Hidden in a strip mall location which has seen a number of restaurants open and fail, Tokyo Thai isnt (we hope) going anywhere any time soon. The sushi is excellent, easily one of the best sushi places in Hampton Roads, and the chef has a young, artistic aesthetic and flair not often found in the metro area scene. Also, their ginger salad dressing is one of the best I have tasted. The Thai food, particularly the Pad Thai and the curries, are delicious. Servings are generous enough to bring some home for tomorrows lunch. I have not tried the Chinese offerings, but they look good. The decor is Asian inspired, elegant without being pretentious. You dont need to dress up, nice/casual is fine. The music varies from classical to Asian pop and there are TVs showing sports and news tucked in corners. Neither is, blessedly, ever too loud. The sushi is a fantastic value as it is slightly less expensive than in the city. The Thai and Chinese dishes are also reasonable. The servers are pleasant and polite, speaking accented English well enough for the purposes. The owner is on site, running the front of the house. Tokyo Thai is easily my favorite restaurant in Smithfield and easily on par with Sushi Yama (in Newport News) as my favorite sushi place. They even turned me on to Thai food. If you love sushi, Tokyo Thai is not to be missed, even if you have to make a special trip.

DELICIOUS!!!!! Our waitress was a first class saleswoman. Tired, hungry, just wanted a little dinner after driving up from Charlotte, NC and Roanaoke, VA respectively,we were not looking for anything more than just food. But, our server sold us on her winning smile, personality and product knowledge. We had Sake, Thai Summer Rolls, Sweet Pea Sushi Roll (Vegaterian), Thai Iced Tea, our Entrees: Shrimp Pad Thai - melted in my mouth - best Ive had in 4 states, and Shrimp Chow Mein, if we had had room for dessert, we would have had that too. She sure tried to sell it to us. Quiet atmosphere, soft, dim, great for a much needed date night for a hard working couple before returning to work tomorrow. Full bellies will help us sleep well. We will definitely visit here again when in the area. YUMMY YUM YUM!!!!

I have eaten in the restaurant several times and ordered take out many times. And in the past it has been excellent. Last nights experience was not. I ordered take out, two orders of summer rolls they were both sticky and fell apart, sashimi was warm, one of the three dinners was not in the bag when I got home. I had to drive back to the restaurant to pick it up 45 minutes later they gave me the original dinner and the vegies were mushy. Not happy after working 60 hours this week I was looking forward to this dinner. I ask if it was the same meal and they said yes they kept it under a light. Not sure I will order here again.

Ordered fried rice w/chicken & vegetables, was told it would be a combo price, I said ok. When I got back to hotel to eat, it wasnt fried rice, regular rice! This is take out, no utensils, no napkins, and one yum yum sauce"sample" thats how little the container was for all that rice! Food lacked flavor/seasoning, needed more, manager on duty that night 5-1-17 wasnt understanding & was confused from when I first placed my order. Will NOt go back again, had a similar experience last year whenever I was here, but tried to give another chance.

I could not believe that Smithfield has this hidden gem in the back of this strip mall. I was visiting family in Smithfield 11/23/2012 and stopped for gas at the BP and had seen the restaurant, I love sushi and Thai food I had to eat there .Wow I am glad I did .I live in Delaware and wish that there were quality places like this closer to my home.I will be eating here every time I visit Smithfield. Only one complaint They need to get someone to dust the grass divider.You know what i`m talking about !

This is a good place to bring people who dont know much about Asian food. The food is good and Americanized to please a range of palates. Better sushi can be had down the road in Carrollton but Tokyo & Thai has some decent sushi, popular Thai dishes, hibachi and some Chinese food in a variety of options. Great for a family where everyone likes something different. The mayo and sauces are heavy on the sushi. The tea is good and they have a decent sake selection.

I have eaten in many sushi houses, There is nothing as good as this place in the entire tidewater area! Dont like sushi, there are plenty of options, and all of them are great. Pad Thai is a favorite of my wife and not only do they deliver on a great product, but instead they surprize with fantastic food!

Good food at a good price for a small town. Its refreshing to have something different in a town that hasnt varried in years. Service is good too, always cheerful and friendly. The sushi is very good and it is a great place for a quick lunch! I am pleased that it has opened in Smithfield!!

Will NEVER order delivery Again!!! Dining in was a Great experience! Small portion sizes for money spent! Nice takeout plastic containers. Did not mind the hour + wait time b/c I was looking forward to what I thought was going to be dine-in quality. I called and told them we were not happy.

The server was very slow and it took over 15 mins to get order and we had to remind him to get our drinks. The server could not help me The food was not bad but lacked favor. I will go back just to make sure it was not a one off issue. I was hoping this would be a better experience.

Ordered the Thai basil and curry chicken bowl. It was delicious! Could not eat it all. Would recommend! Just a hint of spicy. Ordered the duck roll as an appetizer they were yummy! Will be coming back soon. p.s. the service very friendly and quick.
