around the restaurant.

Got the lunch special with medium for the options and flavored egg. Noodles 5/5 Broth 4/5 - less flavorful and more oily but not fatty, light Overall ramen experience: 3/5 Other: presentation is lacking, price gouging / menu structure are big turn offs. If you just order their ramen without any additions ($), it looks like a bare naked ramen just scallions noodles and broth. This approach is all wrong. Im a fan of custom made ramens but your main dish at a ramen place should include what the ramen-chef feels would best complement and potential the dish, like the additions that would bring it all together. I feel the do it this way for the price structure and get you on all the additions. Also not a fan of how additions are put on the side (like my egg).

The ramen tastes great and the menu has a lot of variety. You can select options for additional tasty ingredients such as fresh garlic, miso paste, spicy hot oil (and a bunch more). The challenge is that they need to focus more on service - speed of service, attentiveness, and awareness were all just a bit off... Still it could be a result of the fact that at this time (Nov 2016) theyre advertising "help wanted". Id recommend this place for sure, the food is well worth it, and as they continue to develop their service quality at this location, Im sure theyll get better.

I was expecting a generic ramen place, but Shin-sen-gumi exceeded my expectations! Its large, clean, trendy, and, most importantly, the food is delicious. To top it all off, everything was super reasonably price, AND they were even playing good music! Its a pretty laid back and loud (in a good way) location. My favorites: the ramen (of course), gyoza, and chashu musubi. I also tried the tuna poke. It was not bad, but it definitely was the least impressive of my selections -- a little flavorless. Overall though, lets just say I plan on coming back here many times.

Where sould I begin. We walked in and got seated did not get an order sheet or our drink order taken until we sat there for ten minutes. We order and it takes forever to get the food plus our toppings took a while to get to the table. I asked for lemon wedges and one of the severs answers "WHAT" to me insted of "yes what i get for you" or "is there anything else i can get for you " . Then doesnt let us know their system is down and we need to go get cash . Overall would not come back or be recommending this place to anyone but will let them know not to come.

You can tell when perfection is being strived for, and it is evident at Shin-Sen Gumi. The staff is extremely polite, restaurant meticulously clean in every corner, prices amazing (cheaper than similar restaurants in Orange County/Inland Empire) and food top notch. I had a yellowtail sashimi appetizer, a half order of Ramen, a large Sapporo and two scoops of green tea ice cream for a check of barely $20! In short, if youre sitting on Santa Monica just west of the 405, turn left and have a quality meal, instead.

Theres really not much to say here People except for Bomb, BOMB, BOMBAYNESS Full of "Everything Yummy for your Tummy!" Those whove had the opportunity of eating at another Shin-Sen-Gumi Spot know exactly "What" Im raving about. For those that still have yet to try, "What" Ya Waiting For...??! Simply put, if youre into Asian Dishes which in this case Ramen being The Focal Point then this Spot Wont Disappoint.. It hasnt with me & I Hope it goes the same way for Yall Too!! Happy Eating!

Wonderful experience! Impeccable service, amazing, light food, perfect if you drive to LA from Arizona and cannot work out for a couple of days. Very impressed with a Caucasian tall young man who spoke fluent Japanese. He may have been the manager. The servers are genuinely nice and the atmosphere is very pleasant. It is apparent that the owner treats his staff well as they seem well adjusted and happy. The price is unbeatable also. I would eat there daily if I could. MUST TRY,

Most importantly, the ramen is fantastic and delicious. Some ramen recipes try to be over-complicated and the tastes end up being muddied by eachother making a salty and heavy-handed tasting soup. This stuff has the essence of ramen; fast, fresh, easy, and modular. The service is wonderful and the staff are all very kind and helpful if you walk in looking clueless (like we did) and help you understand the ordering practice. My favorite ramen Ive had in California on vacation.

I was so happy when they finally made it to the Westside. After a few hiccups, they stayed open and the service is good. Its usually pretty busy but I tend to go later in the night so its not as bad. Decent sized portions of ramen, you can choose how well you like the noodle cooked. The soft boiled egg and spicy Miso is a must. One of the few places open later on the Westside. Its also North of Santa Monica so its a bit away from all the hustle and bustle of little Osaka.
