Low rating because of following reasons: Generally, when you go, the guy at desk would be polite enough to welcome. Instead, he said lets see what we can do for you. Its a put off for me. I went with my family. Inside, were given seats adjacent to bar, and we are all non alcoholic. I requested to give a vacant - with no reservation sign - table. The guy without hesitation saying NO, and if I dont take Ive to wait an hour. I see some other guys soon occupying the table - it does not seem they had reservations. Food they brought later on had burnt roti, which I objected. He took away, and immediately came back with a rearrangement of same things! At that time, I felt like to walk out. Overall the experience was a bitter taste in the mouth, and decided never go there again!

The Good: -Excellent Indian food. The butter chicken is not to be missed. -Garlic basil naan. Nuff said. -Extremely attentive service. Although the waiters arent chatty, they are professional and bend over backwards to meet your needs. -Surprisingly intimate atmosphere (given its uninspiring location) -Efficient seating means weve never had to wait more than 15 minutes The Bad: -This food is the "mess-factor" equivalent of a sloppy joe, so beware if this is your first date restaurant. -Bartender sometimes misses the mark (made the mistake of ordering a margarita on the rocks here. Still not sure what I drank.)

I have been to all restaurants in Bay area , I dont understand how this restaurant gets best Food certified. I guess they only Post by themselves. The management was not able to handle rush on Diwali occasion as I went with my colleagues for lunch buffet. No appetizers served, All curries tasted same, due to the rush they got shortage of food and just boiled potato and made palak curry, cauliflower curry. Sweet and Desert was out, replaced with just plane custard mixed in milk that too not properly diluted. Management was not even bothered to apologize. Paying $13.95 is not worth of eating this kind of food.

Amber India has an amazing lunch-time buffet selection. The food is top-notch in terms of quality and freshness, and so the price is quite a bit more expensive. Its a bit too high for my daily lunch budget, but its a nice treat every once in a while. I have a sweet tooth, and I believe they had deserts and lassi as part of the buffet which gave me a great impression. The restaurant interior itself is clean and beautiful - fancy! I used to go to many Indian lunch buffets with my dear Indian coworkers back home, so it is very nostalgic for me to enjoy a piece of gulab jamun with chai after a delicious meal.

Very poor customer service. We had planned for a group dining and they confirmed our appointment on Friday at 7.00 pm. In the evening another representative called us and told its not possible at 7.00 pm. So we decided to cancel it and called them next day and told we will come only if it is 7:00 pm. The guy who attended the call next day morning accepted it and and gave us the 7:00 pm appointment. So went ahead with the plan, but again Thursday evening another representative called and told 7:00 pm not possible. This is ridiculous as we had to change the destination to another at the last minute.

As with everywhere in Mountain View, the food was just okay. Curries were on the heavy side and while decently spiced, none stood out as particularly bright or flavorful. Decor is dated and drab. Service was friendly but forgetful and needed to be reminded repeatedly for basics (more glasses, etc.). I reserved a room for 35 people and paid for the priciest prix fixe menu options available, yet we were forced to share the room with two tables of strangers because the restaurant didnt want to turn away the business. Not the treatment Id give someone spending upwards of $3K on dinner.

Warning: Im not the biggest fan of Indian cuisine and this restaurant didnt help change my taste buds. I came here with a large work group and enjoyed a pre-selected menu. Some of the dishes were tasty including the butter chicken and samosas but others were dry and tasteless like the lamb appetizer and Gulab Jamun. We notified the restaurant in advance that one of our dining companions is vegan (something that should be easily accommodated) but they tried to pass off vegetarian dishes as vegan then finally brought around one dish that conformed to her dietary needs.

I generally go for dinner there... Its been 6 months in the bay area and Amber is by far my favorite place for North-Indian Mughlai cuisine. The Paapdi-chaat uses fewer quantities of yogurt and chutney than most Indian restaurants and the taste of this partially-dry paadi chaat is really good. The Kadhai paneer is also well done. The quantity is generally sufficient for 2 people. Paneer tastes great and the curry is really good. The Vegetarian Biryani has been a hit-miss with a 70% hit ratio... Ambience is great...Service is extremely good... Highly recommended...

Excellent Indian food, for some pretty steep prices relative to other Indian cuisine options nearby. That said, the recipes were really spot on and delicious. The vaunted butter chicken is not to be missed. Aloo gobi was very good, but the scallop dishes didnt seem like the best value. Muted, tasteful decor and solicitous service. We felt very relaxed and unrushed. Seemed like a terrific and accommodating place if youre bringing young children. We had an infant in our party, and the waitstaff graciously offered a high chair for the babys comfort.

We went for a weekend lunch buffet. Had to wait for 10 mins as it was expected to be a bit crowded. The food was awesome, one of the best I have had in south bay. However, two things are responsible for -1 star. First of all, the buffet is a bit expensive and although the food is good, the cost is more than comparable places. Second point is their closing time is 2 30PM but they already stopped refilling food at 2 10PM or so which is not a great thing to do when you have your restaurant full of customers still eating their meal.

I had been searching for a great Indian restaurant. I usually presume that the hole in the wall places have the best food, yet when it came to Indian places, they were OK - average. When someone told me about Amber on Santana Row I thought I would give it a try. I expected it to be pricey and ok, yet I was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent - next best thing to home cooking. The dinner prices were reasonable and definitely worth it. The service was impeccable. Lunch time buffet is the steal however.

Pretty average Indian food, not nearly as flavorful as some of the places I frequent in Chicago. We came here with a large group (about 25 people) and were seated at three tables scattered in a section, which I suppose was the best they could do - but made it hard to talk to everyone without getting up and switching seats. The menu was very meat heavy and although the samosas and naan were good, I would have liked to see more vegetarian friendly options (note: i am not a vegetarian).

Food, interior, service, and everything was great. My friend and I ordered samosas and the butter chicken with rice and garlic naan, and everything tasted amazing. We both got very full from what we shared, so I would say the portions were just enough! The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated, although it may not look as classy and cool outside. The workers were also super attentive and nice, so I felt like I was at a $$$$ restaurant! Ill definitely come back!
