It was my first visit and......IDK, maybe my taste buds were off or something-but Im not sure what all the hype is about. Sure, the sandwiches are ginormous in size but thats pretty much it. I think the outrageous size of the sandwich---two thin slices of the bread stuffed with layers and layers of meat is what attracts people to this place . But for me there really was no substance, no flavor, just meat!! (I had corn beef and beef brisket with swiss on rye) My tab for 1 sandwich NO SIDES was $18 (not including tax and tip)--a little on the expensive side which I wouldnt have mind so much if I actually enjoyed my sandwich. I probably would have done better with a $5 foot long at Subway. I didnt eat the whole thing-packed the rest to go and gave it to my BF. It really wasnt his thing either. His critique: "it was too much going on between 2 slices of bread." LOL! It can truly be said that if you love lots meat... this is the place for you! The service was good, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Since it was only my first time so I will give Route 58 the benefit of the doubt, esp since so many folks seem to love this place. I did try a small portion of my friends Knish and that was pretty tasty. But to be honest, the chances of me going back to drop another $20 on a sandwich are probably slim to none. I do have a $15 dollar Groupon for this place so I may splurge that on some desert.... that carrot cake and cheese cake sure looks tasty ( and it better be for $10 a slice, a gigantic slice of course-just like the sandwiches). 3 stars==it was just ok for me probably wouldnt run tell my friends about it or anything. All in all, a decent experience-just not my thing. If the meat had some flavor I may have been a little more satisfied. But hey, check it out for your self! Its a nice little locally owned establishment... and others have given it great reviews! Oh and tasty, tasty pickles!! Yum! I sure did enjoy those pickles! Now I will def go back for those....hhhmmm wonder if the sell them by the dozen! Yea, they were that good! :)

Smoke & mirrors and kitsch do not make a “DELI”. Unfortunatley, all of the true delicatessens in the area, Reisners, Uncle Louies, and The Kosher Deli over the years have disappeared, taking with them a lost form of traditionally prepared meats. What has risen in the dust and ashes is Route 58 Deli, which should have stayed out of sigh, not the Phoenix. What it perpetrates to be is not. Anticipating a mouth-watering Corned Beef & Swiss on rye, instead, I was presented with a flavorless, devoid of any taste, dry slices of corned beef round on toast and a cheese that was as equally flat & non-descript that was cold and un-melted. In the past, TRUE DELI‘s of Norfolk like Reisner’s, Uncle Louie’s and the Kosher Place cooked and served traditional, spicy, bursting with flavor Corned Beef Brisket. What I was served was a flat, flavorless devoid of any taste corned beef round. The cheese on my sandwich was an equally flavorless white cheese devoid of the traditional sharpness of Swiss. Additionally the cheese was of such poor quality is had not melted on the meat after having supposedly been grilled, which it had not. How do I know?, there were no grill marks on the meat. Smoke & Mirrors, watch out for the extra charges on the $14.95 base price sandwich. They added on .99 for Swiss and .99 for grilling. My recommendation. If you are expecting a REAL Corned Beef & Swiss, do not come here. Stop by one of the top Grocery Stores; buy your meats and cheeses. Go home and make yourself a great sandwich. If it doesn’t matter to you then come to the Deli 58. Do not be wowed by the picture of a 3” of meat stacked between the bread.

EXPENSIVE!!! $10.99 for 1 slice of cake. $18 sandwiches. $5 side of fries. Youre stuck with soggy leftovers for days, bc even the largest of appetites wont finish these portions. This place sucks because you HAVE to share if you dont want to reheat leftovers and you have to want the same thing as the person youre with, of course. Not everyone wants to share their food with a casual friend or colleague. People rave about it and say its NYstyle...Well its NY money, too. Its insane...Why cant you get a NORMAL slice of cake for $3.99?! Why cant fries or vegetable or something come with the sandwich and make it an affordable combo that Im not stuck with for days. I had a Groupon and two people shared, but we got a cup of soup and side order of fries, so with the tip we paid $40 *on top* of the $25 Groupon. That is a ridiculous price for lunch (there are no lunch prices here, one menu all the time). So disappointed bc they had so many good reviews. Clearly, those ppl have a lot of money to blow eating out and enjoy soggy leftovers, mushy bread and hardened cheese sandwiches in their refrigerator for days.

I am sad to give this rating after coming here for years . The food is delicious however this last visit we had an awful experience with customer service. I came with my parents and grandparents as we have every time before. My grandparents had a separate groupon from my parents and I. Every time we have come over the past three years we have had our own groupings and did separate checks. This time however, the waitress refuses to do this and stated in order to use both groupons that are about to expire was to sit at separate tables. She made half our party sit at a different table so we could not all enjoy dinner together. Never mind trying to compromise and charge it to a different table. We will not be coming back here due to the lack of customer service. When a family comes out together of 5 people they would like to sit together and not have to talk across the restaurant to one another.

I go to route 58 ever time im over in vb, went there the other nite, I get it we came in at 7:45 and they close at 8, Ive work in restaurants for 10 years I know how it works but you never do what the cook did that nite. I order my Ruben and a side of fires like allways, I get my ruben no fires ask the waitress she goes and see the cook tell her it 8 and the kitchen is close are you kidding me REALLY we had a 3 person join us that want it some cornbeef on a pieces of rye could not even get that, no equipment should be turn off until its closeting time and everthing is severed you dont just not make the food, 70 DOLLOR bill after all and ruben was not even good like it is any other time I get it.The nite cook is a ASS and the owner should put leash on him,is that how you run ur business?
