I got married last month & used Blackbird Bakery for our wedding cake. The cake was a big deal to me for this wedding and I wanted it to be perfect. I did a ton of research & talked with several bakeries before choosing them. They are always prompt in their responses & so helpful! They did a wonderful job in making this an amazing experience for me. During our consultation, they gave us free beverages & cut a full piece of each of the three kinds of cake we chose for us to try. All of them were delicious. (The place was packed which also made me feel good because it means people like them.) While we were sitting there, we had other customers approach us to tell us that Blackbird Bakery had also done their wedding cake & had nothing but spectacular things to say. Also, during our consultation, Erika was so great. We met with her back in January & she was a pleasure to work with over the next nine months. When our wedding day finally arrived, the cake was everything I hoped it would be & more. It was a custom creation designed around the invitation & it was flawless. My new husband & I could not have been happier with their job. We chose two different flavors to use: their chocolate & the three berry. Both were delicious! I highly recommend them to everyone who needs a bakery for anything. I definitely plan to use them in the future whenever I can! I truly have no complaints whatsoever about my experience with this bakery & have only the highest compliments to pay them!

We have yet to find a many great bakeries on the Eastside so this bakery made my husband and I tempted to make this our Sunday brunch routine--ferry, exercise to bakery, binge on amazing quality and selection of carbs-o-rama. So my husband and we ladies opted for roasted beet soup with thick, yeasty slices of oatmeal bread while the boys lunched on white bean and roasted vegetable chili. Then we shared a savory caramelized pear, gorgonzola, and toasted walnut tart and a dark, spicy slab of gingerbread laced with whiskey. The kids found room for slabs of dessert trio: Double Chocolate Cheesecake. Hazelnut Torte with Cream and Grand Marnier Snow Ball Cake (two chocolate layers wrapped in cream and coconut). Not surprisingly, the kids werent able to finish and even with our help, large mounds of desert remained. Yep, its a bakery after my own heart. Now, a la Claim Jumper, bigger is not always better with their mediocre to plain disgusting desserts, but if you can make something really yummy and make it large enough to share, yep, youve got me. Furthermore, prices seemed reasonable to cheap compared to bakeries Ive been to of the same caliber in the Napa Valley or San Francisco. Verdict: Blackbird Bakery is a must visit on a trip to Seattle/Bainbridge Island. Yum!

I am BLOWN AWAY by the goodies at Blackbird Bakery. Seriously, folks, this is from-scratch perfection. I was baking professionally before I moved to Bainbridge, and can be quite picky with my baked goods (I dont like overly-sweet, fake-tasting, sugary commercial stuff). Everything Ive had here is truly fabulous. They are often busy, especially on the weekends, and the place is packed with locals - thats how you know their stuff is good AND they have high product turn-over rate (which means you always get fresh stuff!). The apple mezzalunas are a MUST TRY - one of the best turnover type pastries Ive ever had - intensely flavored, very flaky, homemade flavor. Really impeccable. My spouse loves the Helens French Rolls (which are tender, and like a sugar-cinnamon doughnut in muffin-form). Other favorites of mine: the savory croissant (filled with cheeses and herbs, really flaky and buttery, just the right blend of flavors, a hint of onion) / the lemon bread (just tangy enough, really fresh, a tad sweet but still nicely balanced) / pies and tarts! (awesome crust) / italian cream cake is to die for (really nutty and tender crumb, creamy filling, and fresh with the berries and a hint of alcohol). TRY IT! You wont regret it! Thanks blackbird - you rock!

*** In Short *** Decadent and deliciously rich (mostly) traditional American pastries. *** In Depth *** We showed up a little hesitant, with all the mixed reviews for Blackbird, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. While my friend stuck with a simple scone for breakfast, I went for something a little warmer and more savory, getting their potato cheddar quiche, which was, as youd expect, dense, yet soft, but enjoyable either way. I also nabbed one of their chocolate chip cookies and pecan walnut brownies to go, which I slowly nibbled away at over the next two days. If you enjoy really rich and dense traditional pastries, these are definitely for you, with both packing a bunch of chocolatey goodness. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - Two entrances, one with steps, and the other without, so dont show up thinking they arent accessible! Once inside, youll find an assortment of regular tables, and many more booths. I found that I could roll right up under the end without trouble, but your mileage may vary. Bathroom - Didnt try them.

The best of a number of small coffee places along Winslow way. They consistently have really good brew, good teas and, drumroll please - Orange rolls! Our favorite site in the shop however were the cupcakes with hamburger shaped frosting! - A little steep at $4.59 a shot, but worth it for the experience! Good spot to chillax and sit with friends at whilst enjoying your favorite caffeine fix. Ample seating and a good selection of magazines/papers to browse while there. Solid local shop and worth checking out.

The coffee is good and they have a small selection of baked goods for people with food allergies. Like many places in Winslow they are a little overpriced. The reason I dont rate them higher is because there is no wi-fi, hardly any seating indoors, the seating is uncomfortable, and there is only street parking which is always crowded. These are all important aspects for a good coffee shop, which this one is lacking. I would mostly recommend it for a coffee and snack to go if you are in the area.

Coffee great! GF bread not so. The tall young gal, with the dark can really pull some great shots! The gluten free rolls had a good crust and texture, but were too salty. We went to buy a loaf of gluten free bread. We were told that they need 48 hours notice, for such. I had viewed their web site, prior to driving an hour, to get there. I did not notice such a requirement.

Always busy on weekends, but line moves relatively quickly and there is not seating outside. Excellent choice of naked goods and espresso drinks, plus soup and other beverages. Dont know why the description says cash only, because they take credit cards. Also have punch cards.

I love the staff here, everything was made from scratch and they never skip on special requests. Unless youre picking items from the day old basket (marked at half price), everything is made that day. Its also a very relaxed environment! I just wish that they had more seating....

Truly an island favorite. The croissants are perfect and the brand muffin is seriously the best you will ever have, forget the fact that it is a brand muffin its a good freaking muffin. The coffee is great too and much better than what you would find at the giant green mermaid.

The food is SO GOOD (as is the coffee) that I cannot bring myself to give it 4 stars because of the spotty service - grumpy staff up front about 50% of the time...but your pastry, quiche, or cookie will sweep that right outta your mind!
