We dined with 4 other friends last night and of course love the ambiance. The gal that waited on us was wonderful! We all had some adult beverages and appetizers to start which were all excellent! My husband, Bobby and I happened to order the same meal while everyone else ordered something different. Everyone said theirs was great! Except for mine and Bobbys meal. We ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad ~ with chipotle dressing. The salad was delicious! BUT NOT the chicken!! It tasted like wet cardboard! From the texture it seemed very apparent that it must have been frozen and zapped in a microwave before it was placed on our salad. Toward the end of our meal we notice that we both had eaten our salad but NOT the chicken ~ we both picked it out and pushed it aside. Bobbys was as dry and inedible as mine!! He mentioned it to our server, Linda who was a doll and she told the manager. The manager came to our table and said she was sorry and said shed give us a discount on our meal. That was not our intent. We mentioned it so the chef knew it was unacceptable and that he/she should rethink their chicken offering. We received the bill and a total of 20% had been taken off... $4.40 .... $2.20 per meal!?!? Why bother!?!? Its not the money but the principal. Were locals and dine out often. Our friends live in Ocean Park and dine at the Pier Cafe often. Well think hard and long before we visit again if this is the way they remedy a poor meal situation.

Not baby friendly and the management is rude!! Went there with my baby in her carseat. Looked like there wasnt going to be enough room- but the hostess said there was and brought us a carseat hammock. Which we placed at the table. After placing our order a waitress from another table said rudely and loudly to the table next to us that my baby was in the way and needed to move. I asked her where she felt I could move my baby to because babies usually stay at the table with their mom. She said she didnt know but my baby needed to move. After that we decided to leave as we didnt feel welcome. The poor table next to us apologized for her behavior and said that the waitress was rude and that it looked like the warden got angry. The table asked us not to leave but we chose to because of the scene she caused. On our way out we told the waitress that she was rude and made us feel umwelcome and thats why we were leaving- she explained that she was the manager and she was glad we were leaving because there was no room for my baby and kept going on about it. We finally had to tell her to stop talking she got what she wanted and we left. I will never go back there or recommend this place to anyone with small children.

Ive eaten at the Pier Cafe 2 times a year for the past 7 years, the food and service was always good until this year. Their crab cakes used to be the BEST in Virginia Beach. We ate there this afternoon 15 August 2015 and the crab cakes were absolutely awful Fishy smelling, off flavor and it was all claw meat, kinda like a crab cake you would expect to get from Long John Silvers. Absolutely the worst crab cake Ive ever had and a waste of I think it was $13.99 or $14.99. My wife got the fish and chips which was soggy and dripping with grease. The wait staff last year and this year were very unprofessional, eating and joking in front of the customers between taking orders. Very bad experience and will not spend that kinda money again for not even mediocre food.

So, we were not pleased at all with this place. The server spent way more time with other customers than us, whom appeared like locals who frequented the place. (And were probably big tippers) Their food all came before ours, even though we got them before any of them. All we got was a few sandwiches, and the fish and chips special, so you wouldnt think it takes that long. So, we were already displeased, and our tip reflected the poor service.... Then the waitress has the nerve to follow us to the parking lot and confronted me about the lack of a tip. Are you kidding me? She asked why we didnt tip, and I said because the service sucked, the food sucked, and this is further confirmation of why. Will NOT ever set a foot back in this place.

Never had a bad dinner here! This time while sitting outside on the pier overlooking the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay as it opens into the Atlantic Ocean, we decided to share a variety of appetizer plates and had the Oysters Rockefeller (12), bacon wrapped shrimp, a Caesar salad and a side of sweet potato fries! This is probably the best meal we have had here. The place is incredibly relaxing, has a great beach vibe and doesnt hurry you through a meal! Love it and will be back whenever we are in the area!

Extremely overpriced! Paid 55$ for pasta, caprese salad and 2 non-alcoholic drinks. Pasta was very poorly cooked. Caprese salad was fine, but small. The view is nice. Spent 2 hours there most of time waiting for the dishes. We got 3 small orange pieces instead of orange juice))

Truly the best kept secret in Virginia Beach! If you are looking for a casual seafood place right on the beach go to Pier Cafe. Been there atleast 20 times and never disappointed. Only downside is its seasonal but now that the weather is warmer we cant wait to go back.

Once again Bouchards did not disappoint us. The staff was on their game and the food is fabulous! Love going here when visiting Newport. Perfect spot for a special occasion. Make sure you call in advance for reservations. Bon appetite!

Pier Cafe is awesome! I love the Neptune Salad - loaded with crab and shrimp. Cool atmosphere - on the pier with a view of the water and beach. Great place for some awesome food and a cold one. Ive added photos
