Like the title says. the food was good. Unfortunately the experience of good food was nullified by our waiter, who didnt know the first thing about service, and thats why the one star rating. Our waiter was a sweet kid. I doubt his lack of ability as a waiter was his fault. The manager/owner ought to take a course or two in restaurant management and then train his employees properly. Good intentions are no substitute for competence. We stopped in on Sunday. It wasnt busy. We got a seat right away. The waiter took 10 minutes to approach our table. He didnt ask for a drink order or an app order at first approach. I asked if there were any drink specials. He didnt know. He asked if I wanted a drink menu and never returned with it. Another person came to the table and I had to ask for it again, approximately 20 minutes after I had asked for it initially. The waiter finally came back and took our drink order. Again, he didnt ask if we were interested in an appetizer. We were. Oh well. So finally, after about 40 minutes we had our drinks. Bravo! Since we had waited so long for the drinks, we ordered our app and main courses at the same time. We ordered the truffled fries to split rather than the regular fries that were served with the sandwich; an up-sale BTW, something most restaurant owner/managers love. Did we get that? No. Half way through our meal, the waiter drops the check, without so much as asking if we would care for anything else. Stunned at the faux pas, I asked my son, "were we finished?" Of course, the answer was no. I would have liked some dessert and a coffee or another cocktail which would have added another ~ $20 to the check, most likely. Its not that the money was dear, I would have had no problem parting with cash but the waiter deprived the owner of a higher ticket and that is never a good thing for an owner. At that point I was pretty tired of the whole amateurish charade so we finished, paid, and left. The food was good, solidly executed. The bun, house made by an actual baker, was excellent. Bobbys Dairy Dip is better for a burger and fries frankly, and at half the cost, with better service, and 2/3 the investment of time. Ive noticed a trend in the last 20 or so years; a number of people who have no restaurant experience think its fun to play restaurant; like the Little Rascals, as in: "Hey kids! Lets put on a show!" but with real-life consequences like running out of food and inept service that offends your customers. I worked in the restaurant business for years, from greasy spoons to some of the most highly regarded places in the country, both front and back of the house. Its not brain surgery, but playing at restaurant because it seems cool isnt analogous to running a successful one. To the owner/manager: do yourself and your customers a favor and hire a front of the house manager who actually knows what they are doing.

I have wanted to check this place out for a while, so I stopped in today and I gotta say I was a little let down. My burger was good and love me some Bentons bacon on it, but it was served with NO lettuce OR Tomato. AND, if you are going to put the word burger in your name, you best be having some good ketchup. I had two kinds of theirs, the Jack Daniels Maple ketchup and the regular. I thought both were disgusting. A failed attempt at gourmet. I threw my fresh cut fries away because without the ketchup they were not that great. I also had the Krispy Kreme bread pudding. It was ok, but perhaps my expectation was too high, but something was missing. It just was not as good as I had hoped. Next time I will waste those calories elsewhere. I applaud them for supporting local farmers and having a gluten free bun on the menu (which I did not try), but I gotta say the next time I want a grass fed burger with fresh cut fries and good ketchup I will be ditching the wanna bees and be heading over the to hang with the cool kids at Gabbys. I would however go back and try trendy cocktail or two with friends when the weather is nice.

The 800 pound gorilla of Nashville burger joints is overrated, overpriced, and over-trafficked. Dont get me wrong, the food is decent. Not great, not perfect, but it gets the job done. There arent a lot of upscale burgers in Nashville - outside of the steakhouses, of course - and you really should try Burger Up if youre a burger junkie like me. But Id say its unlikely this place will ever become the go-to for buns and meat. Mostly I dislike the heavy traffic. Dinnertime is always busy. Its full of 12 South hipsters (a whole different breed from the East Nashvillians), and while thats not necessarily a bad thing it definitely gives Burger Up a specific vibe that not everyone will like. Im also not a fan of the prices here. If Im going to drop this kind of cash on a burger, Ill just as soon go to Capitol Grille or somewhere like that. And for the record, Fidos burger is every bit as good _and better_ than Burger Up, at roughly the same price.

Id think the people who gave the 1 star reviews had some kind of personal vendetta against the owner if I didnt know better. Especially the one with the comment about having your small child in a bar. Is that the angry ex? Anyhow....this is a great neighborhood place that will bring residents of all other city neighborhoods to 12 South. An affordable restaurant that offers local grass fed beef hamburgers...that are cooked exactly to order? House made ketchup sweetened with maple syrup. Cannot go wrong. Ive only heard good things word of mouth otherwise as well. This is a great place and word of mouth will beat out whatever the 1 star reviewers have had to say. Ha! Oh and try the beer battered mushrooms. EXCELLENT FOOD EXCELLENT AMBIENCE This is not a bar it is a restaurant where neighbors gather, and as long as there are no guns here I say ...keep the babies coming.

Tonight, I went to Burger Up for a meal to myself and decided to sit at the bar. Bartender took my order and was very kind. It had been a while and I hadnt seen my food yet. The bartender comes over embarrassed and tells me that he failed to put my order in. I was in no way displeased with the news because hey, things happen and people make mistakes. No big deal. But then, he tells me that my meal is free of charge. This place will forever have my business because of that. I still wouldve gladly paid for the food but they wanted to make their (small) mistake right. I really appreciated it so much and it speaks volumes of the business that they operate. The Black & Bleu burger is EXTREMELY good. Tasted even better since it was free. I highly recommend this place! I will be back.

First and the most important thing about this place is that the food is just average...... I can make better burgers at home using healthy ingredients. I was really disappointed at the price of the food here, Me and my wife got turkey burgers and sweet potato fries and i regret even ordering from this place. We paid 50 dollars for a meal that was worth 5 dollars each not even... the food was just average with soggy fries. If you want to see sweet potato fries at its worse then this is the place that kills the fries for you. The burger was ok and wasted ok for the price that was not ok. I will not be coming back here ever again and i will make sure friends and family dont either... They either need to lower the food prices in this place or higher better cooks. disgusting.
