If you are looking for a nice Italian restaurant to take a friend (you have a slight interest in, but not enough interest to date) to dinner, Picclo Angolo is the place to go. I called in a day before to RSVP which is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. My friend and I went on a Saturday night at 8pm and the place was jammed packed, every seat taken. It seemed like most customers RSVPd because there was no waiting line (except for us) and NO WAITING AREA. We were standing in front of the door for 10 minutes patiently waiting and staring at the customers hinting them to quickly eat and leave (I bet you do that too). After all, we did have reservations. The AMBIANCE of the restaurant was dim lighted with candles and VERY WARM in presence. Note the seats are very close together so be expected to listen in on strangers conversations throughout the night perhaps dine with them. Once we sat down the server politely introduced himself and provided us the menu. He also brought FRESH GARLIC BREAD straight-out-of-the-over. We devoured it and asked for more which he gladly provided. We ordered LINGUINE WITH CLAMS and FETTUCCINE AL PESTO. Both dishes were FANTASTICO- the linguine with claims more so because of the generous portion of clams and the divine clam essence in the sauce. The noodles were soft and slightly chewy, cooked to perfection. I was not a big fan of the fettuccine because of the thickness of the sauce, however my friend enjoyed it. I rarely order pasta at restaurants because it is overpriced (noodles at the super market costs $2 for 4 servings of pasta and $4 for a can of sauce), but Piccolo Angolo was well worth the money. The pasta cannot be recreated at home and I strongly recommend those who love linguine with clams to try it!

Indifferent, incompetent staff and belligerent management turned what looked to be an enjoyable old school cozy Italian delight into a nightmare. Obtaining a glass of wine should not become an ordeal resulting in finger pointing betwen management and staff, each spending more time call ing each other out than fulfilling the request. The pear gorgonzola salad looked divine. Unfortunately 20 minutes later, we were served a bland caprese. Again the staff said we ordered incorrectly until 5 minutes later the manager apologized. But wait, things go downhill from here. The wrong pasta with the wrong sauce resulted in another 15 minute delay. The manager finally offered a second main course of sumptuous looking ossobuco. By this point we were running late for a party, so we had a few quick bites and requested the remaining portions to go. Yelling from the kitchen 10 minutes later was heard throughout the restautant. It was clear the ossobuco to go was gone. When I refused to pay for an entree we could not enjoy, even at a later date, the chef (presumably owner) stormed out of the kitchen screaming that we were trying to get out of paying and lookin for a free dinner. Needless to say a scene ensued; the most atrocious la Guage and offensive behavior I have witnessed in 35 years of NYC dining. Avoid these toxic people regardless of how good the food may be.

I have eaten at Piccolo Angolo many times and cannot stop raving about the food. However, the service at this restaurant is horrendous and the owner is extremely rude and disrespectful. I understand that it is a challenge to get reservations; however, I was there two weeks ago and was totally taken aback at how rude and insulting the owner was to my friend. The restaurant was virtually empty and a staff member the previous day had told me on the phone not to worry about a reservation since I was planning on being at the restaurant at 5:30pm. When my friend arrived at the restaurant the owner in a very disrespectful way told her that he did not have anything available even though most of the tables were empty. She left after this exchange, where I not knowing what had transpired, arrived at the restaurant to ask for a table and told him I didnt have reservations. After some reluctance he proceeded to seat me. When I called my friend to tell her about the table, she told me that she had arrived earlier and had been turned away. I dont understand this double standard. Needless to say I will not be returning nor recommending this place of business to anyone. NYC has too many restaurants with great food and service for anyone to be subject to this type of behavior.

Piccolo Angolo is a typical home cooked, family run, red sauce Italian restaurant. What to expect... firstly very pleasant service! If youre lucky enough to have the owners daughter serve your table youre in luck because shes warm and welcoming. Youll feel part of the family quick. Secondly, except a lot of food. I mean a lot of food. The prices are a little higher than other spots but you wont be leaving hungry thats for sure. Your table will be served some bread. Half the basket will be garlic bread which was a pleasant surprise! Make sure you order the meatball as an app - 1 meatball is more than enough for 4 people! The food here is exactly what youll expect. Comfort Italian food. Pastas. Pastas and pastas. Theyre all good and you cant go wrong with anything you pick. Dont be shy. Use that bread to clean the plate of all that sauce. This place is that good!

In 30 years of living in NYC, this place has the best Italian food I have found. Even when compared to restaurants that are far more famous and expensive. The service is an act of "Italianess" which I guess some of the other reviewers found to be rude. I find it quite funny. They roll their eyes if you order just one course, if you want just a glass of water instead of the whole bottle of wine, and so on. And the desert menu is read as an auction house, and they roll their eyes again if you ask them to repeat any of it. It is just an act, and if you look at it as such, it is quite entertaining. And doesnt take away from the excellent food. Just make sure to get a reservation. It is nearly impossible to get in without one.

food was fine. Service was fine. Server was very pleasant when I asked to take home what I couldnt finish--and gave me instructions on best way to reheat it. Only problem was, she didnt close the takeout container properly and put it into a paper shopping bag. So, my problem has nothing to do with reheating it--its getting the tomato sauce stains off my clothing. I called to let them know, and the server INSISTED she had closed the container properly and tied the bag tightly. I asked how one can tie a paper shopping bag tightly--at which point she said, "they put it in the wrong bag."--blaming someone else. Turns out to have been a very costly meal, when dry cleaning bill for multiple items of clothing is factored in.

NOT WORTH GOING!! Had heard a rumor online that the restaurant loses reservations often, and this is what happened to us! Though the restaurant found a table to accommodate us, they were completely rude and really spoiled the tone of our evening. The hostess- the owners daughter- refused to apologize for the misunderstanding, told us they didnt need to seat us, that we were lying and hadnt actually made a reservation, etc. I dont need to be treated in such a disrespectful manner when I am paying to enjoy a nice meal out with friends. As a result, I will NEVER go back. Is the food good? Yes. Is there better food? Absolutely... and with a lot less attitude!
