I recently visited the restaurant with my husband and some people from his office. The restaurant was half full and service was terrible. It took an hour (and my party waving down the waitress) for someone to finally take our order. Over half of our party described their food as terrible. The waitress refused to separate our checks (even though 11 of us were paying with separate credit cards). She told us to put shapes by each of the dishes / drinks and she would charge our cards according to the shapes. Really? We asked to speak with the manager. He told us that he would not separate our orders and that if we had "trouble with the math" - we should use a calculator. Trouble with math...really?? We finally agreed to put shapes by the orders. This, being an exceptionally stupid idea was quite entertaining to watch as everyone put shapes by their orders (she didnt seem to need our names - just shapes). We then handed the waitress 11 different credit cards in a pile. She stormed off, disappeared for around 20 minutes, and came back with our separate checks. Taking our payment took easily an hour.

Good food and great atmosphere. This is not the place to come if you are in a group. They are not willing to split the check for you. Can you imagine (especially after everyone in your party has had a few drinks) 10,15,20 however many people, trying to figure out their own portion of the bill. Everyone throwing in their portion of the bill, but of course they didnt figure in tax or their portion of the tip. Someone always has to overpay because everyone says "well I threw in enough for mine" when in fact "no sir, you didnt". Oh and lets not forget that one friend that pipes in "I only have a card". Come on Tres this is the 21st century, update your system or change your policy, whatever it is, and split the checks. Everywhere else can do it. Just think, for every party you have, at least one person leaves feeling wronged.

We had some friends in town and wanted some good Mexican food. Tres Hombres came recommended.....and we were so disappointed. First they sat us in a booth right at the front door when it was not busy and there were plenty of tables. When we got moved to another table by the waiters station, we sat for 15 minutes before a waiter even came to ask us about water..then we waited another 10 for our drinks. The food came....and again...we were very disappointed. Nothing special here, completely lacking in flavor and literally in my opinion just thrown on the plate. For the price and flavor you will get better quality at a taco truck or lower end Mexican restaurant. The one outstanding quality of Tres Hombres is the atmosphere..the building is beautiful. For food and drink...save your money.

Tres Hombres has always been one of our favorite restaurants to eat at. The outside patio has become a real hit with everyone including us. The staff is friendly and attentive. Lately, in our opinion however, the quality of the food is not what it used to be. Recently we took a friend and we all agreed the food was just so-so. My Caesar Salad was small, wilted, tasteless and quite frankly the lettuce looked a few days old. The tostada on the lunch menu says it comes in a "crispy tortilla shell". Well, unfortunately in my opinion it comes in a shell, but the shell looks and taste like a piece of brown cardboard. So come on Tres Hombres lets get that quality where it used to be...Thanks for letting me share.

I think with Tres, youre paying for the unique decor/atmosphere, and the prime location in downtown Chico. Its the perfect place to eat when youre attending an event at Laxson Auditorium in the evening. The food ranges from great(fajitas, fish tacos, salads, and margaritas) to average (enchiladas). Be aware that the service can be spotty on Friday and Saturday nights due to the crowds and the tendency for people to linger/drink at their tables which can increase the wait times ( would not recommend bringing the kids in the evening ).Overall, its become an institution in Chico and is on our "date night restaurant rotation list" when we get a sitter.

Love/hate relationship with this place. There have been times over the last year where the food has just been awful...like the dinner plate was left under the heat lamp for about an hour, the beans were totally dried out. However, the last two times I went the quality seems to be getting better. I also think the bar tenders need to learn how to make a margarita. They are either watery or overly sweet. And, every time I order a specialty margarita it doesnt really taste much different than a house one. Makes me think they dont actually make it as the menu description. The location cant be beat however.

This is a very popular local spot. Most people visiting chico on college tours will probably end up here at some point. With that being said, the food is similar to white wash Mexican food restaurants. They offer large portions for a decent price and the food is good. My only complaint is that every time I go there the waiters and waitresses are so overwhelmed by the amount of people at the restaurant that they seem to just come by to take our order and saunter off. Most of them are halfway across the room by the time we can ask for more water. Overall its a great place run by the college crowd.

I was very shock when I was seated in the outside patio I did not notice when I 1st sat down because the waitress put the menus down on the table. our orders where taken , the menus removed from our table. they had just open there was dried old food in the cracks of the table I was unable to eat my lunch and I had bragged about this place to the company I was with they told me my restaurant never had food stuck in the slates of the table, my waitress in that section would have been written up or I would have closed that section until all the tables are cleaned . It was discussing.

I took 3 exchange students from Ecuador in there last week (one was 18 that day) and had the worst service I have ever had anywhere. It took 20 minutes after we sat down to get any service. It was a Monday night and not crowded at all, maybe 11-12 tables only. It took almost 45 minutes to get tacos cokes and fries and they were nothing to write home about. They added an automatic 20% tip that I would have never given to the waitress. My margarita was awful and was nothing but ice and very little liquid. I dont think I will ever go back there.

If it were just one visit I wouldnt say anything but the last three times weve been there or service was terrible. We were seated quickly then waited forever to place or drink orders, longer still for our food, and then waited even longer to actually get the food. The wait was so bad one time half our party went to another bar to get drinks and came back before our server. Once we got our food its been over priced for what we got. There one positive is the avocado margarita and its just not worth the experience to get it.
