Laneplitter is exactly what I want in a pizza/pub joint, and the standard to which I hold other pizza joints (none have surpassed the Splitter, to date. Hence this review). This place was my living room and kitchen for several years: first while I lived in a small basement apartment nearby, and subsequently when I lived aboard a sailboat in the Berkeley marina. Unfortunately, I have moved away from Berkeley and my review is based upon (extensive) prior experience, with regular periodic sampling (i.e. visits to the Bay) over the past few years. - consistent food. Pizza is good, seldom stellar but predictably satisfying. I usually went for pineapple/jalapeno or sausage/mushroom. A pitcher of beer, a large pizza, and a salad to share = awesome meal for two with leftovers (if you dont kill the whole pizza...) - good drink - Beer. Also water if youre into that kind of thing. I wouldnt know what else they serve. But Beer: theres something for everybody on tap. I always went for an IPA but all palates can find something. - pleasant atmosphere. High ceilings, open kitchen, nice backyard, local artwork. No cheapo checkered tablecloths (BYO). This place at 3pm on a weekday afternoon is just about my idea of heaven on earth: beer, pizza, read a book, play a game, chat with friends, sketch, whatever. - staff. I dunno who works there these days, so my opinion may be dated. But: I have never been disappointed at the splitter. The wait and bar staff have always been great, you wont have an empty glass for long.

Oh where to begin... The pizza is great. Thin, crispy crust despite the cheese and toppings. They have a great slice menu. They usually only have 3-4 types readily available but have no problem making one if you want it. They always have the vegan slice option available. Speaking of, Im no vegan, but I do love their vegan pizza. Super tasty. I love getting it when I want something a bit lighter. They have a pretty solid beer selection. Some 10+ beers available. They have a rotating selection as well, which is great. They have a happy hour $5 beer that changes. In the past it was Grapefruit Sculpin, which was... just fantastic. Now the staff. The staff is just fantastic. They are super nice, patient, friendly. They can get pretty busy, but they still get around pretty quickly. I never have to wait too long. The awesome staff is definitely a big reason I come here a lot. The establishment itself is quite nice. Lots of room plus they have an outdoor area. Great to just chill at on a warm day with beer. I love coming here after work and on weekends. Its a nice place to get some work done. Just a good, relaxing place to settle in, grab some beer, and have a good time. A++++ highly recommended.

I just want to say, Im kinda sad that there are some negative reviews here. I love this place! They hire a sustainable workforce... meaning you pay a bit more, and they pay the staff a bit more, but they encourage you NOT to tip. I usually tip anyway, but if youre on a budget and want to skip that, nobody gets offended. If you can, order a whole pizza (they now have smaller ones so if youre solo you dont need to get more than you need) instead of a slice youll enjoy it more. Fresh out of the oven rocks. Beer is NOT flat as someone posted, unless they got the hand-pumped IPA which is served English style. Plus you can order a great salad if youre off the carbs one night. Old school TVs - its not a sports bar but they will play the local teams if you want. Usually its a 50 year old movie which can make for a great conversation starter. Also have to add, they have an awesome backyard with picnic tables under a hug pine tree. Great place to have lunch or dinner in the outdoors.

The Bay Area pizza scene is young, a bit confused and still trying to hash out its myriad of cultural influences. With that in mind, I think that the Bay Area is one of the most exciting places to find pizza int he US. We arent tied to die-hard fanaticism about how deep, crunchy, oily or stuffed our crust should be. There are no rules that pizzas cant have fish as a topping or that 3 toppings is a max. This is the Wild Wild West of pizza and one of the places having fun experimenting is Lane Splitter in Berkeley. Here you can get a pizza neopolitan, sicilian, vegan, you name it. One of my favorites is the Splitter with roasted chicken breast, roasted peppers, spinach, and the house four-cheese blend.

The coolest thing about this place is that everyone who works there gets paid a living wage. You dont have to tip, and you can not do so guilt free. Next: I am originally from NJ, and let me tell you, it has been a struggle to find decent thin crust pizza out here. Lanesplitter pizza has been the closest thing to east coast pizza that Ive found! Crust is nice and crisp, and their special pizzas come in yummy flavors (like bacon and gorgonzola). You can get pizza by the slice or by the pie, and their happy hour is nice too.

Ive been in a few times for a quick bite, and each time pretty disappointed overall with the quality of pizza. When people say the West Coast just doesnt get pizza, I think its because a place like this is able to do so well and get rave reviews despite being pretty obviously not great. Thats not to say there arent some great pizzerias around here, this just definitely isnt one of them.

The staff was great, the food was meh. The garlic bread was ok. Their red sauce is more sweet than savory (I prefer savory). The chicken was thin and the crust on the regular pizza is very thin and easily became soggy mush. Its a pretty pricey pizza place for sweet soggy mush. My friend enjoyed it though so its more about personal preference than Lanesplitter being just an average place.

LOVE Lanesplitter. One of the things I miss most about that neighborhood. Great beer selection (they carry my favorite-- Death & Taxes), decent pizza with lots of vegetarian and even vegan options, casual, even good for familes. Outdoor seating in the back patio makes for a great gathering space now that were old enough that most of our friends have rugrats who need to run around

Decent pizza (thin new york style crust and cooked very well), great pizza place with toppings you would typically expect to see (nothing fancy like kale or squash). Really great hangout spot - big selection of beer and some wine. Good prices and a big outdoor patio area makes it good for a big friend group. Street parking wasnt too hard to find on a Monday night.

Excellent service! Very friendly people. The pizzas are delicious and there is a great variety of beers. The servers will help you find the beer you are looking to try. Also friendly to talk to if youre at the bar by your self or there with friends.

Best cheap pizza in the area. It has always been the perfect choice for a team party at the nearby little league fields. Note: pick it up in person and you get a really nice discount on a couple of larges.

Pizza was mighty tasty, though perhaps not the freshest. There was a long wait, but we were able to snag seats at the bar. Service was ridiculously awesome. Great little place to hang out with friends.
