First of all, this place opened up two storefronts down from Mingalaba, which is a bit uncool from a competitive perspective. However, I dont think Mingalaba has much to worry about with regards to the food. Most of everything at Rangoon Ruby is fairly under seasoned – the lamb curry, the Burmese chicken noodle were both pretty bland. They werent bad, but definitely not of the same level as M. The most telling part, however, was the rice. If theres one thing I cannot stand about any Asian restaurant is if they botch the rice. Its the most fundamental ingredient that RR messed up. Too much water, too mushy. It just made everything else really mediocre. At this point, the slick decor and the decent service just could not make up for the lack of detail in the food itself. Rangoon Ruby may be new on Burlingame Avenue, but its currently just catching a lot of the overflow business from Mingalaba solely on novelty. The quality of the food and the somewhat unjustified pricing just doesnt make it a serious competitor for their more established neighbor.

Yesterday, we decided to order our food to go instead of eating in (I was feeling under the weather) and made a quick decision to just go home. When we arrived home and opened our to-go boxes we were very disappointed. The red curry with chicken was basically chicken adobo. We also ordered a pad thai dish and it was nothing like the pad thai that you would expect as it lacked flavor; the flavors were very different.

I really like the food here, sort of Korean Indian fusion. Everything had a kick to it and presentation was nice. For large groups however the tables can get a bit crowded because they are small. Service was excellent and the waiters were a helpful happy lot.

The food is insanely good, but the atmosphere leaves a bit too be desired. Went in for lunch with a big group, and they had daytime TV showing on a big screen in the middle of the restaurant. Not sure why a semi-upscale joint needs a TV, but they have one.

Been there five or six times. Each time it gets a little worse. I can never find something thats good for one person for lunch.. End up eating a whole plate of something like pad Thai.... All the plates seem the same after a while.

This was my first time to try Burmese food and I definitely enjoyed it. My aunt who has been to Burma says that the flavors are authentic. Service was excellent and that was a major plus! Try the tea leaf salad and the soups!

Best Burmese food, I like this chain of restaurants even though they are all owned separately. They have the same menu and I highly recommend the sesame beef, garlic noodles and the famous tea leaf salad!

Stopped going to Burma Superstar after we found this place. This location has no waiting compared to the Palo Alto and other Peninsula location.

A little pricey for the food that is being offered. Our orders were forgotten and we got the entrees before the appetizers.

Pretty good. Usually not that hard to get seating here, even at dinner. There is much better Burmese nearby.
