I would never give any place a 1 star review unless they deserved it. I was recently in the Roanoke / Salem area(s) A business associate and I called Shin Shin to order 2 general tsos chicken. We were approximately 10 min away from the restaurant. I was told the delivery would be in 30 min. No later no less. We went on talking and chatting and scheduling meetings and nearly 1 hour later, our 2 general tsos still had not been delivered. I called the restaurant immediately to ask what was going on. They said the driver could not find where were were and had to turn around. That would have been believable had we been somewhere difficult to find. We were at 1390 Southside Dr, Salem, VA Its a business centre. I told them to tell the woman who answers the door Jason ordered the food. I asked our door person, she said there had been nobody that knocked on the door. They also never attempted to call us. So it was just bologna. I just told the extremely rude lady on the other end I would be coming to the restaurant to help her out and do her a favor. Just pick up the food there and I told her I expected a discount for the inconvenience. When I got there she nearly exploded on me. She got very excited and insulted me. She said they tried very VERY hard apparently to find us but they could not. Then she said there would not be a discount and I would have to pay full price. I told her forget it and proceeded to walk towards the door. The lady said something about me not being a real man, and I was unable to give good directions. Basically personally attacking me and saying I could not give directions. In my opinion thats 1 very VERY weird lady. She seemed very well rehearsed in her you dont give good directions garbage...because she spewed it very well. This must happen to them a lot. She said that in english better than any of the previous statements that she seemed to be struggling to say. I am actually glad we went elsewhere, because when I got to the restaurant I was repulsed by the dirty appearance. There was a dusty piano sitting in the corner and there was papers and dirt scattered all across the floor. My opinion is that lady is the rudest and most unprofessional person I have seen in a while. I will never attempt to order from there ever again and strongly encourage others to go elsewhere. We enjoyed a buffet from Shanghai Restaurant up there street on Colorado for a decent price and the staff werent even half as rude as that strange lady. DO NOT GO HERE! Dont support this lady and her dirty restaurant!

I decided to try Shin Shin after getting tired of eating Shanghai down the street. Shin shin was really good but their service is absolutely horrible. I stopped here about 5 times in a 2 month period. I even brought my son with me on my 5th visit. 3 of those 5 times, there was a guy cooking, and when I wanted to sit down in the restaurant and eat my food, he would say *I have to make a delivery. You have to leave*. I like to sit and eat my food, thanks very much. If you cant accommodate me, Im going somewhere else. The guy here and his wife are also very weird people, and the guys wife asked me if my son was biologically my own son, or if he was adopted. Very off the wall type of question to ask a customer, or anyone for that matter. Especially considering you dont know me. I am sure they have lost a lot of good business because of their inability to accommodate their customers. Its kind of pathetic, actually. This place is probably more suited for take out, or delivery...even though they have tables. Doesnt make any sense why they have tables though, if you cant sit inside and eat. I will stick to going to Shanghai down the street and suggest others do the same. Or take a short drive to W Main St and get some China Wok. Skip this Shin shin place. I wont be coming back. Oh btw the guy never apologised for the bad service, and displayed a whatever *i dont care* attitude. He also left his daughter locked by herself in the restaurant. She looks 10 or 11 years old. She looks too young to stay by herself. Shes needs adult supervision. In my opinion its neglectful.

Mr Jason, by accident I saw your review, and I was shocked. I am the "strange lady" you mentioned in your statement, but I dont know what you were talking about in your review. You wrote your review about 10 months ago, but last summer I was out of the country for a few months. I couldnt image how I could have "insulted" you oversea? Are you sure that you called Shin Shin and not someplace else? Are you sure that I am the person you talked to? We are human beings, we make mistakes during our jobs. But delivering excellent food and service to our customers with respect is always our number one goal!

We ordered two meals delivery from this place and it took over two hours for it to get to our home. We called after the first hour and were assured that the driver was just leaving. An hour later and the driver still had not left, but assured that he was about to leave. Whether or not he actually shows up is yet to be determined. Skip out on this place and go for another Chinese restaurant. ZERO STARS

like all the other positive reviews i give this place five stars the lady is really sweet even though she could use some better English when taking orders they are prompt in delivering and they even remember my address and what i order all the time i think they could lower there minimum delivery charge though honestly all in all i give them a five star rating

EXCELLENT! Weve been using Shin Shin delivery for about 5 years now and the longest we have had to wait is one hour and thats rare. They have always called back if there is going to be a delay. Normal delivery time is 1/2 hour. Excellent food & service. RECOMENDED!

Not bad. Shin shin is terrible at delivering though. They also dont really remember their customers. Thats ok though. The woman here tries really hard and her husband tries too.

One of my favorite places around to get Chinese from. Their food is absolutely delicious, and they have great prices and service. Easily my favorite General Tsos around Salem.
