My favorite person at a local wine/liquor store in MN had me try some High West Distillery spirits, so when we realized our road trip to CA would take us right past there we really had to go. We went for a full experience, scheduling a tour and a 4:30 dinner reservation. Our visit was during the summer off season and it wasnt terribly busy when we arrived. We scheduled a 3:00 distillery tour, but arrived early so we had a chance to sit in the bar and enjoy a couple drinks before we started. We were encouraged to take a beverage along on the tour as well, and after trying a couple already we were happy to take something else along. Our bartender was fantastic! He was funny, sociable, knowledgable, and encouraged us to troll our tour guide a bit. The tour was a lot of fun, educational, and the tasting at the end was a great way to try everything! The tour itself is free but there is a charge for the tasting, and I will say the cost to try everything was extremely reasonable. Something like $14 for four spirits of our choosing and then $3 for additional half ounce pours of others. The 21 year they had was more ($8 1/2 oz), but so incredibly worth it! Our tour guide had an answer for every question and was fun to sit and talk with during the tasting. We had a pretty small group for the 3:00 tour, with only another couple and their baby. We wandered around the area for about 30 minutes after the tour while waiting for our 4:30 reservation. We ended up back closer to 4:45 but that wasnt an issue and we had our choice of any patio table we wanted. With the beautiful weather they were having, we picked a spot that would have the most sun as the evening wore on. We started off with the Sourdough Pretzel and added a side of the Whiskey Beer Cheese for a small upcharge. At the suggestion of both the bartender and our waiter when we asked which was better between the Trout and Elk dishes, we decided on Elk. We split the Idaho Elk with Chanterelles and a side of the Asparagus with Morels. The elk was cooked perfectly, was flavorful, and very tender. I honestly couldnt imagine trying to eat a full portion of that dish by myself so I was very happy we split it and saved room for dessert. For dessert we started off with the Butterscotch Budino with Sea Salt shot, and it was phenomenal! We sipped our beverages, enjoyed the sunshine, socialized with the table next to us, and then went for the Chocolate and Whiskey pairing dessert. The chocolates were some of the best Ive had in a very long time and were expertly paired with the whiskey selections. We were there for a total of close to 6 hours between the pre-tour drinks, tour, and then dinner with dessert so we had a chance to try every spirit and nearly every crafted drink from their drink menu. Out of the Dead Mans Boot, Cochise, Spaghetti Western, Tipperary 703, and the High West Lemonade the last three were probably my favorites. Be careful with the High West Lemonades because those go down very smoothly and easily. As far as the whiskeys go our favorites were the OMG Rye Whiskey, Son of Bourye, Renzevous Rye, and the Rocky Mountain 21 year. When we went to the gift shop we mentioned that we were looking for the 21 year to buy for my boyfriends co-worker and the guy thought they were sold out of it. Being as friendly and helpful as everybody else was, he went and double checked storage and came back with a case. We ended up with a 21 year for the co-worker and one for ourselves, a bottle of their oat vodka, and a bottle of their new Boulevardier. Couldnt leave without a couple of coasters and a set of 2 of their hand blown glasses as well since we wont be able to go back for a while. Were hoping to go back in December for the Repeal Day Celebration they have every year. Not thrilled about the prospect of going back to Park City during the heavier part of tourist season, but it will be well worth it to go back to High West!

The food Ive had at High West is the best Ive found since moving to Utah. The servers, bartenders and tour guides are incredibly nice and charismatic and the whiskey is by far my favorite. However the encounters Ive had with the hostesses are consistently bad enough to ruin the rest of the experience. Ive been treated rudely on every occasion in every possible way. I was told my party of 8 could not be seated even if we split to two tables but the party of 6 who walked in behind us was seated immediately. This Monday, I called about sitting on the patio with a friend and our two dogs. I was told the restaurant was closed for lunch due to a staff training but assured that every day there after the patio would be open and dogs were permitted. Today, I drove from SLC to sit on the patio with my dog and was told the patio was closed for weather related reasons, but that I could sit outside to have a drink. I asked about getting food to go and the hostess said that was not allowed but I could get an appetizer instead. So I could not have a salad outside but I could have a drink and an appetizer outside. I asked to speak with a manager to let them know what Id experienced. The hostess told me "heres our manager" but as the woman walked up she told me "our manager is busy, but Ill give them the message." Ive worked as a hostess and really dont understand this behavior. Its very sad that a place with a great story, great food and drinks and great staff is ruined my a few inconsiderate and dishonest employees that should be the welcoming face of the saloon.

This was the best restaurant we visited while in Park City. If the service were more personal and they took reservations, Id give it 5 stars. But as it is they serve unique food with style and have the most spectacular rye whiskey Ive ever had. We started with a pretzel and beer cheese. Fantastic - we took the leftover cheese home and snacked later. Next Shishito peppers two ways - tempura fried and roasted. Fantastic - Id never had tempura friend Shishitos before. For entrees chicken schnitzel, pan fried trout, and mac & cheese (a side, but rich enough for an entree). We also had a side of roasted cauliflower gratin. Everything fantastic - the schnitzel was moist and delicious, the trout was perfectly cooked (would have preferred the Remoulade sauce on the side - my miss), and the mac & cheese was rich, creamy, and a bit spicy. Well, the cauliflower could have been better - it didnt have a roasted flavor and was not quite cooked as Id expect in a gratin. The Rendezvous Rye is exceptional straight up or on the rocks. Its worth a visit all by itself. We finished the evening with house-made smores. Id probably try something else next time - I prefer plain old smores. But they werent bad - I passed on Butterscotch Budino though and have some regrets.

We visited on a Thursday evening - it was packed!! But for some reason we were extremely lucky to be seated in the "Cozy Room" - where the cruvinet system is. At least 40 -/+ wines are set up on their cruvinet system and an awesome variety as well! Our waitress, Kambrin, was simply amazing! She was extremely personable and knew her stuff (wine, whiskey & the menu)! A glass of Campfire, a glass of Road 31 Pinot Noir. I loved that Kambrin knew the story of Road 31 Winery. We ordered appetizers - the deviled eggs and the pretzel. Deviled Eggs were fantastic. I wish the pretzel was slightly larger or maybe served two of the smaller ones. The garnishments that accompanied the pretzel were delicious but we had plenty left over so we saved it - even though we really didnt finish it. Both of our main entrees were incredible. Bison burger & the Lamb Stew with a side of brussel sprouts. The brussels were cooked perfectly! We opted for no dessert but I am sure it would have been fabulous!! They didnt rush us - even though they were busy. Which I really appreciated. If I could give them 10 Stars I would! If ever in the Park City area - this is a must visit!
