Expect to pay about forty to fifty bucks each time you dine at Honda Ya Izakaya. I wouldnt come here on a weekly basis, but its a great place to dine once in awhile with your friends. Its a fun, casual restaurant to dine at due to the variety of skewers and the vast menu. It can be a little overwhelming, so ask you servers for some recommendations. The restaurant is huge, so theres usually no wait! Must get: Fresh Oysters, Spicy Poki Tuna hand roll, and Sweet Amaebi Shrimp Sushi (Sweet Shrimp Sushi gives you the option of Miso Soup or Deep Fried Shrimp head) You have two options for seating: Tatami and wooden stools. The tatami options can be uncomfortable because youre sitting on the floor without your shoes, but the wooden stools have no back support...choose your poison! The best part of the menu is the dessert; I love their sesame ice cream...creamy and just the perfect amount of sweetness! Overall, you have a lot of options here at Honda-ya and for the most part, you cant go wrong. Just dont get the oyster shooters, unless you like it heavy with sake! Cheers!!!

Best items: takoyaki, fried chicken, yaki-udon, yaki-tori (fatty chicken heart, asparagus bacon, meatball), sesame ice cream. The oyster/urchin(uni) shooters are a once in a lifetime kind of thing. A sake, ponzu cocktail with quail egg and oyster/uni... Slimy and Ive ran out of lifetimes to desire another (unless I was drunk on a dare). Choose the floor seating if you have a choice, a bit of a change and nicer than the typical chair dealie. Kirin beer came in an ice cold glass mug, yum. Came on a Tuesday night with two others; handful of patrons, no wait. Nice servers. Its not a small place but I wouldnt try to bring 30 people for a birthday since its not that type of restaurant (referring to another review).

First, I had my birthday celebration there and I made reservations for 30 people. When I got there they only had a setting for 15 people. Instead of grouping us together they sat us all seperatly. The food was good. When it came time for the bill they accused one of our tables of shorting the bill by $20. Seeing how that table consisted of my parents and aunts I don't see them shorting the bill. In fact they left an extra $5 instead of waiting for the change. Long story short food was great but employees are shady. Make sure you are charged corretly and hand the cashier your bill with money instead of giving it to the waiter.

Amazing place kick back place , to hang out and joy some delicious food and drinks of course. Yes its pricey, yes the location can be better . But Im sure better location higher price . So Id rather have them there . Parking is on site or across their lot . Been coming here for some time now, and each time the service great . Regarding the food, I come here for mostly their yakitori since most Japanese restaurants do not sell them. Its best to order like maybe a bento box or some sort, along with your yakitoris . If your goal is to get full, otherwise you will need a good handful of them delicious yakitoris .

Great food but the wait time on the bbq can be quite long. Dont come very hungry because youll have to wait a while for your food. They also wont just sit you down even if theres a bunch of tables open. I guess they are trying to minimize your wait time after you place your order or maybe all wait staff are not in yet.

First went to the location in Little Tokyo. This location is a great little spot that is totally authentic and so interesting. You could go here a dozen times and a whole new set of items everytime. Me and my girlfriend like to get the Nasu Miso and split a few cut rolls. Cool date spot too!

Its a great izakaya place but its kinda expensive. Tried the takoyaki, ramen, and set dinner there and they all taste really good. You can choose to sit on the floor like the traditional Japanese way. This place makes you feel like you are in Japan and its good to have dinner with friends.

This place had a nice atmosphere and I enjoyed the effort they put into the restaurant decorations inside to make you forget about the outside world. They have a sitting room available for large groups that wish to sit and eat on the floor in a traditional Manor.

Amazing place to get together after work. Has the traditional sit down area or a regular table with amazing skewers. Very busy on weekends but not bad during the weekday! Come here 2 to 3 times per month and Love it. Chicken salad is the bomb!

Ive been going since it changed from Edoko to Honda-Ya. Basically from day 1. Quality has gone way down, but I still go there because the staff are friendly. Everyone except for Adrian. Hes kind of a dick.

Overpriced and low quantity. Low quality as well. Only thing is, the place has a traditional style seating area of wood floors, low tables, so you can eat like a japanese person. Gimick. Food sucks.

All my favorite hard to find Japanese dishes in one restaurant. I was surprised to find that they have ochazuke, yaki-onigiri, chawanmushi, and tororo. The pricing is fair, but not a steal.

the atmosphere is really the best thing about this place. However I felt the quality of the food didnt meet up with the price and i feel other place are more competitive in this area.

Drove by for years before stopping for dinner. So so service; so so food, but business was good even on a weekday evening. Dont know what makes this place so popular.

This last time I went was not as good as before. I dont know if they changed chefs or what, but the food was not what it was. Maybe it was just a bad day.

I love this place. The menu is endless, the food is top notch and the staff is the absolute best around. My favorite restaurant in Southern California.
