A cute, artisanal French Cafe located in the heart of the West Village, Dominique Bistro is a showcase to the rich history of French food. Dominique Bistro opened late last year and I was invited in to check out what head chef and namesake, Dominick Pepe, was dishing out. The restaurant is a Parisian-style cafe on the corner of Christopher and Gay Streets. The front of the restaurant has an enormous floor to ceiling window looking out onto Christopher Street and I was lucky enough to be seated in an ideal spot to take advantage of the view. The interior features an open kitchen with pops of French cultural flare scattered throughout. The vibe is classy and modern, and welcoming and inviting. It’s the kind of place I’d like to spend an afternoon sipping on wine. The food exiting the open kitchen is comforting French fare. You have your classics such as Croque-monsieur, as well as authentic countryside dishes such as beef bouillabaisse. I sampled a range of dishes. To start I tasted the ahi tuna tartare, pear salad and tomato soup. The highlights however were the main courses – beef bourguignon with braised beef, carrots, onions, mushrooms, potatoes and a red wine demi, and fettuccine with chanterelles, burgundy truffles in brown butter. The bourguignon was my favorite dish. It hit the spot and helped warm me up on a cold January night. This hearty beef stew had a gracious serving of beef and seemingly dissolved after a few bites. Delicious. Let’s not forget about dessert! I opted for the chocolate mousse and a heaping serving of sweetness came out. We’re not talking about any prim and proper chocolate mousse in a dish. This is a large hunk of chocolate mousse plopped down on a plate and decorated with strawberries. Dominique Bistro has gained a spot on my list of recommended restaurants in NYC. It’s the perfect quaint West Village cafe where you can sit and enjoy a casual glass (or bottle) of wine or treat yourself to some heartier French fare.

Went for a very early dinner at Dominique Bistro so there was practically no one there when we got there, which was just fine. We even managed to leave before the entire Friday night diners managed to fill the restaurant so cant tell how loud the place gets. Dont know whether it was due to the dishes we ordered, with the exception of the octopus, they seemed to be presented in a very rustic style. Speaking of the octopus it was done perfectly and the accompaniments complimented the dish nicely. The baked camembert my husband had was probably enough to share between two for a starter and was pleasant enough, though I preferred the octopus, but then Im always partial to octopus - done properly. Both the cassoulet and choucroute were served in pans and both were very tasty. Though I preferred the duck cassoulet. But considering all the different meats in both dishes I could happily have had either. Definitely comfort foods. We finished off the evening by sharing a chocolate mousse. Forgot to take a picture of it as I was too busy digging into it so youll have to make do with a description. 8) It was a chocolate mousse in a chocolate cup on the side along with 3 twirls of chocolate. So, not too much of a chocolate overload then! The mousse wasnt too sweet so it went down the hatch toute suite. Good job we shared it as it was quite large, but oh so yummy. Our waiter was very nice and friendly and the service was good. Overall a nice evening out.

My fiancee Jake and I are getting married in October, the day before the wedding we are treating our guests to a private tour of the village with a historian. Our hope was that the end of the tour would have an early dinner at Dominique Bistro. There are exactly 29 people in the party and we wanted you to be a part of the celebration weekend. We had been to their restaurant dozens of times, without a doubt, they had been on our top five favorite places to dine in the city. We always brought out-of-town guests to eat there, to share in the food and atmosphere; and up until recently we have also loved the service. However they dropped the ball big time and over a two week period we made five calls and got strung along from a member of their staff the entire time, who assured us they were going to work on helping make the day special but missed all their promised deliverables. In the end, they just stopped talking to us. We ended up sending a detailed complaint to management and they never responded or apologized, and now we have to pay to have your tour moved to accommodate another restaurant; bar-none some of the worst service I have received from a place here in the city with their acclaim... and we are spreading the word: if you want a decent walk up and dine with so-so service, eat here. But if you want to use them for a planned special occasion: avoid them, they are horrible from start to finish.

The food was outstanding. My boyfriend and I just left and we could not have found a better place to have dinner. We wanted to find a place that was on the fancier side for our date and while this spot was fancy, it was just the right vibe and atmosphere to make us feel comfortable and "at home". He got the steak frites for the main which was a strip steak with this tarragon butter that was made by the GODS and I had the mushroom ravioli. Let me just mention that I really dont like steak bc Im picky af but this steak - it came from heaven. We also ordered drinks and had the tomato/mozz appetizer and crème brûlée for desert. Everything from start to finish was perfection and if it were anything less, Id probably be way too lazy to write a review. But this place deserves it. What a wonderful date :)

Came here for brunch on a Saturday and was able to get seats for a group of 5 with no wait. I ordered the steak and eggs medium rare and instead got medium well. Since I was hungry and didnt mind eating the overcooked steak I didnt mention the mistake until the waitress came by to check if everything was okay (about 5-8 min after plates arrived). I mentioned to her that my steak wasnt medium rare as I had ordered and she questioned it, as if she couldnt just see how overcooked my steak was. They offered to fix the order, but I was afraid the food would take too long and I was super hungry. The staff wasnt really apologetic either. Overall, the space is cute but the food and service I received was okay.

to begin: came on Sunday morning, early, 2 other tables occupied. took 15-20 min to bring my coffee. thats enough to earn the one star this particular morning it was about 60 outside. door is wide open and fans running full tilt - freezing inside. we have been here about 40 min now waiting for eggs, the waitress asks us to move so they can OPEN THE WINDOWS!!!! the waitress was apologetic but said "Im sorry, the owner is requesting it". so, never mind the customer, because the owner wants it finally my food arrives: asked for bacon, got ham. never again. dont care how good the food is (which it wasnt). customer service doesnt exist.
