This is a pretty decent coffee shop that offers all the fixings, including food and some space to get your laptop on. The coffee itself is legit quality and the baristas certainly how to make a mean brew. Their specialty coffees like The Figueroa- which is essentially a 2-shot Vietnamese latte that tastes like an Horchatta- are delicious, if youre looking for a little something sweet. Their pastries, from the Kouign-Amanns to the superb donuts pair perfectly with whatever you get. And their food menu, while not enormous, certainly brings something fresh, high-quality, and delicious to the table. Literally. Their toasts, in particular, from the sweet PB&J with the hazelnut butter to the Avocado Toast with all the fixings are a local favorite. If coffee isnt your thing, try their Matcha or Chai lattes. I hear theyre pretty good, too. Prices are a bit up there if youre used to cheap coffee, but the quality and taste more than makes up for it.

My walking into Civil was something I like call Kismedipity- a gift of accidental happiness (think serendipity). Brand-spankin-new (it was just one week old!) and absolutely inspiring- from the sweet aroma of coffee that awakens the mind to the high orchestral ceilings that elevate the soul. I have yet to try any of their delicacies, but I witnessed the couple at the table beside me literally using their fingers to squeegee their plates before popping them into their mouths. Grotesque, but I couldnt blame them. And finally, the Baristas! They are a group without rival, hilarious and kind. Where did these guys come from!? I guess Ill never know, but Im happy theyre in the neighborhood!

Very disappointing. Lacking in the non dairy area with milk alternatives or pastries. I was hoping for more with the direction the neighborhood is going in. They only have almond milk, its better then nothing but with Californias drought its not the most Sustainable alternative milk. Hopefully they can add a few options for vegans. They do have avocado toast. It may just be me but its weird credit only! What happen to being able to use cash. Not everyone wants to pull out a debt card for ever transaction. Nor do I think everyone has a debit card.

Come here for Tuesday mornings since Plant Food for People are here with their breakfast tacos. So I get some coffee and its always great. I typically get a latte and my wife an Americano. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable. This may become my stop on the way to work. Definitely recommend it.

Chic cafe in Highland park! The cappuccino is nice and thick as we like it, and their coffee donut was a delightfully crumbly. They also have an affordable brunch menu that we hope to check out soon! (While we were there we saw people eating avocado toast with healthy servings of avocado and bacon on top)

Man, this place. How many hipsters, students, and Occidental Professors can you stuff into a coffee shop? A whole lot! They serve up a good cup of coffee here and have a few tasty bites, too. Its on the pricier side and is generally busy. Its centrally located by the Highland Park Metro station.

The quality of the drip coffee alone makes it worth the visit. The sharp attention to detail makes consistent quality in coffee, food and service. The simplicity of design and orderly nature of the service fits the name - Civil Coffee - well. It provides a very clean and refreshing atmosphere.

The Americanos are very good (I havent tried the drip coffee) and the pastries are of high quality. The servers are always pleasantly cordial. The avocado toast was neither good nor bad - I know its been trendy for awhile, but i hope they come up with another option to replace it.

100% hipster, complete with misanthropic MacBook toting customers using as much space as possible to avoid contact with other humans. Ordered a 12 ounce espresso plus milk aka a latte. Also picked up a croissant. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious.

Some serious focus on coffee quality and in a beautiful space. Try the espresso or the latte. Pastry favorites are the kouign-amman and the quiche. They make open faced sandwiches too. They dont take cash so bring your plastic and dont forget to tip

Really enjoyed and service was great. Can be pricey for what you get but high quality ingredients. Wife loves the shitake bacon. Is quite hipster but matches the new stuff in HP. Excited to go back and keep spoiling the wife!

Brewed coffee selection is outstanding and delicious. Bright and airy space. Usually there are two varietals to try. Allow one refill ($) per visit. Extremely noisy, akin sipping coffee next to a construction site.

I just paid $6.00 for a small Latte to go! This is way too expensive! I am really disgusted that they are charging this price in Highland Park. The coffee is too bitter! It has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Great service, fantastic coffee and pastries. Definitely part of the gentrification problem, but Ill take it over a check cashing place. I go here often and recommend it.
