Drinks: AWESOME Food: AWESOME Staff: AWESOME Price: meh The PX is a wonderful speak easy in Alexandria (and one of the first of the new speak easy movements), complete with period decor, amazing food options, and FANTASTIC drinks. When you walk up to the non descript blue lamp you might find yourself wondering if you have come to the right place, step in and the waitress will walk you to your room (ps reserve -- its in your best interest otherwise you may be waiting by that lamp for a while). You immediately find yourself transported back into the 1920s. Light jazz music playing in the background, well dressed ladies taking your orders, beautiful period style decor. You immediately know you are in for an experience. Once you sit down dont let the cocktail list intimidate you, you are there to experience everything, so try something new and exciting -- I promise there was not ONE cocktail that I had that I didnt say "holy cr*p this is amazing." If you need a recommendation the waitress was well versed and knew the drinks and could help point you in the right direction! Before getting ahead of ourselves, I do believe its worth a mention that the drinks arent inexpensive, But it will force you to enjoy your drinks rather than gulp them down with merica fervor. As for the food...It was AMAZING. I have never had hor dourves that literally made my mouth water for more. My friends and I enjoyed a lot of their food options and not one was average -- everything was fantastic Finally, although there is no dress code, the place does recommend that you dress nicely and help keep the atmosphere classy -- think of the PX as an event more than a bar.

Fabulous speakeasy/bar! Always a great experience here, drink-wise, service-wise, and atmosphere-wise. Im a big fan of the Restaurant Eve Group, which PX is apart of. Todd Thrasher is the sommelier at Restaurant Eve and the mastermind behind the cocktails at PX. All drinks at PX are handcrafted. All of Todds bitters are housemade and juices are hand squeezed. He makes cocktails and cocktail-making an art. He experiments and makes different drinks depending on the season. A really amazing, experienced, and artistic sommelier. Theres no sign on the door, so you could walk past PX without knowing its there. There is a blue light outside the door when its open and you have to dress to impress if you want to go in. No flip-flops, shorts, tank tops, tees, or hats. Guys, that means put on a button-down shirt and slide on a jacket and nice shoes. Ladies, dress up in dresses, skirts, high heels, nice flats, pearls, etc. Make it a night out on the town! But remember, this isnt some club youre trying to get into, so dress classy. The decor and atmosphere resembles that of a classy social lounge in the 1920s. Drink recommendations? You can never go wrong with a gin and tonic here. I also really enjoyed their "Dreaming of the Green Can" drink, which has roasted pineapple, hibiscus, rum, and egg whites (I only trust Todd Thrasher/Restaurant Eve group to make egg white cocktails). If you want to go on a Friday or Saturday evening, I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. It gets crowded on the weekends. Remember, find the blue light!

If anyones been to The Violet Hour in Chicago, youll understand why I knocked a star off. This place has great drinks, boozy with great flavor and complexity, well worth the price. Service was great, our waitress checked on us enough to make sure we always had a drink in hand, but not too much. The atmosphere was comfortable and moderately intimate, however it felt as though someone had walked into The Violet Hour and said, "I could do this," and then didnt commit 100%. It would be nice to have distinctly separate seating areas, so you dont feel like youre in the middle of another groups conversation across from you. And the seating felt like they just kept old couches from college, rather than having something more modern or unique to up the speak-easy vibe. With that said, although I miss our go-to speak-easy in Chicago, this was an enjoyable night out and unique enough for Virginia where unique cocktail bars are hard to find!

This place has a reputation as one of the best bars in the area. I am sorry to say that it was a very long way from that when I visited. The place was under staffed while the bartenders craft was far below comparable cocktail bars. One of my biggest criticisms is for the ice. My wife and I had two very different drinks. She had a tropical cocktail that should have had crushed ice while I had a simple whiskey highball that should have used a larger slower melting type of ice. Instead the bartender used Ice from a standard ice machine that produced cubes on the small side that were not ideal for either drink. This is a big issue for me because this is a structural problem, not an off night for the staff. Yes, these are nit picky concerns, but this place styles its self as a top notch bar and it simply isnt.

Visited this place with two friends on July 6, 2011. The cod fish was good. The chips tasted like they had been sitting for some time prior to being served. Beer and water served in plastic cups. Very limited number of seats that were very uncomfortable with no cushions. Child friendly which meant the place had way too many toddlers that arrived by very large oversized strollers with limited space for them. All rules of courteous dining appeared to have been abandoned. One woman parked her stroller on a table (any sanitation rules?) while she waited to place her order and while her child ran over the floor screaming at the other children as tho they were all sill on the playground. Overpriced and very uncomfortable.

Its cozy secluded place for special drinks and few snacks. Kumi is the best - her knowledge about drinks is deep and she really understands different tastes and we did not make mistake to trust her choices. Also, I run out of time to get something special done for birthday girl. I simply asked from Kumi could she arrange something. She said she will make it happen and she did! She got little cake with candle! And they actually dont serve sweets in this bar! We will certainly be back. Her service is excellent. And drinks were amazing!

I came here a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Our experience started with the woman who greeted us at the door. Not only was she funny, but she explained to us about how she fell in love with cocktails. You come here for the experience and the unique presentation of drinks. I had a Pisco Sour, which was unbelievable. My friend ordered a drink that contained Lillet, which was also wonderful.

This place is so cozy and the drinks are amazing. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it. The atmosphere is nearly perfection, from the candle lit stairway to the relaxing back room. I love how quiet it is, loud bars are so not my scene. If youre looking for a intimate, speakeasy style place with high quality booze, this is it. If you want to party and have cheap drinks, I suggest looking elsewhere.

This is THE Place to have a cocktail!! Ordered a Wet Money that was not overly sweet but paired with our other drink Love in the Middle of a Fire Fight which was absolutely outstanding. Make sure you make reservations since seating is limited. Do not miss out on this hidden gem that must be visited many times to enjoy all their creations.
