I got a Cuban sandwich from the back counter and it was salty as hell. It had some good taste but the saltiness overpowered the sandwich. The gentleman that served me was was friendly and polite. I bought a Hulk Juice drink from the juice counter and it was alright. The young lady that served me could have made more effort at being less monotone. I paid for my sandwich and juice bar purchases at the front counter, then sat down and ate my lunch. I noticed that they had some large watermelons $0.45 a pound and I was thinking of getting me one of those. So after eating my food I grabbed a shopping cart and went to go get some avocados and a watermelon. They were stickered Calavo and were large. I picked out three of them and I held up one of them and ask the lady at the front counter and how much they were. She said $3.50 each. At that point I was really bummed because I was going to have to put them back. I check the sticker and it didnt say anything about being organic. I grabbed a soda from the refrigerator and went to go pay, and when I get there she tells me there will be a $0.50 charge to use credit. If I had known that they charge a fee for purchases under $10 I would have paid for everything at once. I forget what I was asking the lady at the front counter but I had trouble understanding half of what she was saying and she couldnt understand what I was saying. I asked her what was the problem and she told me its because theyre music was up too loud. I told her maybe she could turn it down. My initial impression of this place was good and I was excited to get a watermelon and some avocados. Im not sure if I want to come back or not.

Wow, I love this store! VERY clean. The energy feels great in here. So much organic produce. Cant beat the Intelligentsia coffee, and they have a great selection of beer and wine and feels like family in here. I just love the service and warm and fuzzies just being in here. You can sense how happy they are to be at work, you know? Its so well stocked with anything you might need -- like, I can get things like crazy glue and natural turmeric shots (which i LOVE) in the same place - not to mention... Inside the store is a deli counter called Monte 52 that serves the best gourmet sandwiches for only like $7 or $8!

This review is for the Monte 52 restaurant in the back. Love this place. Everything I have had there is fantastic. Best Cuban sandwich in LA. They make it using a sandwich press so the cheese melts and the bread gets golden brown and delicious. Its different then Portos and all their copycats, and is a similar style to the way they make Cubans in NYC. Tip: Any sandwich on their board, they will make as a salad. I recommend the buffalo chicken salad, or the Reuben salad. There are a couple sandwich shops I have been loyal to and I feel a little bad that I have not been back to them since I started going to this place.

What a wonderful store with so many varieties of considerate offerings, from fresh turmeric root (you cant find this at Whole Foods), to authentic Mexican and Middle Eastern products, to fresh family-style specialty dishes - yum, I can taste the pomegranate molasses and Aleppo peppers now! The friendly staff makes this corner of the neighborhood a warm place to visit often!

I usually come here to buy our trash bags, toilet paper, and sometimes milk, newspaper and cookies. But the other day they sold me expired multigrain bread. Most of the stuff here is very pricey. For example, a little box of chocolates that you can find for $4.00 at superior market or at food for less they sell it to you here at $10.00.

Cool little shop at the back of a convenience store. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I shared the cuban on wheat and the chicken salad sandwich. I thought both sandwiches were overly salty. I am planning to go back to give this place another try.

Cute store with a wide selection and moderate to high prices. The woman who helped me and other customers at check out was using the companys land line phone on a personal call the entire time! It was unprofessional and frankly quite rude.

One of the best kept secrets in Highland Park. Gonin, and order anyone of their reasonably priced sandwiches on perfect bread. My husband can even request gluten-free. Just go there. now.

The market itself is pretty normal. Decent selection, but not super cheap. However, the sandwich shop inside, monte 52 is outstanding!! Super delicious sandwiches.
