My most recent visit to Izumi Sushi was Friday night January 27,2012. We stopped in fairly late for diners in Westlake, not getting to the restaurant until about 9:30. Even though the restaurant was bare of diners and they told us they had been swamped earlier, we were warmly greeted and seated at our usual table. I was with my husband and my always-hungry son, so we started with three miso soups to try and satiate our hungry child. He only got one of the soups. The soup was piping hot and the broth was rich with flavor. I cannot speak for the other diners, but although my broth was flavorful, there was not one piece of tofu, seaweed, or mushroom in it. This was a slight disappointment. We know what we like here, so we quickly placed our order: Two spicy scallop hand rolls One Hawaiian roll-spicy One order hamachi sashimi Two orders salmon nigiri One order tuna nigiri One firecracker roll Two golden cali rolls We anxiously await our food. The first thing to come out is the sashimi and nigiri. Both are spot on tonight. Sometimes the sashimi can be a bit too cold for my taste as Izumi but tonight all three things were perfect. We love the generous sized portions at Izumi. The wasabi is always spicy and the rice is always perfect. Next we had the Hawaiian roll. I must say it was actually better than usual. This is a very good roll. It is a traditional California roll with real crab and avocado. Topped with fresh tuna slices and more avocados. We order it spicy and it is usually served with house spicy mayo sauce when we order it that way. We got a treat this night as it also had house spicy sauce on it. When I complemented the flavor the manager told me they make it themselves. It really elevated the already scrumptious Hawaiian roll. Sure enough, the firecracker roll came before we finished our Hawaiian roll. This is my son’s favorite. It is a shrimp tempura roll with avocado and veggies. It is then topped with spicy tuna and tempura flakes and two kinds of sauces. It is another excellent roll. Again, it was the perfect combination of cool, hot and crunch. Another winning roll they serve at Izumi. Just in time came the golden cali rolls. A traditional California roll, dipped in tempura, deep fried, and served with a multitude of yummy sauces on top. I’m not sure, but this might be tied with the firecracker roll for my son’s favorite. I must admit it is very good. Finally, the two spicy scallop hand rolls are delivered. The server tells us that the manager (who we love!!!) has made them extra spicy for us. I do not eat these, but my husband and son start watering at the mouth in anticipation. We all look over at her and she smiles. I hear the server mention jalapenos…… My husband starts eating first and his head immediately becomes wet. Yes, the spice causes my husband to sweat. He loves it! He finishes his roll as our son eats his. Many glasses of water and beer are consumed. The thumbs up are given to the manager and she returns a lovely smile. Another great meal was served to us at Izumi. I must say their consistency and great service is something we look forward to weekly. Two thumbs up! We will be back soon.

I ordered the Heart Attack and the Alaskan roll and was pretty displeased with the order. The heart attack "roll" is merely two deep fried jalapenos, stuffed with fish and rice, topped with spicy mayo. For $13, I would like to have seen more bang for the buck. It was however taste-full. The Alaskan roll was even more upsetting. For starters, the salmon had a very fishy smell to it and the avocado that was used was brown, not even green! it was mushy and could tell it was way past ripe. The size of the roll was not something I expected for $12. It was smaller than most "house" rolls and was only 5 pieces. The roll itself was no bigger than a 1/2 dollar. I gave it three stars, because I was able to order online and it is on the drive home. I will probably order again, but I wouldnt take a date there or dine-in.

Nice little place in a strip mall in Westlake, but dont let that steer you away, its Westlake so its nice. Its very cozy inside and the staff is very friendly. They have a good sized menu with plenty of food for those who dont fancy sushi and plenty of sushi choices. Had a Caterpillar roll and a few pieces of yellow tail and salmon Nigiri. I wanted the fatty salmon, but they were out, next time. All of it tasted very fresh and put me in sushi heaven. I asked the waitress to suggest a good sake and now I have a favorite(Yuki No Bosha-Junmai Ginjo), very smooth and went really well with everything, including the green tea mochi, which was fantastic. Will definitely be going back here to try and work through the rest of the menu and their specialty rolls.

Im sure there are regional differences in sushi and not suggesting one area does it better than another, but I was eating sushi in SoCal for about 2 to 3 times a week for 25 years before moving to Austin. This is the best place Ive found in all the time Ive been here (9 years). The California roll was made correctly, tuna was great, salmon was perfect. The sweet shrimp was very good and very traditional. Only thing that was not perfect was the salmon-skin roll, which was OK, but not great. Tiny place and not much room at the bar.

First time at this place and we used a coupon and the service was bad. They ignored us and the place seemed to disorganized and not attentive to the tables. They seemed to be more concerned with satisfying take out orders, instead of taking care of their patrons in the restaurant. We saw 2 tables get up and leave because no came up to take their drink orders.

I love this place! First visited it as a date night with my wife and we fell in love with their sushi rolls. It has the family owned and operated feel to it as all the waitstaff are very nice and attentive. Their entrée items look to be great but we love the variety of sushi rolls they have that we never have branched out to try anything else!

店内は小洒落た感じがして、ぱっと見は良さげでしたが、お好み焼き頼むとまるでチヂミでした。韓国人が作るとこんな風になるんだろうな。刺し身や寿司もいまいちでした。

While hard to find, Izumi is a pleasant surprise. It is great to have a place on this side of town with great sushi. I had seen Izumi several times driving through the shopping center but never thought to stop as I am very picky about my sushi. I am glad I did. I will be going back a lot.

There seems to be a disconnect between servers and BOH. 30 minutes goes by for sushi. Sever tells me 5 more minutes. Sushi chef argues with him, that no one told them of an order.... dont come here for lunch or if you want to grab and go. Actual food not worth.

My coworkers and I go here regularly, at least once a week. Its very consistent, and very good. Their nigiri prices are a little high, but the quality is there. Portion sizes are what youd hope for, and the staff are all very nice and friendly.

Server added in an extra $30 tip to my transaction. I called management three times with no return call, ended up calling my bank to dispute the charge which is really unfortunate. Watch your charges if you go here!
