Since it changed ownership and underwent a "remodeling" fairly recently, this formerly wonderful restaurant has become a huge disappointment. As neighbors, weve been going there for about 19 years, and we were always recognized and greeted by the entire staff (not just our server), who would stop by briefly to converse. This entire staff has apparently been fired. Tonight (a Friday!) at around 6:00 p.m., there were only two waitresses and one cashier on staff, and the place was virtually empty. The only "remodeling" has been the addition of a neon "Were Open" sign (theyre going to need that!) and two big-screen TVs (usually turned off). The new owners didnt even shampoo the carpet or change the covers of the worn menus--only the prices inside. There was not a single mushroom in the sizzling rice soup, and when I mentioned this to our server, she never came back to address the issue. My husband and I will miss China Phoenix, but I doubt we will ever go back.

Best Chinese food in Tucson and the cleanest Chinese restaurant Ive been in. Hands down best Dim Sum in Tucson (as long as Ben the owner is cooking the Dim Sum that day). Ive been going here for more than 15 years and have tried almost everything on the menu. I have only had one meal that was not amazing, and that was when the owner/chef was on vacation. Dim sum is like an art, and chef Ben is to Dim Sum like "Jiro Dreams of Sushi". The owners and staff definitely care about this restaurant and take pride in the food they make. Many of the same people have been working there the entire time Ive been going there. They are like a family that makes and serves you delicious Chinese food, then cleans up after you. Also, it feels good to support local businesses like China Phoenix.

Horrible customer service. The hostess/waitress Susan is beyond rude. I enjoyed the food, and was a regular patron for over 7 months.9/10 times Susan was my server and she was rude every-time. I tried to attribute her poor service to having a bad day, but its hard to believe everyday was a bad day. On my last visit to the restaurant I made a to-go order. I checked my order before leaving the restaurant and noticed there were no sauces in my bag. I ask Susan for some and she promptly erupted the sauces were in the bag. I informed her there were none and she instructed me to wait. Meanwhile she took the 3 other patrons in line behind me order while I stood waiting at the register. I finally ended up leaving with no sauces, and I have not returned since.

I have been sampling my favorite dish at all of the Chinese restaurants in Tucson: Wor Won Ton Soup. I finally found the perfect soup at the China Phoenix restaurant. The broth is delicious and tastes like it was made from scratch. The won tons are filled generously with a tasty seafood filling. The vegetables are cooked to perfection: Broccoli, napa cabbage, snow peas, mushrooms, carrots, and other things. Also, they add thinly sliced meats such as chicken, pork and beef. You must, must try the Wor Won Ton Soup at China Phoenix!! Next time I go there, Ill take a photo and post it to this site. This is the best Wor Won Ton soup in Tucson!! Mandarin Grills Wor Won Ton (on Grant/1st) takes a close 2nd place.

What happened? I used to really enjoy the takeout. Havent ordered for many months. Decided to get some carryout tonight. Huge disappointment. From other reviews im hearing new management. It seems that they are trying to cut every corner to save on costs. The new eggrolls, garbage. The egg drop soup, zero flavor. Hot and spicy beef, about as much flavor as the white rice it comes with. Not to mention it smells like horse urine. They even substituted with cheaper containers and it leaked all over the inside of the bag. Sad to say, tonight will be our last time ordering from here. Unless my dog wants to dine there on his birthday, then I might consider.

A group of us tried this place on a sunday night and came to the agreement that this place served the most authentic and best tasting chinese food in town. The portions are massive, the food tastes super fresh, and for everything you get the price per plate is super cheap! Another thing to note was the customer service. Not only was our waiter constantly refilling our drinks and checking on us, but when you look around the restaurant, they were all doing the same. They are extremely friendly and upbeat. Thank you Amy for the excellent service, we all wish this place the best for success and will return frequently!

Ive been all over the world and had Chinese food in many, many countries, including Hong Kong China. I can safely say this was the worst "Chinese" food Ive ever had. I sent the first dish back because the shrimp tasted foul. Then I ordered chicken and a side for Fried Rice. The chicken was nuggets of something...chicken is doubtful. The "Fried Rice" was some mess that tasted more like groats than rice. Really, send your enemies to this joint. Regale them with the fine cuisine. You neednt worry, you will never hear from them again.

The best chinese restaurant in arizona. Everyone that works there is from china, minus the dishwashers, who are american and mexican, real chinese food made by real chinese. Food is unbelievably good, and just huge massive portions. I have eaten in most of the chinese restaurants in tucson. And china phoenix is the number one chinese restaurant in all of tucson, in my opinion. The triple chicken mushroom is AWESOME. So check out the china phoenix, you will not be disappointed.

BBQ Pork Fried Rice. Absolute oil slick. Should exit my body fast. General Tso Chicken. Breading was just slimy and the chicken was bone dry. Service was quick and staff was friendly but the food was atrocious. I would not go again or recommend. After being in Tucson for almost a year, I have determined that this city has the worst Chinese restaurants i have ever been to. Even the armpit of the southwest (Clovis, NM), has better Chinese food.

Were from Philadelphia and Chicago; we KNOW good American Chinese cuisine. China Phoenix is as good as it gets in Tucson. No contest, and weve tried several others that have been recommended by people who cant even identify good Mexican cuisine here. Nothing glitzy about the restaurant, but thats absolutely immaterial. The quality of the food is what separates authentic Chinese food from faux Chinese food. blov8r

I have been coming here since I was a little kid. I love the food and the pricing is amazing. I love how now I can take my son here and enjoy something I have been enjoying for years. UPDATE: I am sad to say the food has gone down hill. With the change in owners, you expect it to change. But, the food was tasteless. Staff was amazing though. I might give it one more chance.

Very good Dim Sum on Saturdays and Sundays. You can tell if a Chinese restaurant is good when you see a lot of Chinese people eating there. They have decent weekly lunch specials thats catered to traditional Chinese tastes and styles as well as American-Chinese style. My kids love both the traditional and American-Chinese style. Hot tea could be better if it were loose leaf.
