I am surprised at the bad ratings. I have found the food to be very good and fresh. I have had several of the typical South Indian dishes (masala and mysore dosa, idli) and snacks and enjoyed the food. The pastries were very fluffy and are made fresh in-house. The prices are moderate by my standards - we recently paid about $66 for 6 people and we had more than one dish per person and drinks (mango lassi). Service is pretty good for a cafeteria / self serve type place. The cashiers were always polite and helpful when we were new. If the place was close to my residence, I would be going there more than one time a week and we do not eat out regularly!

Mixed bag . Good and bad re food , cost , friendliness. Folks eatting there very friendly . Will need to go a few more times maybe to get fully acurate opinion. It is chain store which is some problem . I was looking for south indian food nirvana but that is more a fantasy than a reality. Lunch meals could have wider choices in tali plates so as to taste various dishes not so expensively . So i feel they need to open up better options for tasting various dishs and have an indian sweets platter dish . Chai should be free refills . If i go again i will update . PS grocery store near by was big w some nice items .

We have been going to this place for a few years. We have noticed both the quality and quantity of the food going downhill. They close at 9:30 on weekends, which to a normal person means that they stop taking new customers at that time. Apparently, closing time is defined differently here. They tell people to hurry up and finish their food as the staff needs to leave! About the only thing we order here are dosas. The filling is only warm, not hot. Once, it was actually cold and it had to be sent back to be warmed. The staff is courteous, but the owner is not to be seen.

Overpriced food, small quantity. Even though the quality of the food is OK, the quantity is too small to fill you up. I have been there couple of times because sadly, this is the only Indian fast food joint in the area. Other than dosa, the quantity of each item is small. Be prepared to spend $15-$20 if you are there for a meal. One time we went there just 15 minutes before closing. We ordered dosa. The sambhar they gave with the dosa looked like they rinsed their pot with water and gave us that. Havent been there since.

I enjoy coming here for the occasional strawberry pound cake or almond cookies. Both pastries were of high quality and the staff are very friendly. They are knowlegable of their product and were able to advise me according to certain food allergies. A good place to pick up some pastries for a study group or even the local municipal workers. The coffee I had once was decent. Next time I go back I will be looking for an inspirational tea blend.

We went to Indian Pastry House today and bought two masala dosas for $13.09 including tax. We feel sorry to say that sambhar was just daal water, no ingredients. Dosa itself was horrible - hard crust and masala just crushed potato - no ingredients. When complained to cashier, he said he cannot do anything. So decided not to come again after such bad stuff and experience.

This is the worst restaurant we have ever visited. We did order Poori Chana and it seems that they had served from yesterdays Leftover food. They are even over priced but it doesnt hurt if you are getting good food quality. When asked to restaurant team member about food quality they had served, they didnt even listen & care about our concerns.

Polite service... I ordered hyderabadi damm biryani $10. Tea was $2.5. Expensive price for Richmond. I couldnt taste anything but peppers. It was very peppery got my palette and tongue numb. Quality was fresh and quality was good. But too pricey. Yes I would go there again if I pass through Richmond Again.

This is one of the best places to go for an evening snack. Not very expensive. we have been there a lot of times, and tried different items each time. And we were not disappointed at all. They have a small Bakery with pasteries, puffs, south indian snacks, chaats, etc.. we will be a regular visitor there.

I am surprised at the poor ratings that this place has. It is a basically a very good tasty cheap snack food shop. If ones going in there to expect 5 star restaurant quality of service then that is the individuals fault. Btw the food here is very tasty for the price. Definitely a good snack food shop!

The pastries are expensive but good. Dont think of ordering cakes as the will charge $ 40 dollar for a half pound cake. Snacks are horrible and are cooked in dalda. Most of the time the snacks are stale. The lady at the counter has a pathetic attitude and needs to learn some basic manners.

We were here for lunch, dinner and lunch next day when discovered it for first time. Love the breakfast options they have. But the chutney and sambar quantity they give is very less, ofcourse they are friendly to bring another cup when asked. But really dont want to do that Everytime.

I went there last week to eat snack and bought 2 puffs, god they didt even made that week. Seems like they never through food, even if they cant sell in a week. Cakes are double price than same size cakes in HotBreads in Washington. If possible avoid going to this place.

Worst service. Ordered a cake for my sons birthday and paid in full. Went to pickup the cake 1 hour before the party started , the shop was closed. They never called and informed the same. Had to struggle at the last minute to get a birthday cake. Never trust.

this place is super overpriced, you can go to any other indian pastry house(HOT BREADS) and pay less then half th price. quality of food is just awful. staff is ok. found fungus on their pastries not once but twice in 4 months. will never go back again.

They made my wedding cake, was delicious! Was on time and very professional. Very affordable compared to most places. It was a three tier with different flavors for each level and turned out beautiful. Thanks to everyone at the bakery you guys are great!

Awesome south Indian food, like things you wouldnt find in the "typical" Indian restaurants in the area. Great prices too. We had a dosa, biryani, and dahi puri, and everything was delicious. Wish I lived in Richmond so we could go more often :)

You have to try the Curried Chicken Pizza. I enjoy freshly made food and this item was worth the wait. It was freshly made, spicy and tasty. When I go back again I will try their pastry. I do recommend here for delicious Indian food.

The food is all prepared by mexicans who dont speak any English, and the taste is just wrong. The puri is soaked in oil, and if you try to ask their workers for anything, they dont understand English at all.
