We were excited to try some "famous" Chicago restaurant in a recent trip to Chicago, unfortunately, Genos East missed the mark. The server was terrible. He was rude, inattentive, failed to remember basic things (like our order!), and generally out of sight. The rest of the staff seemed normal, and helped us more than him, but his service was easily -2 stars on this review. We were seated quickly but advised of the hour wait for pizza orders by the host. We anticipated this, and decided to order sandwich and appetizers instead to avoid the wait. Unfortunately, the server failed to bring out the sausage chili bowl for 20 minutes, and forgot the beer flight as well. We actually had to ask the manager to check on it for us, and received them minutes later, however, they didnt identify the beers in the flight, so we just guessed. Our sandwichs came out 20 minutes after that. Had we known that EVERYTHING takes that long, we might have just ordered the pizza. The chicken parmesan sandwich had way too much bread and weird, whole tomatoes on it that made it impossible to eat properly. The appetizer was actually tasty when it finally arrived. The chili was especially good, with excellent spice and great flavor. The sandwiches were average and nothing really stood out flavor wise. Overall, the service and wait times were poor for average food. With the number of deep dish pizza restaurants in Chicago, there is no need to visit this one.

The pizza was good, thats it. Everything else was comically bad. The service was probably the worst Ive ever had at a restaurant. And the restaurant itself was like a sauna. This was on a Saturday night The first person to greet us gave off the vibe that he really didnt care to be there. Took our drink orders, brought them out, and we never saw him again. 30 min later someone finally took our order. about 45 min after our order was taken we still didnt have our pizza, but someone came by to see how every thing was. Arent you supposed to do check on us after we get our food? So an hour in we finally got our pizzas. They were good, but no one came by to see how everything was, fill our drinks or anything; but for some reason they did before we got our pizza. Strange. I served tables for almost 10 years at various restaurants so I try to be as understanding as I can. But this place needs some serious customer service improvements.

Had their deep dish pizza, as well as a thin crust pizza. The place had been recommended by a native of Chicago, so we gave it a try. Loved the ambiance of the place, along with the nice selection of craft brews. However, the pizza was just okay. The crust that they were using tasted more like a butter cookie than pizza dough, and I was not a fan of it. The sauce & the toppings were good, but the crust really detracts from it. Additionally, I was expecting a thicker, chunkier sauce on the deep dish - I guess I had heard that Chicago style deep dish has the sauce on top and that its a thicker sauce with more body to it. The sauce at Ginos was just regular old pizza sauce, but put on top. Maybe my expectations were not right, though. Just want to make sure that others know what to expect. Overall, its not a bad place, but next time we are in Chicago, Ill be looking for a better pizza joint.

Absolutely mystified with our experience. First , I had to take my son to the bathroom to wash his hands and found the water to be scalding hot. (They do not have hot/cold handles either ). When I talked to a Manger, they seemed to be less than understanding. While the food did taste good, I was surprised that they will take off all the items you want, but will not replace them without an additional charge. Finally, the service was atrocious. The only times our waiter came to the table was when I stopped him. We had to ask two separate times for water before it was finally brought, and even then, he almost forgot that it was our table that asked for water......on a late note, right before I had the chance to post this, they did take 50% off our bill....a nice gesture, but my sons safety and our experience means more than that.

Im a total lover for deep dish pizzas. In regards to the taste of the food, Id give it a 4 out of 5. The pizza tasted like it was not fully cooked. The dough felt soft, and so did the thick crust. All in all, I waited about 50 minutes for the small size pizza, which is fairly normal for deep dish. The price and service gets a 2 star, but the waiter who spilled beer all over me and my camera equipment and doesnt even apologize? Im not even sure how to rate that.. Also, in regards to the design of the restaurant - this is probably the most non-ADA compliant restaurants I have ever visited. There are no ramps for the 3 huge stairs, nor is there a door assist for the two front doors. More importantly, there is literally nowhere to put a stroller or a wheelchair unless you park it up front or leave it outside.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! We ordered an antipasto salad and a large pizza at 6:45pm. It arrived at 7:30pm. The salad was missing all of the meat. There was zero meat. We called to let them know. The man advised he would send a new one right away. 20 min later, a woman calls to tell us that our new order has left and is on its way. 30 min later, we call to check in on it. They say the driver did pick it up and should be there any moment. 30 min later we call again and speak to a different guy saying he had no order for us! He then says he cant deliver a new one now because they are closed. It was 9:02pm and they closed at 9pm and it was a salad! You dont have to cook anything!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

The restaurant closes at 10 pm and we call at 8:55 pm to say we are on our way but they tell me they close their kitchen at 9 and dont take pre orders. We were downtown, 5-10 mins away. I asked to see if The manager would accommodate us and they wouldnt. But I called quieter downtown location that also closes at 10 and they had no issue with us coming in. It wasnt as if we called at 9:50, it was more than an hour before. I find their lack of concern for an eager customer to be off putting and shows a lack of caring for customer service. Im gong to contact their corporate management. It is a our way to conduct business and a good way to lose it. Theyve lost mine.

Put in an order of one pizza, gave our address around the corner at the hotel and a cell phone number to contact us for delivery. Told it would be 40 minutes. An hour later I called and was told it would be another 1/2 hour. Called again and was told they were trying to figure out where the pizza was! Eventually told us they had given it to someone else. Of course, never called to let us know this, much less call to deliver it properly. Offered us a free pizza, which was going to take ANOTHER HOUR! Said no way, asked for a refund [still waiting for that] and headed outside to find another pizza place. Definitely not recommended.
