A bit disappointed this time. Not sure if Ill be back. I used to come here regularly if I didnt have time to cook and pick up a Suya platter and some moi moi for my boyfriend- these were his favorites. The first time I ordered, I was specifically told to order the platter (not the regular Suya) since it came with the jollof rice, vegetable and plantain. It was $12.00 Thereafter, Ive ordered many times- usually the same thing no problem. Not long ago, though, I noticed I ordered the Suya platter again and specifically a second jollof rice and vegetable plate (as displayed on the menu) and they did not include the jollof, rice, vegetable, and plantain in the suya platter. The last time I ordered Suya platter, extra side of vegetable and moi moi, as always, I got jollof rice, plantain, and vegetable with my Suya platter. Tonight I ordered the same as usual, I got a cup of the Suya, my side vegetable and moi moi, and was told the cup of beef suya WAS the suya platter. And that I had not asked for the rice. I told them I never had to ask for it specifically before, maybe indicate that I would like the jollof as opposed to the white rice, but I definitely always got a small portion of vegetable and plantain along with it. I was ok because they offered to give me the rice if I could come back. I said fine. I wasnt far, but had to redress my son to do so. I came back and was told to be given a small box of white rice. I didnt protest, I just felt like my relationship with Café Abuja was coming to an end. I felt I certainly couldve boiled myself a small bowl of white rice and really did not want to have drawn my child out again to retrieve a small box of white rice, when we are usually given a true platter. I just feel there is not consistency when I order the same dishes. Its one thing to say youre all out, or something, but to just deny that something doesnt come with a dish I consistently order, and at the same price makes customers feel like their crazy and they dont know what to expect. Its just not worth it.

Lets start from the place itself. Very clean and tastefully decorated!! Waiting staff is very attentive, welcoming, polite and overall great. Cant fault them in anything. Kitchen staff needs to co-ordinated the orders, on a party of 4 or more people in the same table a complete order needs to come out at the same time (instead of people on the table waiting for the others to get their food before start eating together). Now the most important thing the food, taste really good right flavour, not to greasy, not dry. Why 4 stars? Im a foodie with a taste for Nigerian food and the prices for the small portion of food given are exaggerated. For example if you order jellof rice with beef you will receive only two pieces of beef (cost of this 2 pieces of beef only with no rice is $7 +) which in my case was very hard (Id like to think that this is not the norm) to chew. Which makes the total of the mellow and beef $15 bear in mind that the portion is not big. My top paid price for a much bigger portion in a similar restaurant in Dallas was $12 but with also more (and soft) meat. Again another 4 stars because we quickly spotted how the table next to us portion was bigger (they said they were habitual patrons ). I wanted to highlight this points to the owners but unfortunately the owners were "busy" talking to the usual patrons and completely avoided our table (notice that they only had 3 tables during our stay).

I can say without any reservations that Cafe Abuja has elevated my expectations of what a Nigerian restaurant can provide. Decor - is fairly modern and not gaudy and yet adorned adequately enough to make you feel like youre not about to break the bank on appetizers Customer service - the waiters and order takers are all in clean and very modestly designed uniforms. I bring this up only because I visited at least two other Nigerian restaurants in Houston where the service staff appeared to have worn whatever they had on when they were running errands and clearing their lawns with cutlasses prior to their shift at the restaurant that evening. Food and prices - the food here is well apportion for the price you pay. I ordered the egusi and pounded yam. I also ordered a scotch egg as an appetizer. The restaurant smells great and looks very clean. The owners of this restaurant should be very proud of this establishment. While some of my comments appear to be very common and reasonably expected and by some to be the standard of even operating a restaurant. There are many Nigerian restaurant owners that could do themselves a service by patronizing this location and re-evaluating their operations.

Been here a few times so I do like the food, however their service was poor. Usually I get good service when the owner is around but today I went there shortly after they opened I was the only customer so the lady gave menu and walked off two men came in and sat down and she gave them a menu, also a women came in for a pick up order. Now it have been about 5 minutes now so the two men were agitated so she goes to take their order, I still wasnt to upset I figured shed come take my order after she took theirs but no now its like 10 minutes still no acknowledgement, so I politely grab my keys and walked out now Im thinking of never spending my money there again and I usually tip so its their lost they lost out on money. I dont think people understand the meaning of customer service when they are operating a business, I was recommending this place to people because I drive people around daily but I didnt appreciate how I was treated so I will not tell anyone else.

Cafe Abuja is a secure ,clean and calm restaurant to have a decent Nigerian meal . Customer service perfect but on two occasions I have been compelled to eat chicken has part of assorted meat, the first time I replaced it with fish at my own expense , but yesterday was a No No for me I felt so bad that I couldnt get an explanation for this exploitation.i dont eat chicken for any reason that even made it worse . I just paid the bill and left disappointed..This shouldnt happen in a contemporary restaurant like this ... I will still recommend it to anyone though . Just my 2 cents

Omg lemme just say just walking in, i have never seen a Nigerian restaurant with this kind of classy atmosphere. Clean, professional looking, and you know that smell that usually hits you in the face when you enter Nigerian restaurant or store, nope, not here. Did i say clean already? Yes even the air was clean. The bathroom sef was clean lol. And the staff had great customer service, something that is usually lacking in Nigerian restaurants, unfortunately. Now to the food, yum, yumer, yummiest is all i can say. Great job! Very impressed first customer.

The snails were great but the rest of the food is mediocre at best, had a waiter with the memory of a goldfish, she couldnt remember anything, the wait staff werent well trained. The attitude of the last guy that helped us made up for the extensive wait. He was cordial, professional, and remembered what was asked for unlike the two ladies before him. This is my second visit here since they first opened and Im frankly not impressed. I had high hopes for this place because its closer to home but I guess its not meant to be.
