A cool looking place from the road but I would not go back! A beautiful back patio with stunning views over the forest- could be a very lovely place but this is a place where you must serve yourself completely. I initially sat on the front patio but there seemed no interest from inside to anyone on the patio know you had to order inside. There were 3 people and there dog who arrived before me and when they went inside and di not come back out I realised I needed to go inside to seek service. As soon as I walked in with my 2 well-behaved dogs I was greeted by a gentleman behind the counter who told me they welcomed dogs on the front and back patio but not inside. I started to make my way to the back patio and he told me the only menu was on the chalkboard inside. It was clear from his comment he wanted me on one of the patios with my dogs and when I asked if he had a menu I could take with me he said no - -fortunately a co-worker piped up and said it was OK for me to have the dogs whilst I ordered. (Mind you this is a counter with no seating and the restaurant portion of the inside was not in the vicinity of the counter). The back patio was beautiful and the food was decent. The place advertises fresh ingredients but the avocado was the spreadable costco style. The food was good otherwise and the view was good - I guess in spite of acting dog-friendly when I was first greeted this is really not a dog-friendly place (or at least not by this staff member) and on top of that - -I didnt even get a glass of water or offered a drink with my meal. The decent breakfast and the great back patio view are the only reasons this review is not a 1 star. This is the worst stop in my 3 years of vacationing in Carmel area with my dogs and I will never stop here again!!

We arrived and the ambiance is very new, open and a back patio. We sat inside and right away we were told food would be 30 min behind? I guess honest… Our waiter was sincere but didnt go over the menu, it is limited a handful of items Wish they would of had more choices in salads. I ordered the house salad and it had too much olive oil in the dressing. It was tasty but less is more considering the array of fresh salad mix. I think they have been getting busy but are not equipped to handle the influx of business and were out of quite a few item on the menu. We were the first seated and to order but somehow the last ones to receive our food? I guess they chef works out of order? Kind of annoying

THE BEST DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. Notice how I didnt say one of the best. You truly need to go there to know what I mean. Its a sweet little homely place that is just that... homely. From how you are greeted in till the time u finally pay your bill, they make you feel so comfortable and not rushed for anything. They literally make you feel like you are at home. Polite and efficient. Great wine and dine place. A simply MUST TRY place on my list of places in the world.

We didnt get through the door, evidently the waiter who spoke in a very Monty Python French (we apparently were those dirty English k-niggits) accent said we needed a reservation, and was rude beyond belief. Wish I had taken his picture because his expression said it all. With a name like Roadhouse we were expecting BBQ/Bar fare, peanut shells on the floor and a very laid back atmosphere... NOT this place. We will not return. EVER. I have no tolerance for rudeness or snobbery.

Very nice friendly staff, a warm welcome for us and our dog (outside seating of course). The beers were good, a nice selection. the wine was very nice. The food was good and tasty, but bit pricey for what it was overall (in my opinion), but then, all the restaurants are along this road. Nice setting overlooking the forest, very relaxing. We would happily visit again

If you stay at glen oaks across the road you get a sad free breakfast consisted of only 1 donut per person and a watery coffee, if you ask for a second donut! They charge you extra!! We wont get back. Better food and service at the River inn

We had a delightful breakfast on the outdoor terrace. The kids had oatmeal with fun stuff on it, and we each had omelettes that were quite good. Very good service. Back home in Tennessee, it would have been overpriced, but in Big Sur, it was about what you would expect to pay.

Loved the patio and the evening fire was great, cool bathroom sink... but their food, especially their fried chicken was just horrible. There were some interesting tastes on other dishes, but even with an open mind--we will just skip this one next time.

A great place to stay. The rooms are modern with quirky features and its so quiet at night you can sink into the comfy beds and sleep 8 hours straight. Its also perfectly located for exploring the area. Avoid the restaurant across the road.

Cute little spot at our hotel. Order at the bar and have a seat. The mexican options were both very well done. The portion sizes are quite small, so order extra if you are hungry. Prices are a bit high for the portion size here.
