The Dowdells
We moved to the area about 7 months ago and was drawn in by the great scent of smoked BBQ that filled the air. Our eexcitement quickly turned to disappointment when we realized the food here was awful! The price was WAY to expensive for the quality and the brisket was served sliced so thin that it was cold before it hit the table. They also cut it in small squares as if they were feeding children. Sides were of very poor quality and the customer interaction did not meet our expectaion at all. I would rather eat at the 7 eleven across the street which is what I did while washing clothes just before typing this up. Far from the best BBQ in town....especially when I watched them load precooked food in the front door after unloading from the back of a minivan. Not too sanitary if you ask me. Sorry but the truth.

I went to this place the other day because the Everett and jones in hayward doesnt have sides like the ones in oakland. So I decided to try this place out because the food looked good on yelp n they also had more variety of sides. I was highly disappointed their meat tasted as if they smoked it with the wrong type of wood n their so called homemade links tasted nothing close to homemade tasted as if they were bought from lucky and smoked. On top of everything else you have to pay for your sides even if you get a dinner plate and the sides are the size of a side of ranch from your local roundtables pizza lol. If you want better tasting bbq down the street is a place called everett n jones and their linqks are really homemade and you get two free sides with and dinner plate or combo plate..

OH MY GOODNESS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BBQ IN THE WHOLE WEST COAST.first time there and the lady filling my order named michelle, had me laughing in just a few minutes of meeting me.she made me feel like Ive known her for awhile.But I just met her 10min prior the food well,I would say in a contest w/Bay area renown restaurant EVETETT@JONES my award goes too,too,too,CARMEN & FAMILY,IVE BEEN PASSING THEM UP FOR AT LEAST 5 years going to work,I asked some work buddies about carmens,told me " if you like Everett and Jones, you will absolutely love Carmen and family" so I decided to try it loved it Michelle you are awesome only met you one time but you were fantastic look forward to doing again in a couple of days

I rate Carmens BBQ no stars because the first time I went there I bought a pork rib sandwiches witch consisted of two pieces of ribs and bread. The ribs were extremely dry and had virtually no meat on the bones. They charged me $11 dollars. The ribs looked and tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for days. I blame myself for not checking my meal before I left, so that part is on me. Subsequently I have never gone back and never will. Im from the south so I know good BBQ when I see and eat it. Thats not Carmens!!!! P.S in order for me to post my review I had to touch at least one star with they truly dont deserve. Thank you.

Carmens....shes been here for a very long time. Love coming here, I stopped in for lunch yesterday and treated my helper who had never been there before. We both had 3 ways and drink. We ate there and as always, enjoyed conversation with Carmens herself. She makes you feel like family. Its like we were at our mother or grandmothers enjoying a meal and nice conversation. The bbq is delicious and has Carmens own distinct recipe and flavor. This is a wonderful family owned and operated business. Thank you for the relaxed comforting lunchtime experience, Carmen and company.

The bbq itself was good, their chicken and sliced beef was delicious but their links wasnt nothing to write home about. I have two complaints, one is the lack of gloves when preparing the food and touching non-food items then touching the food. The phone rang and she answers it and then touch my bread. my second thing is the peach cobbler, its not that good at all. Something is off about how they sweetened it. Maybe they used brown sugar or maple syrup but it was not good.

When the GST Motorsport and Thibert Engineering Concepts teams get together for lunch, Carmen & Family Bar-B-Q is the first choice hands down. Great BBQ meals will leave you full with a tingling tongue. No need for a knife since the meat is super tender. The BBQ sauce is outstanding and adds flavor and moisture to meat, but deciding which signature sauce for your meal is the deilemma. Not to worry, they are all great from mild to hot. Enjoy

Luv Carmen.. She always welcomes me with a warm smile and a big hug. The food is soooo gooood. The link dinner is the hit ya digg.. Get the hot bbq sauce if ya can hang.. Everything on the menu taste so good ya wanna slap yo mamma.. Ive been going to Carmens & Family BBQ since 1994... I guess Im part of the family...LOL.. Ive been coming here since 1984 and everything is still the same uncle D making those all beef links from scratch all the way to carmens homemade sweat potato pie they use real hickory logs and make everything from scratch you dont just get a full plate off mouthwatering bbq you get great people serving it to you carmens and michelle greet you like family you will not be dissapointed

This place is sooooo good its literally finger licking good! We got the family meal which comes with bbq chicken pulled pork and Mac n cheese n bread n omg!!! It smelled sooo good couldnt wait to get home and eat. Was absolute delicious a little pricey but I dont mind paying a little more for something well worth it.

Love this place great owners. Food was so delicious and still good if you had to save it and eat later. The greens are the best. The greatest desert ever is their peach cobbler. If your share with someone else you are better off getting your own. Speaking from personal experience.

Great home style barbecue..... Family friendly staff members..... I just LOVE Carmen..... I live in Concord and my fiance lives here in Hayward..... And everytime Im down here at my fiances house..... We would always come to Carmen for GOOD home style barbecue.....

They charge to much for their meals, which only comes with 1 scoop of potato salad and a slice of bread, cut in half like that makes a difference, really. I was still hungry and had to eat again. I will never eat there again.

This places meat it cooked perfectly but that barbeque sauce they put on everything is very bitter and a sweet after taste. They serve you really small portions of everything. Definetly not recommending this place.

I love this place so much. Its near by my house and the Bar-B-Q is actually very delicious. This restaurant may not look so fancy but they have tasty Bar-B-Q! Everyone should definitely try this one :
