Poverty Bay Cafe is one of the best family owned cafes in the area. Popular with locals, serves breakfast and lunch, with reasonable menu prices. The coffee is the biggest pull, they have excellent baristas, making it well worth the trip (and you might as well get a delicious home cooked style meal along with it). The food and the coffee may take a while to get to you depending on what time of day you go, but the wait is well worth it. If you have children or are an active Pokémon Go or Ingress player, youll be happy to know that the murals on the back of the building are poke stops/Ingress stops. So while you eat your meal, you can fill up on all those necessary items, such as pokeballs. My favorite breakfast from Poverty Bay Cafe is a 16oz. Breve Latte with the Scrambaby (a small breakfast sandwich with a scrambled egg, choice of cheese, choice of bacon or sausage, and choice of English muffin or a biscuit, with a small side of fresh fruit). The food takes time, but time with food is love, so I cant complain about that. Poverty Bay Cafe is well worth the time spent to sit and enjoy the bustle of the small cafe as the wait staff rushes back and forth fulfilling customers orders. It is the perfect stop for those who like to sit and people watch.

This isnt for the service we received, but rather for the service we DIDNT receive. Walked in, saw a line at the espresso bar for people ordering drinks, and stood in the dining area not knowing if we were supposed to wait to be seated or to seat ourselves. No signs anywhere. There was someone taking orders at the bar, someone making drinks, someone washing dishes in the back, and one waitress running around waiting on tables. The waitress mustve walked right by us three times without saying a word. I asked the barista if were supposed to just seat ourselves and he replied, "you order here, then sit down." We found a seat, scrambled around looking for a menu (also at the bar), and tried to figure out what we wanted. After a few minutes, we were surprised the waitress hadnt even brought us waters yet. Oh... Theres a water canister and water cups on the counter to help yourselves. So, it turns out you order your meal from a line, you serve yourself your own water... Do you have to cook your own meal in the back, too? The line at the bar only got longer, so we gave up and went to Black Bear Diner instead. Which, turned out to be a mistake as well. Chuck E Cheese meets Montana.

This was probably the worst experience Ive ever had at a restaurant/cafe. We didnt know you had to grab your own menus or self seatingbtill we had to ask a worker. The guy that took our order at the register was rude and didnt seem happy. We brought our friends from out of state because of the great reviews. It was pretty packed for a Tuesday but there was no excuse to wait over 2 hours for egg sandwices or biscuits and gravy. When we recieved our food my eggs Neptune was overcooked.. The salmon was like jerky and the egg yolk was all the way cooked and practically no hollandaise sauce. My significant others bacon egg sandwich was cold and the bacon looked burnt. Not only that we had a couple that ordered right before us, got their food, ate, and left before we recieved our food which was about 30 minutes after. The customer service was horrible. The only nice worker there was the buser girl and she kept on apologizing. We spent more than $60, waiting over 2 hours for food that was cold and overcooked. Not worth the money or wait.

I went in here with my family at 7:30 pm, the sign says theyre open until 8. We were not acknowledged by any of the staff, no one would even make eye contact with us. I went to the counter and asked if they were still serving and they said ... ummmm well I guess. I wonder if the owners know that their staff is busting their butts to leave at 8, not to close at 8. I said forget this and we left, a regular customer rushed out and apologized profusely and said they were never like this, she comes in all the time, she would be speaking with the managers about this. The best part, one of the members of my party is in a wheelchair, I bet ADA would love to hear about the staff completely ignoring a handicapped customer. Needless to say I will not be back and will not be recommending this to anyone. Very disappointed.

Just finished here at Poverty Bay after searching for good breakfast places in Federal way. PB was the top rated so had to check it out. I ordered the breakfast hash and my girlfriend ordered a regular omelet with drop coffee after hearing the reviews. The food was great and cant wait to try more of it. I love that you can choose your cheese and love how flavorful their food is. Very welcoming staff with big smiles, good coffee (will have to try their espresso drinks next time), expect a line and a little wait but I chock that up to everyone liking this place. Highly suggest stopping in and trying to anyone in federal way looking for a good bite.

My wife loves this place. I am still struggling to find a favorite drink, but this is a Federal Way secret. I am sure I will find a favorite. The prices are great! Cheaper than starbucks for more, also several choices that you might not find anywhere else. Its a little hidden, so it seems lots of locals fill the joint regularly. Staff is always friendly. Its just a little confusing as far as parking and ordering when your new. My understanding is if you plan to dine in, grab a menu and then get in line to order it. They will call your name when its ready, though there is seating there doesnt appear to be anyone solely devoted to table serving.

Horrible experience today, went for lunch and had to return our food because we were served our soup from the microwave and it wasnt even close to a servable safe temperature, it looked as if it was slopped into a coffee mug with lip stains on the rim. We ordered coffees, 2 different, and the barista couldnt remember which was which. The sandwiches were suppose to be warm and were served with cold meat inside. The facility was dirty with food on the carpet and the tables hadnt been bused. Some of these are basic health regulations. Not sure what happened to the place because this wasnt our first time, but it will be the last!

While I definitely like to support my local coffee shop, Poverty Bay has its up and downs. I love the coffee specials and the food, but the last 4 or 5 times Ive been there, if I pay for something in cash, theyll take my change and put it in the tip jar without my permission. Seriously? Ive found it so off-putting that Ive stopped going there. My tipping policy is that if youre actually nice to me, I give them a tip. Im not a huge regular customer so theyre not particularly friendly with me. They want me in and out. If you want a tip earn it, dont practically steal from me.

This place deserves negative stars. I waited 45 min for 3 sandwiches on a to go order. Only one of them was made correctly. And they didnt give me the chips or the pickle spears. They also made one again incorrectly. I had to have my sandwich redone three times before they got it right. When the kid gave me a refund he didnt say anything, didnt look at me, nothing. He hands me my card and starts to fiddle with some paper. I asked if that was all, if he was done? And he said "oh I mean yeah". Never once looking at me. Absolutely redicuouls. NEVER go here!!
