9/3/14 The next time a friend or colleague asks me to recommend a place for a fun weekend getaway, or a great retreat for a romantic rendezvous, I will encourage them to enjoy a stay at the Bodega Bay Lodge. The Lodge is only a short distance from our home in the East Bay (less than two hours away), but its in its entirely own wonderful world. After stopping to see our family in Petaluma, we drove 30 minutes further, passing hillsides with green grass and colorful flowers, and families of black and white cows busy grazing, and happily flicking their sun-drenched tails. We arrived at the Lodge about an hour before official check-in. We spent this time at the pool and in the fitness center. (Well, more like 15 minutes in the fitness center, and then some time at the pool). A beautiful outdoor shower is provided so you can clean off before getting into their heated pool and giant infinity spa. I took a quick cold shower which made the cool pool water feel much more welcoming. The weather was cool and breezy, so after a few laps, we enjoyed resting in front of the heated infinity spa jets. I did notice their pool is 8 ft deep. Soooo nice! I rarely see deep pools any more. It made swimming and playing in the water so much fun! We were called when our room was ready but cell phone service was slim (even though I had internet with the free wifi they provide, I couldnt easily make or receive calls - and I have Verizon!) So we missed this call, but strolled back to the front lobby at the perfect time. The terrific welcome we were given included a description of the resorts amenities. Our key let us into an over-sized room with a beautiful view. There was a fire place, a large bath tub, and a wonderful shower in the bathroom. There was a sound machine that we set to softly play "city sounds". When the back door to the deck was open we could hear the ocean sounds. It was a nice combination. A small fridge is also in the room, and a wonderful single-use coffee maker. My first cup of tea was full of soapy water once it was heated, and although I had to remake another cup, I was happy that their dishes were not overlooked in cleaning. The resort has bikes available to use (free!) and we took a lovely 40 minute bike ride along a safe, winding road through the state park to the ocean. That was one of my favorite things about the weekend. The bike ride was enjoyable - even helmets are provided and the bikes are really nice. If you want a quick bite to eat, there is a happy hour to welcome guests with cheese, crackers, and wine in the lobby where you check in. We chatted with other guests while we snacked for the hour. Even the staff were happy to be engaged in conversations. Dont eat too much here though because youll want to check out the Duck Club. This wonderful restaurant on the premise was our dinner and breakfast destination. I cant say enough good things about the food - Our favorite items were the Oysters Rockefeller at night, and the corn-flake-crusted-French-toast the next day! I really cant wait to go back - and Im just as excited to sincerely recommend that my friends check the place out for a pleasurable and affordable weekend-away.

My husband and I had our wedding at the Bodega Bay Lodge this past September. My family and I have been going there for years and my husband had never seen it, so he put his full trust in all of us in picking the venue. When he first arrived in Bodega and then Bodega Bay Lodge (just 2 days before our wedding) he was blown away by the Lodge and area, and by blown away I mean eyes wide open, cheek to cheek smile and just an all around glimmer. The area, lodge and the team’s professionalism is just one of a kind. I cannot recommend a wedding at the Bodega Bay Lodge more if you are to be in Sonoma County. Our guests couldn’t get enough of it either. They loved the lodge and the area. Occasionally, you could just see them walking around trying to take pictures of everything while trying to soak the whole experience up. It was sensory overload. The day of our wedding was like a fairy tale. As far as flowers and decor (we stayed on the minimal side) the natural scenery takes care of everything. You have the sound, you have the lavender and various native flowers that will perfectly accent any floral display. The view is just to die for! Our day was perfect thanks to Bodega Bay Lodge’s talented wedding coordinator Cheri Uber. Initially I was so stressed, and she was there with me every step of the way. She would check on me and and reassure me. With her in command everything went down without a hitch. She took care of everything in a way that blocked stress and panic. I cannot thank her enough!! I highly recommend the Bodega Bay Lodge to anyone visiting the area, and if you are planning a wedding at the Bodega Bay Lodge you will be so lucky to get the opportunity to work with Cheri Uber.

This is not a 4 star hotel contrary to their advert. We booked a room for $400 per night. When we arrived, check in was 4pm, we were a little early so we decided to go to the pool and have a cocktail. However, there was nowhere to get a cocktail and the bar didnt open until 5pm. The pool and spa were nice though. Then we called to book a table at the restaurant, but they were fully booked. They said we could use the lounge for dinner and no booking would be required, however, when we got to the lounge, it was literally smaller than our lounge at home and again, it was full. This hotel advertises amenities that are either to small for the amount of guests or these facilities are closed when you want them. The town is quite a distance away to walk and we wanted to eat and drink, so we went to reception to check out and get a refund. This also turned into a debacle as they persistently argued that somehow it was our fault that we were thirsty and hungry and that somehow they were not responsible for any facilities for their guests on site. If you simply want an average room for $400 a night with no guarantee of any other facilities, I guess this is your place. After more discussion, we finally got a refund and left. Certainly not worth the money with the lack of available facilities.

Wife and I stayed for three nights and loved Bodega Bay Lodge. The property is fantastic. Things we really liked included: hot tub, heated pool, clean and modern gym facilities with free weights and cardio machines, Bocce Ball court, and fire pits overlooking Bodega Bay. There is a wine/cheese reception every day at 5 pm in the lobby. The staff were fantastic. My wife left her iPad charger at the hotel and reception called and said they were going to mail it the following date. I thought the food at Drakes was tasty and well portioned. The location is not right in town but within a 10 minute walk OR a very short drive. Overall, the location is within a short drive (45 minutes?) to many of the sites like Tomales Bay, Fort Ross, and wineries. We will be going back.
