I am a huge donut aficionado. And I mean HUGE. I seek out donuts and pastries in every city I visit, and I am known as "the donut girl" by many friends and colleagues. And Greenbush is very hard to beat. True, some of their selections arent particularly exciting (I mean, what can you really do with a long john?), but their old fashioned donuts are probably the best I have ever come by. My coworkers in Ann Arbor beg for more, so whenever I visit Madison, I make sure to get a few dozen. One important thing about Greenbush is that they make all their donuts at night, so if you visit in mid-morning or late afternoon, you might not get the freshest donut. Go around 9pm or right away in the morning for prime time. Another thing to note is that the employees are stellar. Always cheerful, and they seem to really care about their jobs. The first time I got a dozen donuts from the store, I realized after carefully picking my donuts that I had left my wallet at a friends house and therefore had no way of paying. Greenbush gave me the dozen (and an extra) for free. Whenever I get some packaged for the seven hour drive to Ann Arbor, they always give me free ones for the road. Great customer service, guys :)

Look, you may not be a fan of each type of doughnut (I am not), not be a huge sugar junky (I am not), etc. but this place is special. They are, with the exception of a higher end restaurants hand-made chocolate potato flour doughnuts in Portland, OR, the best doughnuts Ive ever had. Sadly, or wonderfully, Ive had a lot of doughnuts and they are almost always too much. These strike the perfect balance between being light and fluffy and not oily or caked with nasty icing or too much sugar. Being new to Madison, this would be on a must try/eat list for any future visitors. If they allowed half stars, I would imagine the average rating here would be closer to 4.5 or 5 than 4.1. I have to add, who cares about the service? You go in and pick your doughnuts. They put em in a bag, and swipe your card or take your money. Your decisiveness and warm smile brightens your own day because you didnt let those bad doughnut peoples attitudes negatively affect your own focused and hungry state of mind. Nice job!

The donuts are amazing, i could eat them every day. My favorite was the one with oreo crumble on top even though they have only had it once in all the times I have gone. It is really hit or miss on the staff. The very first time I went there they were amazing and extremely helpful. Other times I have gone the men that work there are super nice and have even given me free donuts. However a couple of times I have gone there a woman helped and pardon my language but she was a b*tch. She was not helpful at all, which is necessary since they have different donuts every day, and she seemed to just hate people. She even threw my friend her change instead of handing it to her. Shes the one with the tattoos all up and down her arms, so beware if shes working.

I go here all the time and always tell people on Snapchat and social media to do the same. They have great donuts! A lady behind the counter encouraged me to buy a greenbush shirt saying that anytime I buy donuts I get a free one if Im wearing the shirt at the time of purchase. I finally went in with the shirt on and an employee (some skinny guy with glasses) behind the counter was quite a jerk about not doing a free donut with a purchase by giving a pretty lame excuse. I ultimately dont care about the free donut, but was so put off by the service. He also put the donuts so hard in the bag that they were broken when we went to eat them. Ordinarily, greenbush is a great experience, but maybe with the right employee?

These are the BEST donuts anywhere! I get them to enjoy with family and share them at office meetings and summer mission trips. When my family comes to town they always request Greenbush Bakery donuts. We even ordered donuts for my sons wedding last summer for the evening snack. Our guest loved them and enjoyed taking some home. The old fashion and raised raspberry filled are my favorites, well yes the chocolate ones too. My friend loves the chocolate with custard filling and blueberry old fashion. My boss likes the cinnamon roll and my son in the Air Force always request the cake and raised with sprinkles. If you have never tried Greenbush Bakery you are missing out on the BEST! Get to Greenbush today!

Usually I rave about the donuts from here. But recently the aesthetic quality has seemed to take a dive. The donuts look sloppy (or at least the ones that shouldnt look sloppy). The service is hit or miss (which can really be said about anywhere). The taste is fine (above average), but a beautiful donut just tastes better. Which is true for most products in life. People do pay for looks. Since the taste is there, not much more is needed to improve the experience. Just care in the art of making. My largest concern is the experience I have with my food. And lately it just hasnt been up to the standards I have seen them reach before.

The donuts are absolutely awesome. Best donuts in Madison, I think. As others have said, though, the staff mostly sucks. Some of the people working the counter are exceptionally pleasant (and I always tip them), but about 2/3rds have the most awful attitude Ive ever seen in retail. I really dont understand it, and I dont know why the owners hire these people, unless they really put on a game face in their interview. Theres generally no middle ground either - the person working is either REALLY friendly or REALLY pissy. Greenbush Bakery - extreme donuts, extreme staff (for better or worse).

So we went there this morning . We moved here from California where there is a doughnut shop on every corner... This is the only place, that we have found a decent doughnut.... expecting not so nice staff (according to the reviews) We met Patty... She was so nice... She even gave us 1/2 a fritter for free along with a blueberry maple cake doughnut... We were bummed that none of the doughnuts were warm from the oven being there at 7:30am... but I guess we need to go in the evening... Not so easy with kids... but we will try again... They need glazed twists... Warm would be awesome!

These are the best doughnuts in Madison without a doubt. They are fresh and delicious no matter what time of the day you stop and get them. Plus, youd be surprised the hours theyre open. Ive been getting doughnuts from here for years, and have never had a bad experience. Order ahead for larger orders to move through the line quickly. Dont be that guy who wants to pick the doughnuts for all 5 dozen you walked up to the counter and ordered. Weve all got places to be. Im excited that theyre opening up another location on the east side of Madison!

Pretty lousy donuts. Anyone rating these high needs to check out real donuts someday. Bought four. All were stale. Less than a quarter-size filling in the Oreo donut, the rest was stale dough and the topping was very dry. The bavarian creme had a little more filling but again, the donut had to be over a day old and the chocolate "icing" was crumbly and not soft. The apple-filled actually had a decent amount of filling, but that was the only thing made the donut tolerable. Otherwise again, it was stale dough. Pretty disappointing. Never go back.
