Been hyping my family up for weeks by announcing that we are going to Bottoms Up Pizza! Yayyyy! After hearing good things about it, figure it was time to find out myself. Went there with my wife and children ages 13, 17, and 22 years old, so you have 3 young people who are prime candidates for pizza tasting, right!? Waited about 35 minutes (too long) for a thick and thin crust pizza with the 3 types of meat on it. TOTALLY DISSAPOINTED! And after all the hype and good reviews I got from friends about this place. Are you kidding me? The crust tasted like crackers, and not just the thin pizza...both pizzas. Could NOT taste the meat, except for the hamburger. The sauce was like spaghetti sauce. Just a bland salty overall taste. Got appetizers of 8 pieces of chicken with the red sauce that was too sweet. No soft drinks, everybody had water. Total tab...$52.00!!! Heres the clincher...everyone ate one slice and "threw in towel". The waitress came by and asked was everything OK and my wife let he know dearly and politely that it wasnt. After we voiced our dissatisfaction, we thought that was it. However, the manager approached (without our requesting) and offered to take the price of the pizzas off the tab. I guess because he saw the evidence was plain to see as we combined both pizzas together and it looked like they never been touched. No doggy bag on this one. Ive had better pizzas for $10.00 each. Oh how I long for a genuine New York style pizza...in Richmond! The lesson learned here is, "Dont go by what people say about it, try it yourself"! Giving it the benefit of the doubt, Im pretty sure that the place as a whole was not bad. Very crowded, very busy, polite staff, so thats a good sign.

I like their Pizza. However, the last few times we have been the service has sucked. Weve been left waiting at the hostess stand for some time and had several people that work there just walk by. One group walked out because a server never showed to their table. On Saturday (9/8/2014) a group of us ordered a few pizzas for delivery and split the bill between two cards. They called us 20 mins after the order was placed to say both of the cards didnt work. So they never started our order. We told them to run my card for the whole bill. We asked when the pizza would be delivered, we were told another 45 mins. So we decided to pick up the order instead because they said the pizza was done, they were just waiting on the driver. My husband picked the order up, Again no one was at the hostess stand for a while. Took 15 mins to pick the pizza up from the back. The next day the other person that was splitting the bill with me said they were charged twice for their half, on a card that supposedly didnt work. This place has seriously gone down hill. Management needs to get rid of these workers and hire some more competent people. How hard is it to run a credit card number through a machine?

Waited a long ass time for the food. I understand our group is large and it takes time. I used to work in a restaurant that made burgers, steaks, sandwiches, fried food, pizza and desserts. So I know how to gauge a wait time for good. And the wait was exagerated. Everyone was aggravated waiting on the food. Then once the food finally arrived it looked AMAZING but from first to last bite all I had were complaints. All the pizzas tasted the same, and the flavor was the flavor of tap water. There was NO FLAVOR AT ALL. Same with the pastas, we had 2 shrimp and crab and 1 cheese pasta (alfredo sauce). The alfredo doesnt even taste like store bought alfredo. And defiantly doesnt taste like home made alfredo. Pasta wasnt al-dente, crab and shrimp didnt have separation of the flavors. It tasted like straight old ass crab. Over all the was way below expectations and for the price this is a HUGE let down. VERY VERY disappointed. And on top of all of that the waiter give attitude when you as for stuff and be giving people dirty looks. Rude service plus ass food equals shity restaurant. Dont come to this place. Thank you for reading have an amazing day eating somewhere else!!

I was looking for an alternative to Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Dominos and every other chain pizza restaurant... and I got one. Here goes the good and the bad... The Good: Ingredients- The ingredients on the Meat Master and Mexican slices that I ordered were fresh and tasty. Chicken Wings- In my opinion, Bottoms Up has the best chicken wings in the city. Someone could feel free to show me otherwise. The Bad: Prices- The price for a slice of pizza is over $7. Granted the slices are large, a Large Pizza from Bottoms Up is over $20. If you are financially challenged, you might find Pizza Huts 2 Large any way you want for $20 more economical than one Large from Bottoms Up. Delivery- If you are ordering delivery, expect to wait no shorter than 45 minutes regardless how close you are to the restaurant. It might behoove you to eat in at the restaurant should you find parking on the ever so congested streets of Shockoe Bottom area. Overall, its a new tasting pizza, and wings are delicious, but the overpriced pizza makes this spot a place to visit only on special occasions. THREE STARS.

Since moving to Richmond 23 years ago we have been big fans of Bottom Up Pizza - bringing friends and family from all over the country and world to have a fun and tasty experience. However, we will not go again. Hoping to give a Frenchman visiting the USA a truly "Richmond experience" this past July 2013 we decided to top off attendance at the St. Johns Episcopal Church "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" performance with a late lunch at Bottoms Up Pizza. Three grandsons also accompanied us. Poor choice!! When we ordered the pizza the waiter did not guide us to clarify crust choice which resulted in a very doughy, spongy pizza although thin crust was an option. After a 30 minute wait the waiter came to us apologizing that he dropped our pizza and stating that they were starting over again. Not one iota of compensation was offered, not even a free beer. Refill offers on ice tea and water were non-existent. I will say that the house dressing for my side salad was excellent. Otherwise, Belmont Pizza here we come" for the Richmond experience!!

Overall, I wasnt impressed. Clearly they are doing something right because they have been around for decades. The service was lackluster at best. The pizza, which presumably is the main attraction was definitely good. The supreme salad was a mixed bag. It was presented well but the vegetables lacked flavor. That was certainly not their fault. Oddly, the mozzarella it was topped with was warmed. Not sure if that was intentional or not. This is a restaurant in the South, so they really should be able to make an acceptable iced tea. This definitely was not the case. My guess is that the main function is as part of the bar scene. Bottoms Up likely does that well, but I cant attest to that. Im too old and we didnt go at night. Im glad I finally went after many years of living in the Richmond area. Its just not my kind of place and there was nothing that stood out enough for me to venture back. Give it a try. The atmosphere may be enough for you, but I prefer quality service and quality foods.
