Unfortunately, I live on the wrong side of the sound ... or do I? If I lived anywhere near Poulsbo, I would go to Sluys every day and probably blow up like a balloon. I have lived from border to border and coast to coast and this is my favorite bakery anywhere. Its not just the great variety they serve, but it gives me the opportunity to relive my childhood eating the breads and pastries my Swedish Grandmother used to bake. Limpa rye bread, caramelized pecan rolls, Danish pastries filled with almond paste and covered with sliced almonds. YUMMY!!! They also are the originators of Poulsbo Bread that takes its roots from biblical times. Many people rave about their donuts, but I can get great donuts many places. The closest bakery to this is Larsens in Ballard, but even they dont have they variety of Sluys and all the other Scandinavian bakeries in Ballard have closed. This is my bright spot on the Olympic Peninsula.

Epic is the only way to describe the goings on at Sluys! The birthplace of Poulsbo bread and one of those places that you just need to try to say youve been there. Classic Nordic signage outside and deliciousness inside. The monster donuts are seriously rad, big as your head and great to share. The donuts shaped like little dudes - Doughboys - (its like gingy from Shrek, but puffy!), the glazed donuts, the filled donuts...you straight up cant go wrong. Likewise, the happy/sad cookies are not to be missed and allow you both simultaneously enjoy baked goods and show your emotion, regardless of your mood - seriously. try them, theyre legit. Sluys is one of those places you need to try and thats worth making the trip across the water to do so. On a nice day, grab a coffee, saunter on down and enjoy a little slice (or fried ring) of heaven, youll be happy you did.

Lived in Poulsbo 7 yrs, Sluys2x. very expensive but they cater to tourists. Not friendly (see1) but one of their front staff is miffed because I refuse to deliver her miss-delivered mail to her front porch (and very, unfriendly, biting German Shepherd. I tried to explain that may be why all her mail, Fedex, & UPS ends up on our stoop. Does not compute. )SO loves their donuts. Still overpriced and since Sluys own most of the block outright, lots of our quaint businesses are going under due to the rent increases. Sad place for retails startups.

As an ethnic Norwegian, I truly appreciate the unique Nordic village feel and look of Poulsbo. As for the businesses within the town, such as Sluys Bakery, I feel there is a missed opportunity of offering more Nordic pastries, like Larsens, Nielsens and Byen Bakeri bakeries in Seattle. Perhaps Sluys offers good quality baked goods, but when they do not offer cardamom bread and rolls all year round and more importantly marzipan cake, you become just another common generic bakery.

Locals say it has the best pasteries. Its the best in the area. They have great, unique donuts. I really like their coconut crunch sticks. Its a donut stick coated with sweetend toasted coconut. I really like cake donuts, but theirs is moist instead of dense. Head over there on Mondays before 11am for free drip coffee with the purchase of a donut. It wouldnt be a trip to poulsbo if you didnt stop by.

Always good! Although the employee didnt seem to even want to be there. Very rude and complaints about being at work. Would serve him well to get a job at Voodoo donuts since they get paid to be that way! ANYWAY the pastries were as always delicious! Worth the drive. Went to the park just across the way and enjoyed the yummy pastries and amazing view.

Im from Soldotna Alaska home of "Sluys" sister bakery "The Moose is Loose". It is one of my favorites. Its wonderful to have found "Sluys Poulsbo Bakery". A little piece of Home away from Home. They even make "Road Kill Cinnamon Rolls" I believe the locals here call them "Cinnamon Crisp" Love this Place 5 Stars

Sluys is legendary to me. My family goes by it whenever we get the chance and failure to pick up something for the entire family can end with some very angry people. Whenever me and my dad go by we pick up chocolate milks and donuts, best snack for when youre on the road to Silverdale or Bremerton

The pastries were delicious! The people behind the counter were very nice as well. I can see why this place is booming. I got 2 gingerbread man looking donuts and my friend got an apple pie. Oh my that was on of the best apple pies I have had in a long time. That crust was buttery and crunchy!

Absolutely wonderful! Real ingredients, not mystery creams and gels. No odd coating in our mouth from bad oils. Not at all health food or even organic, but as far as bakeries go, this is about as good as it gets. Great, old-fashioned selection. Real cream cheese frosting! Has that tang :)

There is a line. That being said the wait is worth it. Everything is good! Every day they switch out items, and make something else really delicious. Dont worry the popular items are there everyday. If you enjoy trying new things coming every couple days to try different baked goods.

I grew up going here. Definitely the best bakery on the peninsula, but unfortunately there arent many bakeries on the peninsula to compare it to. Ive enjoyed everything I ever bought from them. A little on the pricey side, but that doesnt stop me from going whenever I get a chance.

Food is yummy. (No gluten-free options here in case you are looking, for some reason this is the first bakery that pops up when you search in thw area for GF) Customer service usually is good, but not consistently whether in person or phone, should try working on that.

LOVE Sluys bakery....prices for 12 dozen was less than $11 which is pretty good. Plus is love their viking cup!! mmm! Yet their employees are always so snotty and stick their nose up like their better than you, makes me not want to go there as much as my tastebuds do!

They offer an amazing array of generously sized pastries and breads. Its a cornucopia of earthly delights including Norwegian cookies and pastries that have to be seen to be believed. My favorite is the chocolate Viking doughnut thats about 8" across. Yum.

In a tourist town, where most of the restaurants were empty off-season, this place was full of folks having a good time. Good beer, good brats, ok service (friendly but a touch slow). Its clearly where a lot of people prefer to the "showplaces" in town.

Went there for the first time today. Their selection was amazing! The service was so friendly... and I couldnt believe how good the prices were. Then I tried the doughnut I chose - YUM! Instantly a favorite place, so I had to share my thoughts. :)

You cant go to Poulsbo without a stop at this wonderful bakery. You can catch a scent of it blocks away. Wonderful donuts, pastries, cinnamon rolls and bread. Dare you to walk in there and not find at least one item that you have to have.
