Just had the most pethetic, smallest and blah sushi ever... So sad. After our first round we decided we were done and got sushi from Ralphs. Now satisfied! Seriously I feel so ripped off. There wasnt even enough rice around the roll and what was there was uneven. You could see the seaweed wrap. Tincy wincy pieces. Size of a quarter maybe with a really blah flavor. Looked and tasted very amature. Ive never been unsatisfied with sushi before. Its my favorite food and i only treat myself to now and again so to pay for a high priced meal and get this... I donno. I hate writing bad reviews, especially for family businesses but we were so severely dissapointed....sorry Kotobuki.

If you are looking for traditional sushi made with the finest fish available by the finest JAPANESE sushi chefs, look no further. Chefs Hiro and Tatsu source the highest quality sushi and prepare it with precision. Mix that with some good beer, sake, jokes and friends you got yourself a great time. If you are looking for fusion, deep-fried rolls with non-authentic ingredients, go waste your time (and money) somewhere else. True sushi afficianados will come back regularly. Worth the extra time and coin. Go check it out and experience what I have been doing for over 15 years.....ENJOY

I also have been coming here for many years. I have been to Japan many times, and practically lived on sushi in northern california for 15 years, I consider my self fairly expert. Kotobuki is extremely good. I am in Laguna Hills a few times per year visiting family, and I never leave without eating here at least once. Hiro is a kick, and as a sushi-san, the real deal. If you love sushi, put yourself in his hands, you wont regret it.

Hiro was great. He was not pretentious and made us feel comfortable right away. It was our first time to the place and we were unsure what to order. He took us in what I like to describe as a culinary experience. Hiro showed passion in his work, and that translated to delicious sushi. Every roll was carefully designed to bring together complementing flavors. It was a great experience and I cannot way to go back.

This place is fantastic. The chefs are amazing and so is the food. Now dont expect wild rolls, those arent typical japanese. They serve authentic sushi and other plates closer to what is actual japanese cuisine. Yes it is on the pricier side, but worth it. Ask for the chefs special and you wont be disappointed!

They serve the best Japanese style scallop sushi, which keeps me coming back for more and more. The sushi chec is very creative. He makes wonderful sushi that may not be on the menu. The best way to experience this place is omakase - chefs choice of variety.

This place and Bluefin in Newport Coast are the only sushi restaurants I return to over and over again. They dont engage in gimmicky "super-hero funky theme" sushi concoctions like RA sushi does to distract you from quality cuisine. Hiro Rocks!

This is the original omakase sushi bar experience in Orange County... very traditional. Sit down, you dont have to order anything. Hiro, the owner is both a brilliant sushi chef and hilarious. Always a great dining experience.

This place is poor. Go to Minato Sushi up the street. Blah...this place sucks..I waited an hour for a roll I didnt order! My wife got her food 30 mins before me. Never coming back.
