Old school Italian atmosphere. Frank and Dean crooning in the background. Lights dimmed. The scene is set. Menu provides all the classics, pizza, lasagne, spaghetti, calzones. Not an upscale place, but a place you can show up in jeans and a t-shirt and enjoy a great meal. The waitress was running solo. It is Wednesday. Its busy, but shes not frazzled and is managing nicely and is kind and attentive. I ask her opinion, the lasagne seems to be the crowd favorite, so I order with a side salad and a Peroni to wash it down. The beer comes quickly, followed by the salad. The salad is ample with fresh greens and lots of veggie toppings. The bleu cheese is house made. The lasagne arrives on que, just as the salad is finished. Steaming and very aromatic. The portion is just right. I am told it is home made and by the look and taste of it, I agree. Nice sauce, pasta cheese ratio. Nice smokiness making me think of baking in same oven with pizzas and marrying some of the flavors. I finished my meal feeling satisfied, but not miserable. Still, no room for their few dessert options. I see wine and cocktails on the menu as well, including a Limoncello Margarita and a citrus sangria. Ill try one next time, and maybe the spaghetti. Eventually Ill get through the menu, as I look around at everyone elses plate and covet what they have. Oh yes, I will be back to this unknown gem that really preserves the Italian experience

Honestly, the worst experience I have ever had at any given restaurant. Ive already talked to the manager and he seemed very friendly. But the server we had was poorly trained and flat out lied to us about not having something because she did not want to go to the back and get it for us. We had coupons for free breadsticks and insead of simply going and telling the manager we had coupons, she took the easy way out by lying to us. The pizza was alright, a little too greasy for my taste, but the four teenage boys I was with seemed to enjoy them. This waitress needs to be let go because she is clearly not the right person for this job. She was very unfriendly, unhelpful and flat out rude. I will not be returning.

I take 30% of the blame for not looking over my calzones before leaving, but when I got home they were dark and very overcooked. I had to call back, then use my valuable gas and time to return them. I dont understand how any employee thought they were fit for human consumption. The manager apologized, but most really good businesses will comp the inconvenienced party something for their trouble. This one didnt even mention it. I used a Groupon for this purchase, but I would have been livid had I paid full price for this garbage. Al Dente never has to worry about me patronizing their establishment again.

Very good Italian at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere with great sevrice. Beer on tap was very cold and delicious with our lasagna and fresh garden salad. The lasagna was outstanding, not a bowl of soup like many other restaurants, but actually a substantial meal with good pasta, meat, chesse and very thick sauce. The baked cheese on top was exceptional. Comes with Italian toasted bread and freshly grated parmesan on the side. They offer full srvice, take-out and party trays on request. Good location in SW county with ample parking space and good handicap spaces! We will go back.

Went to lunch today with my husband. Very impressed with quality of food. This is a family owned restaurant and it appears most everything is made from scratch. This is not high end dining but family oriented and very reasonably priced. We had a small garden salad and small Caesar salad. Garden salad was better than the Caesar, but both very good. Wonderful pepperoni bites with cheese served with a delicious homemade sauce. We split and italiano sandwich that was great. Bread was light and toasted perfectly. Definitely going back.

The sign says it all, it really does make you want to come back for more! We visited there after passing by and decided to try something new. The pizza was awesome, so we made a second visit a few weeks later with our kids. We ALL loved it! The pasta and almost everything there is made on site and fresh daily. Very flavorful food and great staff. A new fav for our family!

Wanted to try out a new restaurant with my friend so we purchased the groupon and got a take out order. The pizza was the same quality as chuck e cheese and was so greasy. We also got the pepperoni bites which were simply just sad with no flavor and had very little pepperoni. Wont ever be going here again and Im glad we didnt pay full price for this subpar food.

So far all Ive tried are the pizzas and calzones. Both are fantastic: some of the best pizza Ive ever had and I consider myself a connoiseur. My only suggestion: replace that Hometown Family Cooking sign with an Al Dente one! I want to be sure people can find Al Dente so they stay around a long time.

Please go there. My wife and I went and the service was fantastic and the food was delicious. We have a lot of turnover in restaurants in Roanoke and this building specifically. I suggest you support a local business and choose Al Dente.
