Comfortable quaint ambience, superb staff, with character and charm (and NO televisions---yay!). This historical site (The Tavern on the Square, plus other venues for food, drink, lodging, and entertainment, all under the McMenamins Anderson School banner) converted from one of Bothells first junior high schools, has become my new favorite restaurant with adjoining brewpub (with lots of televisions, pool tables, and other games), movie theater (that serves food, beer, and wine), hotel and indoor pool decorated in a tropical motif complete with pina coladas and appetizers. Ive since visited one other restaurant in the McMenamins family and look forward to someday spending a romantic weekend at their flagship site in Troutdale, Oregon. My wife and I dine at The Tavern on the Square at least once per week, sometimes thrice. I abhor crowds, so well often go for a midweek late lunch or early dinner. Not to say that The Tavern is crowded at mealtimes, but I love to get a table by the fireplace, which has always been crackling with a real wood fire. Theyve even offered to serve us at the sofa in front of the fire. Maybe next time. My wife loves the stained glass windows. I love the imaginative landscaping with native species, the lighting and decor (both inside and out), the salads, the seafood, and especially the wines. And Ive never had better service from wait staff.

Ive been to this establishment over half a dozen times and even though the drinks were over priced the service, the quality and the atmosphere made up for it. Tonight was different. I admit it has been a few months since I was last there but much has changed as far as service and quality. The servers seemed overwhelmed and unorganized; as if they were all new and hadnt gotten the full training yet. When I went to The Whiskey Hut (as I always do) I discovered they had taken The Revolver, my favorite drink, off the menu. When I asked about it I was told it was still available to order. Although when I asked for it in a bucket glass rather than a martini glass I was criticized by the bartender for "trying to make it more manly". Ive knocked over and dropped martini glasses in the past so I just feel safer with a different style of glass. When the drink finally came it was way too strong and very skimpy on any flavor other than bourbon. I assume because it was off the menu she was either out of practice with the drink or just didnt care enough to do it correctly. The drink was not worth the $12 I was charged for it. This was a classy place I could bring a date to, but it has lost its charm for me.

Great service tonight at Tavern on the Square. Minor mix up in the kitchen and after good conversation with server and manager the took care of the situation. What unfolded next was ridiculous on the part of a intoxicated customer. The people sitting at a table near to us complained about their drinks. The manager very politely and respectfully repeatedly tried to handle the situation, the male in the party was an extremely unpleasant individual (fill in you favorite expletive here), called the manager a very not nice word and then the manager politely asked them to leave. Then they left without paying A.K.A. theft or stealing, Last I saw was the manager trying to track them down as they fled the scene. I was impressed with the demeanor of the manager after taking the undeserved abuse from this ridiculous customer.

Excellent food and attentive service in a lovely atmosphere. Stayed at the hotel a couple of nights, and enjoyed a dinner and a breakfast at the Tavern. Steak and frites dinner special was fantastic, an excellent cut of tender beef cooked just as I wanted it, along with sautéed onions and a delightful and unique variety of mushrooms. The day we enjoyed their breakfast, I had a fresh fruit and yogurt parfait with granola that was billed as a starter on the menu, but was easily a full (and delicious!) breakfast based on the huge portion! The service was efficient and pleasant, and the staff were accommodating of gluten free dietary needs. Excellent place and would definitely return.

Great breakfast! Good food. Decor is typical McMenamins (eclectic assortment of lightning fixtures, huge fireplace, tables and booths around a central bar.) Outdoor seating at the propertys central courtyard. They also have another seating area/room. This is the main eatery for the Anderson school hotel. Theres also a tiki bar and lounge overlooking the swimming pool, and a more traditional pub through the courtyard (mentioned above.) Dont miss the shopping opportunity for everything from ice cream, beer and wine to swimsuits, tees and caps...even things to entertain the kids.

I love McMenamins, have for years, but this is not the same as the rest, trying to be trendy rather than just a good local pub with pub food. Food quality was fair, but not great, pasta was a small portion and the pork loin was very dry. Dinner was not an overall good value for what you get. $65 for 2 dinners with 1 beer each, should have been closer to $45 in my opinion based on the quality/quantity of the food we received. The place was packed on a wed night, but parking was available as seating was reasonably quick, service was decent. Beer was good as always.

As part of a visit with several friends, we had breakfast at several highly regarded restaurants on the East side as well as in Seattle. As much as I enjoyed them, I wish this one had made the list. The food was well executed across the board with only one minor slip. The dishes were creative (duck confit hash, for example) and ingredients first-rate. Service was prompt and cheerful, the restaurant was cozy. The only little slip was the apple in my wifes fruit had been cut on a board where the onion previously cut was not sufficiently cleaned off.

We enjoyed our visit to the tavern. You will find lovely grounds as you enter the tavern. Inside, the décoré is lush and lovely. You may even find yourself wondering if you have passed into another time period. One highlight was the menu, which was quite different from most McMenamins locations. This was a welcome change for us. We enjoyed the Waygu beef burger which was cooked to order. No tots on the menu! Imagine that.

Except for a screaming child behind us the experience was wonderful. Waitress was well informed and helpful in out order selection. The food was great. My goat cheese revioli was very good. All it needed was some good Italian bread to clean up the plate. My guest had one of the pizza and raved about it. Beer and wine selection was above average. I would recommend this place, minus the screamer.

Wife and I love this place. we go here for date night, but especially for breakfast. Thank goodness no one comes early for breakfast, lol. Its a hidden gem in the morning, opens at 7am, and while everyone else is lining up for at best some other "B" grade breakfast, we are getting A+ service and food. We love how quiet it is during the morning. We have a two year old, and they accommodate her really well.

Been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner many, many times. Never, not even once, had a bad experience or food problem. The staff is personable and attentive. The food is delicious always and very reasonably priced. Im always happy to catch a meal at the Tavern before I head to the theater to watch a film or after work with a beer or two.
