When visiting the Bay area, I always insist on only eating Asian food because the Asian food sucks so much in Chicago. Was craving Chinese food and the bestie hopped on that train and suggested soup dumplings- xiaolongbao. We wanted to hit up Shanghai Dumpling but unfortunately a caveat to Chinese restaurants in smaller burbs close early on Sundays- 9 pm and we got carried away at the bar beforehand. Luckily Shanghai Garden was open until 10 on Sundays, so we hit that up with shengjianbao and xlb in mind. Service was surprisingly really good, and we got tofu with crab sauce and spicy rice cakes with our dumplings. Staff was patient and friendly, putting up with our chinglish, which I feel is something you dont usually get in other Chinese establishments-- more fobby places, or at least in Chicago Chinatown. Guess theyre more used to the ABCs here. As they were closing we watched them prepare 8 treasure dessert, and they were having a blast and joking around-- I love seeing staff interacting and enjoying themselves. Huge menu, too many good things to choose from, solid xlb and shengjianbao, everything we had was good, and I was I had something like this closer to where I lived in Chicago. Cleaner bathrooms than you would expect in a Chinese restaurant too. Would definitely recommend!

We just went yesterday with our mom who needs to use a walker. We have been there twice already. The food was good, otherwise, it wont be so buy. However, the attitude of their employees have room to improve. They dont care or appreciate their customers, since they have enough business. If you have a family for friends as a group, every one needs show up at the same time together; otherwise, you just dont get a table. Yesterday, we had group of 6 including my mom with her walker, I finally get a tale, but we still missing 2 people who were parking. The lady, wont give the table; she gave a group just walk in. Two minutes later, my sister and my brother-in-law showed up. I complained, they dont even feel sorry to let a handy cap senior wait for more than 20 minutes. The customers who got the table from us, they "fought" with us for that table, emphasize "we are all here 5 people." Inside restaurant, they do not have legal space for people with wheelchair or walker. We finally have 2 people helped my mom to sit, and I brought here wheelchair to my car. The taste of the food is important, but I believe, we all want to have a pleasant dinner or lunch. Also the space is so crowed, if there is anything happen, it will be hard to exit.

You have deleted my review 3 times on yelp and blocked my account. But Ill keep writing and let others know!!! My husband and I ordered a carry-out on 07/18 including the won-ton soup. (When you order a carry-out, they pack the won-tons and the soup separately.) After arriving home, I put the won-tons in the soup and started feeding our 1-year old baby. Then suddenly I saw a dead bug (about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 wide) in the soup. Its color was very similar to the seaweed in the soup and I didnt notice it at the beginning. I contacted them at once and they said they would give us a replacement and let us pick up. If seeing a bug was not terrible enough, what happened next really pushed me not to enter this restaurant again. They asked me to bring the soup with bug to them to get the replacement, and so I did. When the waitress saw I only brought the soup without the box of won-tons, she turned back to the packed won-tons and soup, and took out the box of won-tons from the plastic bag, saying " Only the soup had a bug? Then I only replace you the soup." Didnt she know that I needed to put the won-tons into the soup first and mix them to eat? Watching her movements, I had to think "What a satire it is!" AND, there was NO SORRY AT ALL!!!

The food is a bit greasy but very tasty. Service is attentive and dishes still comes out pretty quick even when the restaurant is crowded. Ive dined here at least 10+ times and suggest coming with with larger groups so you can try more dishes. There are close quarters and it can get a bit noisy but the food is worth it. Best Dishes/Favorite in order: 1. Pan fried soup dumplings (6 per order) - delicious pork dumplings that are so good you will shove a whole one in your mouth and realize its boiling hot. Be prepared to get two orders of these. 2. Special Fish Gluten with Seafood - love the texture and flavor of the puffy fish gluten balls 3. spicy fried chicken (lots of peppers, love to eat the extra pieces of garlic, potato and lotus roots) 4. Ong Choy with Garlic 5. Pea Leaves with Garlic Good Dishes - Dong Po Pork (roasted pork. beware of the big layer of fat) - Eggplant, chicken, and salted fish clay pot -Xiao Long bao -seaweed fried fish Meh/OK Dishes: -lamb noodle soup -deep fried eggplant -lily bulb with pumpkin

Being the chinese food snob that I am (and especially critical of anything in the dumpling category), I was not too impressed with the xiao long bao and sheng jian bao at Shanghai Garden. HOWEVER, it is still pretty legit. They have tons of dishes you would only find if youre in a truly authentic chinese restaurant. Youll find a lot of mainlanders eating here, so that should give you some indication of its worth. So the xiao long bao and sheng jian bao - good not great. The wrap of the xiao long bao was too thick and flour-y. It should be more translucent and light weight. And the sheng jian bao was way too heavy because of the doughy wrapping. I also got the crab meat tofu, which was a dish I was introduced to when I traveled to Suzhou a few years ago. Of course it was more amazing there, but Shanghai Gardens version wasnt too bad. Next time, I definitely want to try the crab meat meatballs, fish head clay pot, and the squirrel fish.

This is one of my very favorite restaurants. I live about an hour away, but try to eat here whenever Im in the area. The food is authentic, the menu is extensive, and with a very wide variety of tastes. One of my favorites is Volcano Fish, which is an inexpensive fish cooked in a hot, spice broth. Service is friendly, but often a bit distant. The vast majority of clientele appear to be ethnic Chinese, which I find to often a good indicator of the quality and authenticity of the food. Seating is pretty close quarters, and at long tables that are close together. When theyre busy (and they usually are), a small party is likely to be sharing a large table with another party. I find that very pleasant experience. Parking is easy in the large lot thats part of the strip mall that the restaurant is in. Menu prices are quite moderate.

This place is super busy on the weekends, even with reservation prepare to wait. And the AC inside did not work well so it was muggy with a lot of people. And since there are so many people, it was so loud that you have to shout to be heard, plus the service was bad (but thats nothing new for Chinese restaurants). Food here is mediocre Chinese food, with some special dishes like fish gluten and Chef Zhous tofu. We tried the 10-people set menu, and it included a lot of meat/fish/protein, but not too much vegetables. I would order individual dishes instead. Advice: its not worth the wait or the crowd. So either come early on a weekday, or skip it all together.
