I will start by saying the food is average here, I have had better and I have had worse. I have been to thousands of restaurants and I have never, ever had as bad an experience as I had at this particular restaurant. I have never, never, ever been to any business in which the owner encouraged me to go to their competition for future meals due to complaints about service. The complaints were about their outrageous prices and exceptionally slow and inattentive service. Of you order olives and fetta on your gyro here be prepared to get about 6 olives for almost $3 dollars and for probably less than an ounce of fetta around 2 bucks. I could understand this practice if their less than average sized meat cone gyro was only a couple of dollars but at almost $7 bucks its outrageous. Oh you want fries or rice with that 7 dollar pita that will also be an additional 2 dollars and change. Also when you order the completely average tzatziki sauce as an appetizer it comes with 6 small wedges of pita for over $5 dollars, if you ask for more pita unlike almost every other Greek restaurant Ive been to they charge you almost $2 for the generous portion of... 6 more small slices of pita. And when you ask the owner if theyre serious that theyre actually going to charge you for additional pita they come back with "its home made tzatziki thats why its expensive" . Please spare me the self righteous nonsense, its not rocket science to put some diced cucumber and garlic and spices into thin yogurt. The athenian salad was by far and away the most ridiculously overpriced thing on the menu, $7 for a flat plate with a flat salad. We also had a 20 dollar Groupon which they wonderfully only applied $18.48 of to our check. Diners beware, the two pictures of food Ive included in this review would cost you over $20 dollars, and thats not a comically oversized fork in the photos either. And by the way its BYOB... But beer prepared to pay $3 for the luxury of consuming the alcohol you had to go into the store to buy and bring with you... This is the first restaurant I have ever been to that charges you to bring your own alcohol.

This place is a joke. They charge $7 for a flat plate of lettuce, maybe a quarter of a tomato, about 5 olives, a dash of feta and a slice of cucumber. There was hardly any dressing but I was afraid to ask for more in case it cost extra. I love Greek salad and we didnt even finish at least $3.50 worth of this lousy salad. My husband asked for feta and olives on his gyro, which cost an additional $1.47 for feta and $2.26 for olives. We had a Groupon for $20, and they actually only took off $18.48. Want a to-go cup for the $2.25 drink you already paid for? Thats an additional $0.75. They insist the tzatziki sauce is homemade and worth the $5.50 plus an additional $1.35 for extra pita that you will need because they dont give you enough, but it tastes store bought. Ive had MUCH better tzatziki at almost every other Greek place Ive been. This place is overpriced with mediocre food, and even worse customer service. We were all out of water more than once. We had to flag down for more water. Dont waste your time coming here. Unfortunately I cant add pictures of the itty bitty salad and the overinflated receipt. They will literally nickle and dime you over every single thing possible and then take an additional $1.52 out of your coupon to pocket themselves. Never, ever again.

Since it came on Sunday this year, I was looking for a brunch to take my Sweetheart to on Valentines Day . Good brunches are hard to find in Bakersfield, and are mostly only available on holidays, but I found out that recently the Belvedere, in the Padre hotel has added a weekly Sunday brunch. What a brunch it is too! It made me go Wow, when I got to the salad/seafood table and not only was there shrimp, but it was peeled, and there were whole cooked lobsters for the taking! There was a variety of salamis and cheeses, and a couple of good looking salads. There were many hot selections, an omelet station, and PRIME RIB! There were hot and cold deserts, a variety of breads, and fruit. Not only, was this a great brunch, it is only $25 a person. Now that doesnt include campaign, but we had bottomless glasses of the bubbly, and the charge brought the total up to what you would expect for a brunch of this caliber. If you love a good Sunday brunch, run dont walk to the Padre hotel Sunday morning.

Great little Greek Cafe in town! Love how clean and how culturally decorated the place is. Even the staff is nice and the boss seems like a good man. So as a night worker, I usually phone in an order to-go before going into work and they always get it right and comes out in great timing. Plus it stays fresh when its time to eat on lunch break (well, normally 7:30pm is dinner time.) Last night I had their pasticchio specialty plate and hummus and it was soo so good I ate every last bit! This place is so wonderfully good, I sure want to visit Greece someday!

Hummus is good. Rice is good. Pita is good. Together theyre even better. Would give the food a solid 8 - would be a lot better with sriracha sauce due to the lack of flavor. Order over the phone - rep was not enthused at all. When I picked up, it took about 10 mins from the time I parked to the time I drove away. The guy just about snatched the card out of my hand and didnt smile once. Not sure how this place has over 4 stars - maybe because of the meat? Not sure - Im vegan.

Athenoes is a wonderful experience. Great staff. The food was just as good if not better than I have had in Crete, Spain and Israel. It is absolutely excellent!! It is one of the few places I have dined where the staff just does not pass by your table and remark "is everything ok" and keeps on going. Here they actually come to the table and ask, then wait for a response. If you could give more than 5 stars I would.

Food was good but service was inattentive and lacking; sever did not seem sure of the menu nor was that interested; never asked if we were ok or asked if we wanted any desert. Also had to flag down someone for water as others have mentioned. Upon checkout at the front, again no one asked if we enjoyed the meal; hate feeling like I was just another butt in the seat. They had one chance and blew it. I will not be back.

This is Mediterranean pizza and food, not Italian. That being said it is a super fun twist on pizza. We had a pie with eggplant, gorgonzola cheese, red onion, garlic. We had another with yellow curry and jalapenos. Both of them were so good. We split a large Greek salad and had the perfect little meal. I would highly recommend this place to spice up your same old pizza selections.
