Im loath to rate a place as just ok when their product quality is quite good, but the people working there were just plain rude. As I will do, when I go to a new coffee house I ask if they do iced drinks because Ive been in the position of being somewhat reprimanded at other places for requesting this. The girl who answered me was fairly snotty and said that they could do anything. I got the same type of response when asking what flavor syrups they carry, without getting an actual answer. The barista was slightly more polite, but still didnt leave me feeling like this was a place to return to, which is sad since Im in the area a fair bit. The drink was good and the service was fast enough, but unfortunately I will not return.

Theres a rare gem in the heart of Ballard that brings a lot of love and a lot of caring to their philosophy of serving great coffee and food, and the name of this place is called Java Bean. I just cant say enough about how great my entire experience is with them. Superb tasting coffee, outstanding and friendly staff, and an owner who makes you feel like youre part of the family. Ballard is a great neighbourhood to visit, and Java Bean should be your prime destination! When it comes to the Seattle coffee shop experience, Let me tell you: it cant get any better than this!

Delicious coffee, comestibles and a great ambience. Your longstanding presence and quality deserve almost 5 stars. Why did you get rid of your wifi? I understand that the community issue is not upsetting the many regulars who cant find a table due to endless wifi, but the day I came in counting on it, I had exactly 1/2 hour before a big meeting, and would really have appreciated a time-restricted access. Can you offer non-endless wifi on trust? Maybe you have already tried it.

This place has some of the best coffee in Seattle, and it has a pleasant and homey atmosphere. Im not very fond of the food though, and its a little expensive. Also, the owner is not very nice to his staff, and it sometimes shows. Not in their attitude towards customers (almost always charming and pleasant), but sometimes they seem a bit beaten down. Though just this morning one of the staff told me they couldnt make a drink theyve made several times for me before.

The owner and staff of Java Bean Organic Coffee are truly and honestly committed to building a friendly, welcoming, community oriented atmosphere. On my first visit, they treated me like an old friend. As I sat working I heard them greet almost every patron by first name as they came through. Thats not even to mention the delicious beverage creations and innovations being brewed behind the counter. A wonderful and comfortable spot.

Java Bean has the peppiest baristas that Ive ever met, theyre brewing flavorful coffee, and theyve got a cozy, welcoming lodge-like atmosphere. Theyre a few blocks away from Old Ballard (or on the edge of?), making them a relaxing retreat for locals who would like to avoid the posturing of the downtown scene. Also, try their Cafe Mole. Im usually an americano or dry cappuccino kind of gal, but wowee-- that Cafe Mole is a TREAT!

I go here a lot, mostly because its convenient and the people who work there are always very friendly. The coffee is good--not over-roasted--and they have some good baked items from the Macrina bakery, but I wish they had some better food choices. Ive tried the breakfast sandwiches ("eggels") a few times and have always been kind of disappointed...the squash harvest bread and the almond croissants, however, are very good.

I came here almost every week day for most of 2016 while dog-walking, and Maria (the new owner) is an absolute joy, as are Adam, Mia and the rest. Ill really miss coming here all the time and doing my crossword and catching up with the gang... the coffee is great (and so are the eggels) and the service is A+ :) stay cool, guys!! Catch ya on the flip side!

I think this place has a great atmosphere. Unpretentious, calm, neighborhood feel. Lots of locals just enjoying each others company, sitting around chatting. This is like a welcoming livingroom! Im allergic to caffeine so I cant comment on their coffee quality, but I did love my chamomile tea. Will definitely be back!

Not sure whats up with their bagels, but theyre like big wads of halfway cooked dough. The first time I went I figured maybe they toast lightly, but this second time I specifically ask for extra toasted and still got the same result. Disappointing as this is the closest breakfast spot to my house.

I have been to Java Bean three times and ordered a Cappuccino each time. They sincerely care about making quality espresso beverages. They even ask if you want your cap wet or dry, great for those who like to customize. I recommend this place for anyone who wants good espresso in Ballard.

I chose this cafe over the highly rated bakeries next door as I was craving egg with my breakfast coffee. Coffee was great, bagel great, eggs a bit disappointing. Scrambled comes sliced in same size slices as the cheese. All felt a bit prefab to me. For the rest, i had a relaxed visit.

Great place just a little of Market St. Very cool environment with comfy seating. Small outdoor seating options if the weather allows. So far the service has been great. Coffee has been okay. Need more visits to give true evaluation of the drinks. Dog friendly!!!

Since the new ownership this place is amazing. During the summer time they open up the full length windows and you can sit inside and enjoy the breeze. The Diablo mocha is to die for! Customer serive is cheerful and fun and its a nice place to visit now.

Highly recommend as one of the last bastions of Seattles old time coffee houses.. Hey. Its pretty good coffee made by pretty good Baristas, this comment made by a pretty good guy in the coffee industry not affiliated with them.

Best service in Ballard, and very consistent quality. A total gem! Pastries (not made in house) are decent but go here for the coffee and calm atmosphere. The owner is really nice and has a great memory for repeat visitors.

Ive been coming here for years and the new owners are doing a great job. Many of the baked goods are now from the excellent bakery accross the street. On a cold wet day, there is a warm gas stove to sit by.

I was going to give this place two stars mainly because the service can be slow and I dont like the coffee -- two important areas. I give it an extra star for great breakfast sandwiches and baked goods.

So good! I forget the name of the bagel sandwich I got but it was a bit spicy and had Mamas lil peppers - do yourself a favor and get it! Latte was good. Almond croissant was great. Cute place.

Great coffee shop. I love the Mole & Vienna their specialties. The pastries & evens are great. New owners and new look in progress but keeping a bit of the old decor. Highly recommend!

Just finished a work out at Fitness 19 and stopped in to grab a coffee and lunch. They had organic coffee, and a fine selection of paninis. Great service too!!!
