New favorite hang-out? Cafe Coda. The breakfast I just enjoyed was astoundingly well balanced and delicious. The chef and the server accommodated my vegetarian choices gracefully - without apparent effort. I ordered todays special, which was a "Savory Griddle Cake" made with Organic Brown Rice, Eggs, Green Onion, Cilantro, and Parmesan Cheese, topped with black pepercorn butter. This was bordered beautifully by a fresh zucchini VERY delicately toasted to perfection, three AMAZING veggie-sausage-links, and a fresh (but warmed!) tomato. It only cost $10, so I tipped $5. Incredible. Excellent service. The atmosphere is warm, soft, and welcoming. The workers here are helpful and calm and friendly. The drinking water provided was room-temperature with no ice (ideal! FINALLY someone understands what is healthy for the body-!) and the menu (especially drink items..) was extensive. Sitting here for the last two hours, I am STILL impressed. They offer free Wifi and their set-up is open and inviting. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to support tasty, local eatings in a relaxed environment with natural lighting. I walked in after several years of thinking about it. I was shocked by the incredible quality of product and service provided me. THANK YOU, CAFE CODA, for making my Wednesday morning to afternoon transition effortless. I will not wait so long to try new places from now on; and Ill be back HERE shortly.

I regret having to give Cafe Coda 1 star especially when I had such high hopes, but the terrible service overshadows anything else. We came in for brunch on a Sunday. There were just a few occupied tables and no wait. We were seated immediately then waited 15 mins before anyone asked if we wanted something to drink. After ordering our meals we then waited 40 mins to be served. The person who appeared to be the manager went to a couple of tables, (we werent one of them), to state that they werent breaking any land speed records that day. When we got our orders I stated that I needed some butter and my husband said he was missing his fruit plate. Our server disappeared then returned to the bar area and started to count her money, no butter, no fruit plate. We flagged down a busser to get what we were waiting for. I was really hoping that the food was worth the bad service, but alas, it wasnt. I had the granola strawberry pancakes which were good and the rest of my family had the eggs benedict which was mediocre. I will continue to go to Sin of Cortez where the food and service are excellent even when theyre slammed.

Honestly... I really do like this place. I enjoy the food, the coffee, the ambiance, I even like the tucked-away downtown location. Heck, coming here on a rainy day makes me love living in Chico even more. My complaint is this: The staff. Consistently and without fail, they are just plain cold and rude. Not a warm or courteous bone in their body it seems. Not even a smile. If its not a blank and emotionless stare into your face, its an annoyed tone and one word answers. Ive consistently felt as though I were just "in the way" and that it would be much better for them if I just left. I wanted to believe that it was maybe this terse, all-business, "hipster" style that they had going, but Ive been to places like that. They may act all business and cool, but dont act like jerks and treat you like youre an inconvenience. I wanted to love this place, but I dont love businesses that do not make you feel welcome and just look at you like youre an idiot. I can go to Dennys, pay half of the cost for worse food, and get treated way better. Its time to step up your game, Cafe Coda.

Best poached eggs in town... perfection nearly every single time. They make their own almond milk and their Maple Lattes with almond milk are the most exquisite way to inject caffeine into my system Ive experienced in NorCal. I get the Eggs Blackstone and NEVER regret it. Theres a long wait sometimes, and the atmosphere is a little loud... but when a small place is packed due to being downright awesome, those are 2 forgivable side effects. I like a big meal and find myself perfectly full, so Im not sure what that other reviewer is talking about when they say the servings are small. Service is definitely a little lacking, not horrible, just has room for improvement... its such a small complaint for me personally, that I wish there was a 6th star I could give in the rating system. Now, if only theyd change their hours to 24/7, lol.

Best breakfast in Chico! Creative and delicious. Love the benedict and lemon raspberry poppyseed pancakes! Husband loves the cranberry orange french toast. If you like breakfast done right and cannot understand why so many screw up an essentially easy meal time, then come to Coda. You will not be disapointed unless you like places likeDennys...if that is the case then you will never get it.

Ive been to Cafe Coda many, many times. Im addicted to their Chilequiles. I order it every single time. The service has always been great. Its a wonderful place to meet friends for brunch or cozy up with my hubby for a breakfast date. On Saturdays and Sundays there is often a long wait, but this should tell you that its worth it! Come early and it shouldnt be a problem.

The worst breakfast burrito I have ever eaten in my life!! seriously that bad!! some black beans and eggs with one tiny lump of avacodo should not be called a burrito, it had some cilantro but no onions? and no cheese and no flavor it seemed like someone forgot they where making a burrito about halfway through I wont be back

Seems pretty great, too loud for just trying to go eat with a friend and could barely hear eachother due to the live band in the other room. Food seemed great until I got to the hair in my salad! I would consider going back if it werent so loud and minus the hair in the food issues!!

The food was not particularly good. The waiter was inattentive, he never asked if we would like a coffee refill. As soon as our plates were cleared my mother and I were asked to leave in order to open the table for other guests. It was an awkward situation, we will not go back.
