Had lunch there for the first time the other day with my wife and 2 friends. Everyone enjoyed the food. BUT, there was one major problem: The Tip (aka gratuity). You begin the process of standing at the counter and ordering your food and if you pay by credit card you are asked (via the card console) at the beginning of the dinning process, for the amount of tip you want to pay for the service you have yet to receive. Then you go find yourself a table, go to the island and get your silverware and cloth napkin. If you want some water, you go to the island, get a glass and fill it with water. Your meal is brought to the table for you. When you are finished, you must bus your own dishes and put them in a tray under the island. Now, the paying of a tip is meant as a thank you for the service provided. Where in any of the above description is there any indication of service being provided? Rather than the restaurant asking for a tip at the beginning of the process and providing absolutely no service, the management should just jump their high prices by 15 - 20% more. My suggestion: If paying by credit card, indicate no tip. And then at the end of the dinning process, if a tip for service is warranted, leave some cash with the dishes at the table. This is not a place I will return to or recommend to my friends.

I adore this little bakery. The first time I ever visited I ordered a special item of that particular day, which was a croissant (theyd made only an hour or so earlier Id gathered), some egg and a tomato. It was ever so basic, and amazingly tasty. Great food, locally sourced when possible it seems, that isnt drown in sauces or salts to make things taste like what they arent is a dream, and very hard to find. So yeah, that was fabulous. Let me try and describe their croissants perfectly. Theyre like cracking an egg shell, crispy, almost burnt on the outside, and then nearly liquid warm and soft inside. They unravel like a Christmas present every morning. The environment of the cafe is spectacular as well. Leftovers from when this was some type of an auto shop mix with prayer flags and eccentric paintings. Businessmen and tourists and young families fill the tables. Small children play with wooden toys in a corner dedicated just to them. All the while, the massive windows display freight ships making their way up the Columbia and the rest of Astoria moving around its morning routine. Comfortable, tasty, and local. Pretty hard to beat this place for coffee in Astoria.

I live in Astoria. I have had some of their bread before, so I tried their gluten free bread. My previous experience with their bakery products has been terrific so I decided to go ahead and try their gluten free bread - $10 for the loaf. She asked me if I wanted two. Im so glad I just got one. It wasnt any better than the bread I try to make at home and toss in the garbage. I was really looking forward to the mouthwatering product Id had previously (not gluten free). Its a very heavy, thick bread, so if you like that kind of gluten free bread go for it. Im all for Udis that I can get at the grocery store for half as much money. Even though I dont like their gluten free bread - they are otherwise awesome.

I live for their Yam and Pesto Burrito. Ive always loved this place. Delicious bread, great atmosphere, happy staff. I have lots of wonderful memories from this place and theyre all well deserved. Its a great place to be a vegetarian too. Everything Ive tried has been delicious. Its a little pricy but if that keeps this place running the way it does, thats fine by me. I love to take home some day-old bread too when I get the chance. Still delicious, at a discount!

I rode my motorcycle all he way from San Francisco for this place! No, not really, but its fantastic and I highly recommend it. The 3 egg scramble is delicious and well made. The owner (I think) even asked me if my meal would be enough for me and offered some more bread. I know its just bread and butter, but that goes a long way and the gesture is worth more than item.

Blueberry cream cheese nested in a delicate Organic French pastry, cloth napkins, pint glasses for filtered tap, strainer in the pot tea, soft genteel music, handmade flower lamps, sealed crumbled cement, glossy sheen pine tables-chairs and yet everyone not talking 5 Apples one droid tap tap under the paper cut outs strung as Himalayan prayer flags. Magazine Rack!

Bakery from the gods. I love EVERYTHING about this place. The tempeh reuben is one of the best youll have. The views, the seating, the service...even the green tea tastes better here. They have lots of yummy pastry options- all wholesome and organic. I eat here every time Im on the coast, sometimes more than once. Their breads and vibe are soul satisfying.

Absolutely a must-visit if you are passing through Astoria!! We stopped here recently for breakfast on our trip along the Oregon coast and it left such an impression on me. Fresh, delicious food. Wonderful, calm, refreshing atmosphere! Perfect for families. Dont leave without stocking up on their oat cakes for the road! YUM!! Five stars!!

The food was great. I fell in love with everything on the menu. I had to quit going there because thier pushing far left political agenda was actually nauseating. I only eat organic and wish I could enjoy their food. Maybe somebody will open another Organic Bakery/Cafe - and I will be their #1 customer.

Good, healthy food and happy, friendly service in a laid-back environment. Id love more gluten-free options (theres a lot of tempeh on the menu) but my meal was tasty and well-prepared. My poached eggs were perfectly cooked and had rich, yellow yolks. My vegetarian husband enjoyed his tempeh sandwich.

Average coffee that is overpriced. The portion sizes on all menu items are small and again overpriced. Maybe if they had table service they could justify those high prices but they dont. The quality of the food is good just not a good value. I would stop in for a pastry but not stay for a meal.

My favorite coffee shop in the world. Kids play corner. Vegan options for breakfast and lunch, coffee and baked goods. No worries about my noisy kids, it was noisy here in here before we arrived. Local organic food. Employees get paid a living wage. And a news stand with all the magazines.

Very good croissants. Fresh and crispy when you get them in the morning. Good coffee and you pay extra if you want refills. Friendly service but yes, you bus yourself. There is no table service. Nice open airy feel when you sit inside. They also have a few tables outside.

Hands down, the best espresso in Oregon. Not just Astoria, not even Portland...in ALL OF OREGON. Order a dry Americano and be joyous for the rest of your life. Always tasty pastries and a lovely atmosphere. This place makes me feel like Ive come home.
