When youre writing a review with tears down your face, you know its BAD. Worst customer service and most heartless business Ive ever dealt with. Ordered a cake online on a Monday for Fathers day. Called 10 minutes after placing the order and spoke to the owner, Leo, as I wanted to change the frosting type. He takes down my info, gets my credit card info (which he says will be charged immediately). Next day, Sarah calls me to discuss my online order. Im confused. Tell her I already discussed it with Leo and gave him my credit card info. She says she has no information. Im at work and cant spend another 20 minutes going over the details, so I ask her to call me back once she speaks with the owner. She calls me back an hour later to tell me "everythings fine. I have the info. Please dont worry at all. Our owner took the information home with him." Good to know my credit card info is off at someones house... Im frustrated at this point but hoping the cake tastes good as its for Fathers Day and my dads fave - pineapple coconut. Friday arrives - my pickup is for Saturday. I call to confirm my pick up time since Ill be leaving early on Saturday from San Antonio JUST to pick up this cake prior to closing. They say sure come before closing. Get to Rustika. I tell a woman named Jennifer Im here for my pickup. Confusion ensues. THERE IS NO CAKE. "I think we made a banana rum cake instead." I show her my email confirmation that clearly says "pineapple coconut" as I cant even fathom how something like that happens. She offers me other fruit cake options, speaking to me with such condescension that after she leaves my side to go call the owner, Im in tears. I ask to speak to the owner over the phone multiple times and he refuses to speak to me. Most important thing to note - NOT ONCE, does anyone apologize. A simple "Im sorry" goes a long way and clearly no one at this bakery has the common courtesy or human decency to apologize when they make a mistake. I pick a lemon raspberry cake substitute, and at this point Im told $42 and asked for my credit card. What? Ive already given my credit card info and was told multiple times my card was charged at the time of order. And now youre asking to charge me again with a 3 buck discount? Thats your way of rectifying the situation???? Jennifer then tells me the owner told her if she just gave me the cake without charging me, she would be fired. Its good to know that rectifying a mistake at Rustika means offering a 3 dollar discount, not apologizing EVEN ONCE, refusing to speak to the customer, losing their credit card information, and allowing them to leave cake less and in tears on Fathers Day weekend. I will NEVER give this place my business. Stick with Dessert Gallery or Whole Foods. These people are heartless. Jennifer then on my way out goes "have a great day!" as I walk out in tears. Wow. Also she tells me the owner will speak to me.... tomorrow at 8 AM. That makes sense - speak to me a day after I need the cake I ordered. Not the day of when you can actually apologize and right a situation. Trust me and dont deal with these people. For them to not even apologize once for a mistake they clearly made is shocking to me. My family and I order far more expensive cakes from multiple places around the city, and this was going to be the first time I tried Rustika. We were all so excited to try the cake and celebrate Fathers Day and they essentially ruined a family dinner we were all looking forward to. Heartless, unprofessional, rude, discourteous - none of the words you want to give business to. Stay away from this place.

My wedding cake was damaged during delivery, so Rustika Bakery delivered a styrofoam replica of my cake, with 3 cakes to serve my guest of which were flavors they happpend to have on hand that day. I had not tasted any of the flavors prior to my wedding, so I was completely surprised to see what my guests were being served. No one ever called my wedding planner to communicate what had went wrong, she had to contact the bakery. When my styrofoam cake arrived, late & well after my reception had begun, my wedding planner and my venue owner both complained of the delivery driver, Marcos impolite demenor and unprofessionalism in stating "this is what I have, take it or leave it" and "youre not going to get your money back, Im the owners son". I was apalled at the customer service, so after my wedding I sent Rustika Bakery and email expressing my dissatisfaction since I had to leave immediatly for my honeymoon, and of course no response. When I returned I went to the bakery, because I couldnt understand why they would not want to make this right, I was not delivered what I paid for! I met with Jr and after explaining my situation his response was "I dont know what to tell you" he even went on to suggest I should have disclosed the road conditions. Unbelievable!!! A delivery driver that delivers cakes on a regualr basis dosent know how to sercure a cake?!?! At that point I demanded to speak to managment and was told to come back the following day. Finally, the next day I spoke with Leo whom was very nice and apologetic. He made a me a delicious straberries and cream cake & gave me a $100 gift card. I dont feel like I was compensated in the lease. I wasnt happy, and will never order a cake from Rustika Cafe again, but I just wanted them to accept responsiblilty for their actions. After spending over $1,000 on a cake for your wedding, its no longer about the money, its the principal....

I found Rustika Cafe via an employer who used to order monthly cakes from them (they deliver too!). Their Strawberries and Cream cake is, by far, the best I have ever had (well, except for Grandmas). Our family celebrates every life event (our wedding, baby showers, birthdays) with cakes from Rustika. Well worth the trip from League City and puts the Friendswood "Cake Lady" to shame! While I have never enjoyed lunch there, their cakes have never, ever disappointment. Oh, and awesome cheesecakes too! They worked closely with us on our wedding cake, integrating fresh flowers that matched our bouquets. Not only that, but they were well within our budget too. They didnt try to oversell us on what we needed, which was greatly appreciated, contrary to some of the "wedding factory" bakeries. I would have loved to give them 5 stars, but in the service area they fall just a little short. While they are exceedingly nice and want to be accommodating, be careful if you order for delivery. On several occasions they have been more than an hour late, sometimes due to traffic or misunderstanding, and didnt always communicate their tardiness. They were on time for my wedding, and that was the most important event yet. That being said, their cakes have never failed to be ready for pick-up. PS: I dont believe Rustika to be a Mexican bakery... they are Ukrainian/Turkish (somewhere in that region) by their name.

On June 10th 2010, I visited Rustika Cafe to order my 40th birthday cake. Description was to be lavender fondant over the cake, with deep purple stripes and black stripes like a present and in between the purple stripes pink stripes thinner. A number 40 in the middle and lil dots and what not for decoration. Italian Cream Cake. Costing me $175.00. Upon picking up the cake on and for July 10th 2010. Not even two miles down the road and the 4 of the 40 dondant broke. After cutting into the cake, the fondant was extremely difficult to cut through and into. The cake was very dry, the bottom of both 12in round cakes were burnt, the fondant was extremely thick, and to thick to even eat, the buttercream on the cake had almost NO flavor and it was not decorated to specification. On June 12th my boyfriend took in what was left over, HALF of the cake. he explained in full detail of everything that was wrong, and proceeded to state, this will be a grave review over all the review websites. The co-ownder and wife of the owner, just looked at my boyfriend and stared. Did NOT even offer a credit, a refund, half credit for the half NOT eatten or even an appology. I am running into a lot of businesses that DO NOT practice what once used to be Standard Business Practices. This place may be good for the cafe, I would not know, but as for as professionally done cakes, THIS is a DONT GO TO Place.
