Canon If not for the price, this place is easily a 5 Star Hands down. In all of the restaurants I been to in California, they make the BEST DIM SUM and compared to NYs Chinese Communities (Chinatown, 8th Ave. Flushing). For taste, it beats all except Grand Restaurant which I would say is equal. But service at this restaurant is excellent as I got the younger gentleman waiter and it was on the vacant side on that particular day. They offer quite a unique variety. I mean where do you find Bitter Melon and Pork Rice Roll? On top of that, you get an unequivocal Bay Area view and the walk right outside by the shore is something you wont find anytime soon in New York. For New Yorkers, just imagine a Golden Unicorn or Jing Fong right in the Coney Island and instead of walls, its all windows. I must say Yum Cha in California is certainly a lot more expensive than any of New Yorks Dim Sum restaurant. At this restaurant in particular, 15 Dim Sums came to $130, a hole in the wall in SF is easily $75+ whereas my favorite place in New York, Golden Sand would have came to $30 for the same 15 items. Golden Unicorn, the most expensive in New York would have been around $70. But hey why should I complain? I came here for vacation and dont look forward to Yum Cha daily or weekly for that matter. If I were judging from a Californian standard then yes this is a 5 star!

YES! After searching for nearly 2 years for a dim sum spot in the East Bay (to replace my San Francisco go-to restaurant), I may have just found it. Things that greatly matter when it comes to dim sum (that Hong Kong East has so far satisfied): ***1. Must be fresh! ***2. Flavors should be multi-faceted, crisp, with the sauces well executed and definitely not stale. ***3. The waitresses should not try to push things on me that they think white people should be eating (bread with bread and bread), and they also should resist the urge to try talking me out of ordering some of my favorites (all forms of feet, congee and blood cubes). ***4. Speaking of the congee... The best congee Ive had so far! Flavorful in an understated, nourishing way (it is so hard to find well-balanced congee), slow cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of fresh ginger. Great way to recuperate after a long night doing whatever you do when you are not sleeping! ***5. Attentive service. Additionally, I am always pleasantly surprised by the bill. After going with a large group, yet somehow managing to order too much food, the bill is tiny in comparison to all the incredibly yummy goodness we scarf down! Highly recommend them, though mentally prepare for a line if you go on the weekend...

The hours for yum cha are 11 am - 2:30 pm. Of course, my friends and I were the people who would be the restaurants worst nightmare. We arrived at the place at around 2 pm - half an hour before the restaurant/kitchen closes. You know ... When the restaurants is getting ready to close up to take a break and prepare for the dinner session? Anywhoo, we were able to get in most of our orders except for 2 items. Our order apparently didnt reach the kitchen before it closed. Bummer! The rice rolls dipped in xo sauce was luke warm. I guess the kitchen didnt warm up the dish completely. The salted egg custard bun was not as running as I would like it to be. I enjoyed the baked oysters. The dim sum here was mediocre at best. However, the view was pretty much breathtaking. You can see the view across the bay while enjoying your dim sum. I can see this restaurant as a great venue to hold wedding dinners. There is plenty of parking, restaurant space with an amazing backdrop of the bay for pictures. Ill probably be back because of the view and for the decently priced, mediocre dim sum. And putting up customers ... Like us who cut it close to the closing time.

Delicious. Im pretty picky when it comes to dim sum. Im a regular at Koi Palace. I didnt expect this place to be at that level. Just getting there, I expected it to be expensive because of the location and the view. Well, I was wrong on both accounts. This place is pretty damn good. The location is beautiful and the price is not overly expensive either. The baked bbq buns were a little larger than expected, but delicious; mostly sweet, but as expected. The shrimp in the har gow are large chunks. No ground shrimp like you see in some places. Just cut into large pieces - you can taste the quality. The pan fried chive and shrimp dumpling was a little larger than expected, but good - as expected. The wonton in hot sauce was okay; not great, but this is a Cantonese place, so I wouldnt judge them based on that. The siu mai, bbq pork rice noodle, crab meat dumpling, and pretty much everything else we ate was good. My least favorite dish was the egg tarts. They tasted like a cookie rather than a pastry. Thats the only thing I wouldnt order again.

You would think that having an 80th. birthday celebration with 100 to 120 people attending that the food would be important and the guest being mostly asian that you would want to deliver the goods. Boy I would never eat there again as the food came out and you were lucky to get one piece per person, it wasnt just one dish either, even the soup dished out barely filled the bowls 60% full. The garnish on some dishes was disgusting looking lettuce that looked like it have been saved from two days earlier use and used one more time for us. Sure the place has a view but at what cost for the diner at over $30 per person at each table. No one had to use any container for leftovers as there were no leftovers. Save yourself and drive over the bay bridge and go to a real Chinese restaurant that wants your customers to leave happy and content with a good meal. Drive right by this place. It use to be good now its terrible and expensive and distasteful. GW.

Take a look through these reviews. They generally fall into two categories: a) Great food, great view, five stars! - OR - b) One star because a waiter was Chinese to me. Seriously, this is some of the best authentic Chinese food you can find in America, prepared by Chinese people and served by Chinese people in the Bay Area, a region heavily populated by Chinese people. If you want a Chinese dining experience, come here. In Chinese culture, waiters arent expected to make small talk, sit down at your table, or smile and laugh at everything you say. Theyre not rude; they are just not the mindless sycophants that loud tourists have come to expect from American restaurants. If you want your waiter to act like your friend, just go back to T.G.I. Fridays. If you want what is probably the best Chinese food you have ever tasted with a beautiful view of the Bay, come here.

This place is expensive! for example. sweet and sour pork 20$, other restaurants are under $10. dim sum are expensive too! its average 8.50$ per item, other places 5$ or less. but I still give it 5 stars because this place is near the ocean, you can see the bayarea ocean view plus the Oakland/SF bridge. I like this place where you order dim sum on a piece of paper unlike other restaurants where you have to wait for dim sum to come over to your seating area. if you cant read chinese, you can ask them for a menu with picture of items (this should be the default menu). I recommend "sweet tofu", I get this item everytime I come here.
