Having lived with an Indian roommate during college, I learned about good Indian food (since he was also a chef). Although satisfactory, for an $8.99 buffet price I would not return to India Cook House, although that is probably the average price in OC. The selections themselves were fine and varied, but there was no particular "kick." And it seems that each Indian restaurant has a "signature dish" just like other fine restaurants; on dish that is itself the reason you go there. I did not find one dish particularly exciting nor extremely well done. Nonetheless, I was there in the Friday before Labor Day and the placed was packed with both Caucasions and Indians alike--maybe 50 people. If I may suggest, please try Rupee Room in nearby Orange. It is on Tustin Ave just south of Katella. The Murg Makhani is fabulous and I believe the price might still be $7.99 for the all you can eat buffet. The chef came from a now defunct restaurant down the street called Delhi Palace, although they still have a location in Hacienda Heights, I believe. As I settle into my new work place I will venture out to nearby Indian Restaurants to report on them. Hopefully there will be something above India Cook House. Good, but not great.

I came here for a buffet lunch in July, with the optimistic information that it was "under new management" - but will never come back. The totally unprofessional waitstaff was clueless that they were standing in the customers pathway while customers were trying to go to the buffet line; waitstaff speaking in Spanish oblivious of their environment. The plates and cutlery were put in illogical and out of the way locations. Food was not hot, attractive or tasty - I also noticed there was only minimal variety of choices offered on the buffet. The quality of ingredients used in preparation was mediocre. So little pride in the dishes was shown, although I did enjoy the Naan bread that came to the table eventually. Suggestions: (1) train the employees to value their guests, (2) think about the flow of traffic to the buffet line and how to facilitate finding what is needed, (3) provide hot, fresh, delicious, beautiful, contrasting foods (4) put more love, care and attention to detail in the entire operation of the restaurant. India has magnificent, brilliant cuisine - show America how good it actually can be!

My favorite Indian Restaurant in the area [said by a White Guy ;) ] - awesome lunch buffet - all you can eat for less than $10! It opens for lunch at 11AM and closes at 2:30PM so be sure to get there by at least 2PM. Doesnt open for dinner until 5PM. The staff tends to be a little grumpy, but theres minimal interaction during lunch, so no biggy. Most of my experience is during lunch time -- I think I went there, once, for dinner, but so long ago I barely remember the experience. But, have been there for lunch many times and have never been disappointed! If you want some decent Indian food after 2PM, try Natrajs Tandoori in Irvine -- its open from 11AM to 10PM and the food is excellent for a fast food place. [from the India Cook House, get back on the 5 going North, get off on Jamboree and turn right, up Jamboree past Bryan Ave, turn right into "The Market Place". Go past The Lazy Dog Cafe to the central shopping complex. Its right next to the fountains.

If im going to off of the food, this place would get a 5. But being as someone who is also in Customer Service, this place is getting a 3 instead of a 2 and thats because of the food. If you eat there, the service is okay, typical place that doesnt cater well to Indians raised in America, its some sort of biased feeling. Now, Ive ordered for pick up three times from them, EVERY SINGLE TIME when I go to pick up, no one has a clue Ive called in and they start making the food then, problem is Im at work and trying to pick up the food on my break, so now they are wasting my time and my break. They dont care arent very apologetic about it. The lady who answered my call today was rude as hell. When I called the restaurant and complained to the guy who answered, he gave me a discount of 20%. Bad service really takes away from the good food. You guys gotta do better!!

I would give 5 stars if you had a clean bathroom. Food is the best here in socal. My husband loved all the desserts. He always complains I the sweetness of desserts everywhere we eat. But not here. Its too perfect. It should go in the ascending sweetness. 1st you should eat kheer then fruit custard, the carrot halwa, save the gulab jamun for last. My favourite here is the mango flavoured fruit custard and awesome yummy butter chicken. Whoa what a great variety food buffet. Best of all, the food is zero spicey. Perfect for for my 7YO and 22 MO toddler. Value for money. Cheerful servers.!! What more to ask. God bless these guys. This review is coming from an Indian woman in her 30s who has travelled from East to west coast of America and almost entire India. Trust me these guys are great, down to earth.

Been coming here for the last 16 years and being Indian I can say the food is pretty good and well prepared ( no cutting corners). The lunch buffet is also something Id highly suggest but ask for garlic naan when they ask about drinks. However, sometimes the waiters can be rude, especially the older mustached man with a kara in his hand. He gives you attitude, talks back, and ignores you. The manager (whos exceedingly kind) needs to have a chat with him on how to treat customers and explain that just because hes been working there for years does not give him leeway to be rude to customers that are paying for a pleasant lunch or dinner. Thanks!

I have been sampling Indian food in the Orange County area for a while now, and I must say, India Cook House is one of the best. The food is always deliciously prepared, never over-spiced, never under or over cooked. The selection is wide with an array of vegetarian and meat dishes. The naan is truly fresh, desserts are delicious. Service is courteous and swift. The lunch buffet is also worth mentioning with its nice selection and always reliable means of satisfying that craving for Indian food. Now, if they could just turn that music down a little bit...

This is the best Indian food Ive had at a restaurant! My friend, whos Indian and vegetarian, and I used to frequent this restaurant often when she was at UC Irvine. Even she admits the food is great. It turns into a sit-down restaurant in the evening, but I wasnt too impressed with that. Im looking forward to my next visit.

We searched for vegetarian restaurants when we wanted to stop for dinner, and this one came up. It was close to the freeway and still early enough that it wasnt too busy. The food was very good, the waiters were attentive but not obnoxious, and the price was reasonable. I recommend it if you are in the neighborhood!
